What comforting treat to send upset DS at Uni?

Our pet has died and I imagine he’s pretty upset. What would you send (that’ll arrive quickly)?

I would phone rather than send something I think, but chocolate is always an easy thing to send and it goes through the letterbox!

theduchessofspork · 29/11/2023 21:30

I’d just check in on him via message and phone.

It seems slightly odd to send someone something because a pet (or a person for that matter) died?

also it sounds like you don’t actually know he’s upset, I’m sure he’s sad but he may well just be cracking on with life.

Chewbecca · 29/11/2023 21:31

I’ve already phoned and messaged. Just think it would cheer him up for something to arrive. Chocolate is always welcomed and will be my fall back option!

I would facetime / zoom him.

then I’d place a click and collect order for some nice goodies at a supermarket near him eg Tesco , Asda .

Getting things delivered to halls / shared student flats can be tricky

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 29/11/2023 21:32

I think it's a lovely gesture, but of home comfort. Favourite pudding?

Chewbecca · 29/11/2023 21:32

Wrong word used, he is really upset. I am checking in, just wanted to do something else that made him smile. It’s hard not being there to be able to comfort!

stayathomer · 29/11/2023 21:33

I don’t think you can beat food and magazines to take the mind off a little. Lovely idea op!

Chewbecca · 29/11/2023 21:35

Hmm, home made favourite cake would be a brilliant idea but the delay is offputting. I will check out the local supermarket option. Delivery to halls isn’t that tricky actually.

Order him a pizza delivery! Teenagers are always hungry! And a rare treat I would imagine for a uni student.

these brownies are delicious and the price includes next day delivery. Best brownie I’ve ever tasted

LondonQueen · 29/11/2023 21:36

A nice box of chocolates, you can usually get amazon to deliver them next day even to halls.

Pinkpinkplonk · 29/11/2023 21:36

In times of need a Wagamamas delivery goes down really well!

Hope you are doing ok as well.
Lovely idea re getting a meal or pudding/cake sent to him.
My dds loved getting things in the post (they haven’t been to uni but my mum used to send them parcels when she lived a long way away)

Don’t be daft

I said I’d just message or call. Which I would.

The OP’s OP had a typo - she said she imagined he might be upset, not that he was really upset.

Chewbecca · 29/11/2023 21:49

It wasn’t a typo as such. Regardless, I want to send him something, a surprise arriving in the post is guaranteed to put a smile on someone’s face.

Our dog died when DD was at uni. It was horrible having to tell her over the phone. It was also in the middle of Covid, which she had a couple of times while there, so a pretty rubbish time all round. We didn't send anything in particular, just made sure she had enough money to treat herself. I'm sure your son will appreciate whatever you send.

waltzingparrot · 29/11/2023 21:53

Mine would be cheered up by getting a Dominos pizza at this time of the evening. It's sent with love.

Thanks - order placed! Perfect. There was no space to add a message but I am confident he will guess who the sender is!

thanks all.

It’s normal to feel extremely sad when your pet or a loved one dies. Why would you feel happier eating? It’s got nothing to do with each other ffs. Just teach your grown up child to feel the normal grief. Next time it might be worse than a pet dying, and pizza won’t help then either.

Chewbecca · 29/11/2023 22:03

Harsh! Just trying to put a smile on his face and a surprise in the post (food or otherwise) will do that.

Ok eating solves grief. Very American.

It's hard when your child is far away and you can't give them a hug. Sometimes you just want to do something nice.
