What comforting treat to send upset DS at Uni?

Our pet has died and I imagine he’s pretty upset. What would you send (that’ll arrive quickly)?

I think it is a lovely idea, also does he have food delivered? Just Eat or Deliveroo voucher? Ds is also at uni and has asked for that as a Christmas present so he can treat himself.

Sorry your pet died, very sad indeed. Flowers It is totally shit when you are far away from them and can't just give them a hug.

Eating solves grief? - I agree with you, it does not.

But I didn’t say it did.

I hoped a surprise delivery would put a smile on his face. Make him feel thought of. Would you dispute that? Or think that is a bad thing?

Brownies in the post are amazing. If he's still sad next week, how about one of these letterbox Christmas trees?

My sister-in-law was thrilled to receive one from us when she got stuck self-idolating with COVID during December one year: You'll perhaps know best if your son would get into decorating one or not! :D

I used to send Ds a cake from Sponge. Then he'd invite people over to share it and have some distractions and/or emotional support. It got him through his break up of his first serious love.

Chewbecca · 29/11/2023 22:18

That’s a good point. I sent 8 big brownies so I can be sure there will be company 😂 I know he has a busy weekend ahead, otherwise I might’ve considered a visit.

I used to dread our old boy going over the rainbow bridge when dd was at uni. Although he waited I used to send her lots of little things in the post. A nice card, a bookmark, a little pen, her birth stone, chocolate, etc. Just little cheer ups for a sensitive soul at uni. Will he be home soon?

I am sorry for your lossFlowers

Lovely ideas about comforting foods. Would it be nice to send him a photo of the pet in a frame, or get something made up with a funny photo of the pet from bonus print or snapfish etc. or would that break him?

Sympathies to you all, so horrid losing one of the furry family members (presuming pet wasn't a snake or something).

Don't listen to the negative strange people on here. I've had them on my post not long ago. This app is riddled with them.
Sorry to hear about your family pet and I hope you manage to send your son something and that it puts a smile on his face which it would anyone's!
❤️

I think that is a lovely idea, Op.

Order him a pizza delivery! Teenagers are always hungry! And a rare treat I would imagine for a uni student.

Have you not met a Uni student?

(Or perhaps ours is unusual. Deliveroo is pretty much family to them.)

Condolences on the loss of your pet, @Chewbecca - I’m glad you’ve found a suitable thing to send. I’ve done the same when a young relative is upset and far from home.

Thistooshallpass. · 29/11/2023 22:30

A nice thing to do and what I would do for my son at uni - he will be devastated when our aged pet passes .
Not sure why people find trying to comfort and bring some joy to your child when they are upset such a strange concept !

Iheartmysmart · 29/11/2023 22:30

I had to have my old dog put to sleep a few weeks ago. DS was nine when we got him and they were best buddies. Calling him with the news was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. I could hear DS sobbing but I couldn’t comfort him as he’s miles away at Uni.

DS plays in a band so I got him some plectrums made with his favourite picture of the dog on and sent him a voucher for his favourite pizza restaurant.

Tilllly · 29/11/2023 22:36

And post him a couple of sachets of mug cakes

crumblingschools · 29/11/2023 22:38

Can’t believe some of the posters on here. Sorry for your loss @Chewbecca 💐

We have an elderly dog who is best buddies with DS. Dreading the day we have to say goodbye to him, and the worst thought is having to tell DS when he is at uni
