My PT won't let me cancel!

I've had a PT online for 8wks. I've done absolutely everything asked of me and have lost 2lbs. I'm absolutely knackered and stressed and overwhelmed with tracking, steps, calorie counting and so little progress.

I want to stop. Ive made an initial payment for first 3mths but apparently I signed a contract for 24wks so need to pay him for Jan, Feb and March.

He said I've signed contract so I HAVE to pay regardless of if I do the programme or not.

He said my progress is so slow because it just is and it will come off eventually!?

I'm not sure there's anything I can do is there? I'm so mad and upset. Feel like I'm getting robbed!

The obvious question, OP, is what does the contract say?

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 27/11/2023 14:34

Are you sticking to a program? PTs are more about strength and fitness than weight loss - are you finding the exercise helpful? What did you discuss about your goals when you started?
Thats a crazy long contract but if you signed it he could take you to small claims if you don't pay.

Iwantthistobemyyear · 27/11/2023 14:35

i haven't got any experience with PTs but i just want to say - be kind to yourself! 2lb weight loss is great! some people start off slow and then it all falls off at once, as your body adjusts to new routine and diet. Does sound like you need some kind words and support alongside the exercise though. Are there any weight loss support groups you could join to help you navigate the mental slog of it all?

Fatnangry · 27/11/2023 14:38

I'm sticking to the plan religiously. Doing absolutely everything everyday. Its miserable with so little reward.

Do your clothes feel looser? Can you see definition?

I reduced my body fat by 30% over 3 months and lost only 1kg.

Wakemeup17 · 27/11/2023 14:40

You could pay him and quit anyway. He's not going to show up at your door demanding to know why you are not showing up to the classes.

Dozycuntlaters · 27/11/2023 14:43

Its really difficult to say without knowing what your daily diet is. what sort of exercise are you doing? Are you doing this purely for weight loss? If so weight loss is 80% diet and only 20% exercise. Can you give us an example of a typical days diet and including every single thing you eat.

Dozycuntlaters · 27/11/2023 14:45

Oh and regarding him wanting payment for jan, feb and march - just tell him you're not happy with the results and you won't be paying for the next 3 months. He's not going to want potential clients knowing its not guaranteed to work and he's not going to go to the expense of taking you to court.

Fatnangry · 27/11/2023 14:45

Thanks. I'm not asking for weight loss advice.

I have paid for the PT to set me a diet plan and exercise and I have been doing this.
I cant see any difference in shape, the tape measure hasn't moved at all, my clothes are no different. My husband and best friend have said they can see zero difference in my progress photos. Neither can I.

PT is saying he can see a big difference therefore its working!?

Getting fit doesn’t always result in weight loss

tbh PT without nutrition isn’t going to get you the results you hoped for

the fitness PT side of things will improve your base fitness and tone you up

you need proper nutrition not just counting calories

most PT’s sign you up for a min term it’s standard your not being robbed check t&c

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 27/11/2023 14:47

8 weeks isn't long for a body transformation!

LimeCheesecake · 27/11/2023 14:47

That’s all irrelevant to if you can just stop paying - what does the contract say?

SutWytTi · 27/11/2023 14:49

What does the contract say?

tescocreditcard · 27/11/2023 14:51

You can stop anytime, you just won't get your money back. What does your contract say?

megletthesecond · 27/11/2023 14:51

It depends whether the diet plan is suitable too. Is it a balanced healthy diet or a bonkers smoothie / low fat / high protein type regime?

Optionyougot · 27/11/2023 14:52

Can you tell us the wording in the contract? Do you have a copy from when you signed, or the t&Cs if it is on a Web page?

Finteq · 27/11/2023 14:53

You need to check your contract

Mazuslongtoenail · 27/11/2023 14:58

It depends what’s in your contract. If you signed a 12 month mobile contract you wouldn’t expect to be able to get out half way through.

I can see why it feels different when it’s one guy who won’t need to provide the service. But people’s motivation for fitness is notoriously up and down and he needs some sort of commitment presumably. As long as the terms were clear I think it’s probably fair enough.

I think this hits the nail on the head.

You signed up, so tough luck.

Mariposista · 27/11/2023 15:01

Also OP - what is your plan if you give up? Go back to how you were before? Not an option!

You can do this!

sixteenfurryfeet · 27/11/2023 15:01

Ask him to email you a copy of the contract you supposedly signed.

OlderandwiserMaybe · 27/11/2023 15:02

Sorry you're seeing such slow progress OP - I agree actually that 2lbs weight loss in 2 months isn't that great and you're not likely to visibly see 2lbs weight loss or notice your clothes fit differently. 2lbs per week is generally considered steady progress for any weight loss plan.

As for cancelling - the only thing that is relevant is the wording on the contract you were given. You may not get your money back - but you can always leave the PT a bad review if you feel its their programme which is to blame.

lemonsandlimesx · 27/11/2023 15:02

OP weight is so subjective.
Did you take before photos?
Please don't give up just because the scales say something you don't like.
You're getting fitter by attending the classes. Stop tracking steps. Do your classes and track your calories 3/4 days a week. Ensure you're drinking plenty of water and take the pressure off.
Just attend in jan feb and March and see how you get on. I weigh more now, but my shape is better. I'm stronger. And my PT keeps me motivated!

ActDottie · 27/11/2023 15:03

Entirely depends on the contract and what you signed.

Personally I’d keep going and sticking to everything as weight loss isn’t linear and exercise and diet aren’t an instant fix it takes time and everyone’s body is different and will react to a diet and exercise regime differently.

Quitelikeit · 27/11/2023 15:07

You need to read your contract to see if and under what circumstances you can cancel. It sounds like there are none if your PT is to be believed

I’d love to know your weight, daily calories and menu examples!
