Disgusting. That poor woman's family must be beside themselves.

Jessforless · 24/11/2023 12:37

I think I read that they weren’t going to oppose his release? Just a headline though so could have been misleading.

Sowhatsnext123 · 24/11/2023 12:40

And you just know there'll be a whole bunch of Instagram "models" flocking all over him purely for fame and attention.

RIP Reeva. You deserved better x

Aquamarine1029 · 24/11/2023 12:41

How long before history repeats itself?

CharliesAngels81 · 24/11/2023 12:44

Surely once he has done his sentence he is allowed to be released?

Maybe he is reformed.

funbags3 · 24/11/2023 12:45

The amount of time he got for taking her life is laughable. The consolation, I suppose, is that he ruined his whole Olympic career as I can't imagine there'll be any comeback for him.

How can you be reformed from killing in literal cold blood though? Serving your time is one thing, but he is and will forever be woman hating woman murdering scum

Sidebeforeself · 24/11/2023 12:52

Once again we learn that the value of a woman’s life is nothing in comparison to the cost of a man’s successful career eh? Her poor poor family.

Delugeafterdeluge · 24/11/2023 12:52

Can it really be ten years? I can’t believe it!

And did he ever admit to killing her or is he still maintaining that it was an accident?

I must say I’m surprised that he is being released so soon. On the other hand, his reputation is utterly destroyed. He does have the resources to go elsewhere and build a life though.

Of course it's not unreasonable for someone to be released at the end of their sentence.

But it's not surprising people think 11 years in prison is not a long time for murder.

Absolutely - it's shocking! I remember this so well and can hardly believe it was 10 years ago. I hope he had hard prison time but suspect he had a cushioned time due to his family being wealthy and influential

Scruffington · 24/11/2023 13:17

I despise this snivelling murderer.

No doubt he'll be offered big bucks for his first TV interview.

Blinkityblonk · 24/11/2023 13:18

Whatever he does, wherever he goes, people know what he is. I don't think he will have a great life, and I hope not tbh.

seagull82 · 24/11/2023 13:22

He should have been sentenced to life in prison, meaning he is never released.

GirrlCrush · 24/11/2023 13:25

He was sentenced according to the guidelines

A full life tariff....if they exist in SA was not on the cards

WeaselCheeks · 24/11/2023 13:26

He's not even done that - he was jailed in 2014.

Anazingly he only got 5 years originally for culpable homicide, got released on house arrest during appeal, then his previous conviction was overturned and he waa found guilty. His sentence was extended to 6 years, before it was deemed too lenient and he got 13 years.

I can't see that he's reformed when he hasn't (afaik) ever taken responsibility for his crime.

Jewelspun · 24/11/2023 13:30

It's disgusting.

Who locks a toilet door when you get up in the night when it's just you and your loved one in the house?

Reeva locked the door and was trying to prevent him attacking her and took shelter in the bathroom which sadly he was able to shoot through the door and kill her.

GirrlCrush · 24/11/2023 13:30

In SA they are automatically eligible after they serve half the sentence then released on licence

Nothing to do with being reformed

Xmaspenguin · 24/11/2023 13:36

Regardless of anything else that allegedly did or did not happen on that night, he fired bullets which he knew were intended to cause significant damage and likely death to whoever he shot with them. He knew whoever he thought was behind that door, he was going to kill them.

Law in South Africa is different and all that etc etc. But he still intentionally set out to kill someone. Morally, he deserves nothing.

funbags3 · 24/11/2023 13:39

@Jewelspun I think they said she locked it as he was shouting that there was an intruder.

heldinadream · 24/11/2023 13:55

I just feel desperately sorry for Reeva's mother, June today.
Reeva's dad - June's husband Barry - died less than two months ago.

I don't really want to waste my thoughts on Pistorius.

Velvian · 24/11/2023 14:02

How can he be reformed when he has never even admitted what he did?

Well, I disagree with this. I lived in South Africa when apartheid was coming to an end and there was a lot of unrest and uneasiness. Just a difficult political time and a lot of people were, rightly, angry. But it was dangerous. My parents both had guns; both well trained in them. If someone DID break in, they would shoot and they would shoot to kill. There is nothing immoral about that. It can be a very dangerous country, and if you have an intruder then shooting to kill is not morally repugnant.

In this case though, it is a moot point. I don’t believe his intruder story. He murdered her in cold blood. This was not an accidental mistaken identity, he wasn’t shooting in self defence. He is just a murdered so yes, HE deserves nothing. But you cannot apply that to anyone who has ever shot bullets towards an intruder.

Thedm · 24/11/2023 14:04

Just to clarify, I disagreed with apartheid and I’m saying the righteous anger was on the black side. The racist bad anger was on the white side.

GirrlCrush · 24/11/2023 14:06

Yes I think the SA culture is a lot different to here. Agree about that
