How many saucepans do you have?

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 22/11/2023 20:49

Currently I have 3 stainless steel and 5 non stick. The non stick ones need replacing. I seem to be erring towards buying a new set of 3 of both types …. Is 9 saucepans silly? Am I just getting sucked in by Black Friday deals? I only have 5 rings on the hob after all….. but then we do use more than that on Christmas Day 🤔

In other news….why am I so hopelessly indecisive?!

I am astounded by how many pans people have. I cook all the time, usually for 5 but often for ten and we have three pans and two cast iron casserole dishes. I honestly don't understand why anyone would need more than that!

Cast iron sauté pan with lid
Cast iron skillet
Cast iron griddle
4 stainless steel saucepans, 3 with lids, and a milk pan
Wok
Large cast iron casserole pot
Massive stock/jam pot
2 non stick frying pans and a paella pan
Two layer stainless steel steamer

Use them all regularly. Two of the stainless steel pans were bought as part of set from Woolworths in the late 1990s, still going strong.

Oh dear 😔. I’m a little scared to admit how many pans

1 large wok
1 smaller wok
2 small woks - these are brilliant use them most days

1 tortilla pan

2 large frying pans, one deep one shallow
1 medium frying
2 small frying
1 deep small frying

1 milk pan - copper bottom
1 small frying pan - copper bottom

1 small pan I use for boiling eggs only

set of stainless steel pans - large/medium/small/milk + steamer to fit on top

2 stock pots - I find pans with 2 handles easier to use so these are new

1 pasta pan

2 preserving pans - 1 large 1 not so large ( these were my mums and I love them but don’t use them often)

2 tier ceramic stove top steamer

do I need to mention the slow cooker and the multi cooker 🥹.
panini press, rice cooker, dehydrator, airfryer

I have thrown out the deep fat fryer I never use it .

then of course there’s the roasting tins and cake tins and baking sheets.

in my defence, I love to cook, I’m always cooking something for so everyone ☺️

edit - I forgot the griddles
1 large 2 burner griddle
1 small round griddle ( advertised as the whatever pan )
1 baking stone

Three.

I'm single with one child and never do any big hosting as my flat is too small and I can't seat more than 4 people at my dining table.

WildCherryBlossom · 23/11/2023 08:53

7 saucepans ranging in size from little milk pan to huge things for pasta, soup, marmalade etc, 2 of those are non-stick, one is a stock pot / steamer too, then 2 frying pans (one deep, one shallow). I would love to add a a cast iron casserole with lid to the collection. Currently only have 4 ring hob, but eyeing up 5/6 ring hob for when we do a kitchen upgrade.

Oldraver · 23/11/2023 09:22

I have a set of three stainless steel ones and a dupliacte of the small one (which I bought first and liked so got the set. A milk pan and two cast iron casseroles.

Three frying pans and a wok. I wouldn't have space for anymore, the two smallest pans are already in a plinth drawer

User18650674 · 23/11/2023 09:27

I forgot my jam pan but that is upstairs in a storage cupboard as it is big and only used very occasionally so probably doesn't really count

truetruebarneymcgrew · 23/11/2023 09:30

3 big boiler pans,
2 smaller pans (gravy and milk pan size)
1 deep sided frying pan
1 proper milk pan, which I don't use much as it can't go in the dishwasher due to wooden handle, but it was a wedding gift to my parents from my mums Godmother, and the only thing I inherited after my mum died. I love the connection to my mum, and when I do use it I always think of her (she was an incredible mum and appreciate how lucky I was to have had her in my life for 38 years)

Tulipsroses · 23/11/2023 09:59

Hi I just need a couple of very small one. Not bigger than 10/12cm in diameter. Which brand would you recommend?

I have far more than I need. Wish I was able to Marie Kondo my pots but it's a crazy feeling to actually do it.

CrazyBaubles · 23/11/2023 11:08

4 saucepans (3 were a set, one is a matching giant couldron looking thing)

3 frying pans (a small 'can only fry 1 egg at a time' one, the perfect non stick one and a giant one that's barely used).

A 2 tier steamer for the hob.

3 casserole dishes (1 cast iron). They're not used often but they were gifts and I love them.

We also have about 4 oven trays. They're years old but perfectly fine.

Reading that back it looks like loads but it doesn't feel that way when I'm cooking ConfusedBlush

alwaysmovingforwards · 23/11/2023 12:13

5 ranging from small to double handle big one, all stainless steel with lids.
Think they were from M&S, but was a while ago now.
Good quality though and still being banged around daily.

WhatNoUsername · 23/11/2023 12:34

Three saucepans in different sizes. 1 wok. 1 frying pan. 1 stock pot. None non-stick. It's unnecessary and can leach stuff into your food if it gets scratched. All are triply with metal handles (so they can go from hob to grill to oven). They also have glass lids so you see what's occurring 😬

A couple of enamel cast iron casserole dishes.

Think that's it.

Peacheroo · 23/11/2023 12:34

You guys are so fancy. I have three, they came as a set. Who has the storage?!

ThistletoeAndGrime · 23/11/2023 12:37

2 x set of three stanless steal saucepans
2 stainless steel saute pans
2 non stick milk pans
3 x casserole dishes (2 x le crueset and 1 x stainless steel)
3 frying pans
2 woks

purplecorkheart · 23/11/2023 12:39

I have six saucepans of various sizes that are used regularly. I have three beasts of saucepans that I cannot lift when empty not to mind say if there is something in them(all gifts).

Nine being too much all depends on how much storage you have for them

Blueberrycreampie · 23/11/2023 12:47

5 Saucepans - they're a set which I've had for 23 years. They're Le Creuset and still going strong. Sometimes it would be handy to have a big stainless steel stock pan for eg soup but I get by without it. Have a few frying pans and a cast iron casserole pan and don't really have space for any more pans although I should have a clear out and get rid of some of my pans - I've got 3 cast iron griddle pans for example 😊.

soberfabulous · 23/11/2023 15:56

I can't bear too much stuff and am trying to live well with less.

Terfosaurus · 23/11/2023 16:14

I have 3 saucepans. I keep thinking I need another big one though.

PinkRoses1245 · 23/11/2023 16:15

I have four - two stainless steel, one milk pan and an Aga casserole pan. No need for any more!

DogsInTheDirtAgain · 23/11/2023 16:25

A lot, more than 9. We have plenty of storage so it’s not a problem and they all get used.

limefrog · 23/11/2023 16:31

5 saucepans and to be honest that's more than we really need, and we cook a lot.

(That doesn't include a frying pan, a griddle pan and a casserole).

I can't imagine why anyone would need 9 unless they are a huge family and cooking all the time.

MarleyandMarleyWoo · 23/11/2023 16:35

Just checked, I’ve 10 saucepans, a wok, a griddle and two frying pans plus a Le creuset casserole dish which was a wedding present. Saucepans in a variety of sizes of course.

TheSeasonalNameChange · 23/11/2023 16:38

Small, medium, very very large, big lidded frying pan, wok, and pancake pan get used. We also have about 6 other pans that we don't use but are inexplicably always at the front of the cupboard and fall out when it opens. You don't need 9 Pans, you need fewer good ones.

We wouldn't need as many if it wasn't for all the dietary requirements.
