I have been bleeding heavily and continuously from my vagina for 40 days. I am 32, I have PCOS and my last episode of continuous bleeding was after my son was born in 2021 and I bled for 16 months non stop. That eventually resolved itself and I fell into normal cycles (35ish day cycles for me normally, period last between 4 and 7 days).

My PCOS does not cause continuous bleeding for me, it causes the occasional very long cycle and sometimes cycles where I don’t ovulate.

I contacted my GP 2 weeks ago and got a phone appointment with a phone GP service a week later which I attended, and he sent me for a blood test because I am anaemic. This blood test has confirmed I am severely anaemic (HB is at 8.1) and yet instead of thinking ‘shit we need to find out why and stop this woman bleeding’ the action plan from my GP has been to prescribe me iron tablets and leave it at that (I am already taking iron tablets unprescribed and have been for 4 weeks because I’m not an idiot and knew I was having a bad period and would need topping up. This was before the period didn’t stop). I also have trans something acid which is supposed to stop the bleeding but I have repeatedly expressed that this is not working to the GP’s.

Today, I very suddenly flooded through a pair of heavy duty period pants and a maternity pad (I wear this combination 24/7 at the moment) and ruined an office chair at work. Totally saturated it and left a saturated patch about 20cm in diameter.

I have been to the GP’s 8 times about heavy periods and twice in the last 40 days, and have not been offered any further investigations like a scan despite insisting this is not normal for me. They appear to be convinced this is PCOS related.

Are there any medical people on here who can advise me how to navigate the system here? It feels like they’re content to just leave me like this but I think something is really wrong with me.

So glad your GP sent you OP, and I hope you get some answers now.

Bearpawk · 11/12/2023 19:04

Gosh op I just read your thread. How old infuriating. Can you imagine how quickly you'd get seen if you weren't a woman ?
Hope you get seen soon xx

Draculaswetdream · 11/12/2023 19:25

Good luck op

Definitely don't mention PCOS. They'll likely give you in interal ultrasound (aka dildocam) they might spot PCOS but that is not the source of this problem.

That’s going to be messy if they want to do an internal scan, not sure how I feel about that. Mind you they’ve probably seen it all before.

They'll have seen it all before. Don't stress.

Munchyseeds2 · 11/12/2023 19:37

They will definitely have seen it all before so don't worry about that

You have to have an ultrasound on day 3 of your cycle for certain fertility testing, it’s not as bad as you think it will be and they have indeed seen it all before.

NotTheLastUserName · 11/12/2023 20:08

Are you on micronised body identical PROGESTERONE or synthetic progestin?
It can make a difference. My body hates the synthetic stuff and eg on the implant I bled horrifically. Utrogestan (body identical) does control the bleeding

I hope you are seen soon.

Another pad bits the dust - no leakages this time though so our game of period pant roulette continues.

I know it sounds a bit weird but I am looking forward to the doctor putting all of your used pads on the weighing scale. Make sure you ask him/her the weight and confirm that this is figure is being typed into your records. Then ask how normal that is and what they are going to do about it.

I am really hoping for you that you finally get the validation and treatment that you are entitled to here OP.

alwaysbreaks · 11/12/2023 20:16

Sorry I missed some your updates. I hope they get it sorted for you.

Draculaswetdream · 11/12/2023 20:34

They’ve taken bloods and I’m being fed a sandwich and a hot drink to keep me going. The nurse taking my bloods took a brief history and when I said I’ve been bleeding none stop for 59 days she said ‘well that is criminal, we will get you sorted don’t you worry’ in a thick West Indies accent and I think I love her. We had a chat about everything I’ve been going through and she’s put me right at ease by saying I’m in exactly the right place and she won’t let me go until they’ve sorted me out. She’s a brilliant brilliant nurse.

Great update. So pleased you're there. It is criminal.

QuestionableMouse · 11/12/2023 21:06

So glad you're finally getting looked after!

Draculaswetdream · 11/12/2023 21:31

The tuna sandwich was actually not bad and the yoghurt was both thick AND creamy according to the packaging.

another pad down, I’ve got quite a collection. Passed a couple of mahoosive clots in the last hour, one was palm sized.

Bless her. I'm so glad you are getting seen to. Everything you are describing sounds like my friends fibroids.

Firefly2009 · 11/12/2023 21:51

That must be quite a heavy bag of pads by now to hand over. I'm so glad you went to A&E now.
