We've bought some halloumi on the shop to try - what's nice to do with it please?

Grill it. It doesn't melt like a lot of cheeses. We tend to think of it as being like vegetarian bacon!

It goes well with a salad or in toasted baguettes which have been rubbed with fresh tomatoes and garlic.

Halloumi is love. Grill it lightly, you can add some honey or spices depending on your taste, and add to salad, or sandwiches, or on its own. It can be a little salty so if you don't like the taste, baste with honey before/during grilling. I love a good halloumi wrap.

Halloumi is best marinated in olive oil and Mediterranean herbs, then griddled on both sides, before being gently slung in the bin.

Toolongtohols · 22/11/2023 17:06

We grill it and have it in burger buns with salsa and salad .

Cornettoninja · 22/11/2023 17:07

Dice it up, Fry it off with chilli and garlic then eat with a drizzle of olive oil and pasta of your choice.

delicious stuff and now I’m jealous.

flipent · 22/11/2023 17:08

It is also excellent coated in flour and fried with a jerk sauce and some spring onion thrown on.

Birchvalley · 22/11/2023 17:08

Make kebabs with it. Mushrooms, peppers, onions and big chunks of halloumi. Grill them.
Or grill it with some bacon and tomatoes and chuck it on a salad.

Joolsin · 22/11/2023 17:09

I make a fried rice thing with it. Pan fry the halloumi slices first (while cooking rice). Then put chopped onion, red pepper in a wok with sesame oil and start frying off, then add chopped halloumi. Add a few ladlefuls of the cooked, drained rice and fry for a bit, then add some more. Beat some eggs (I usually do one per person) and add to wok, cook, then bung the rest of the rice in, add soy sauce and stir it all in. Delicious!

We make halloumi fries.
Chop it into chip shape roll in olive oil, then roll in flour. Then air fry/bake on 200C for 15 mins.

Whataretheodds · 22/11/2023 17:17

Roasted Mediterranean veg traybake - you can grill or fry sliced or diced halloumi separately and add it in afterwards.

Or v simply with couscous. Chopped tomatoes cucumber parsley spring onions, season with salt pepper lemon juice and olive oil

Love halloumi!

I like it grilled on a flatbread with salad leaves, chilli jam and a bit of Mayo. Sometimes add falafel if I've got any.

Also love Halloumi burgers

AlisonDonut · 22/11/2023 17:28

I like it fried in slices, and then made into a HLT, with lettuce and tomato, with mayo in a toast sandwich.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 22/11/2023 17:30

Slice it first. Then grill or fry.

Decafflatteplease · 22/11/2023 17:30

Halloumi fajitas are lovely! Fry the halloumi then in a seperate pan fry peppers onions etc then pile into a wrap yum!

Veggie DC often has it in place of meat in a meal

RudithJudith · 22/11/2023 17:35

It's actually really nice chopped up into cubes and used in a curry, bit like paneer. We also like it in flatbreads, fried rice with veggies, kebabs, halloumi fries etc. Yum!

C8H10N4O2 · 22/11/2023 17:37

Its terrible stuff, send it to me 😁

Pan fried, grilled, baked with veg all work well. Kebabs if in BBQ season but if in the UK that might not be useful

OhpoorMe · 22/11/2023 17:47

Put it straight in the bin! Awful stuff

Flossflower · 22/11/2023 17:49

with vegetables on kebabs on bbq for vegetarians. We have a separate bbq for the vegetarians.

MadCatLady27 · 22/11/2023 17:50

Halloumi burgers, absolutely delicious -

Slice it into roughly burger thick slices. Lightly fry the halloumi, toast some brioche buns, put sweet chilli sauce (and mayonnaise if you like) on them, put the halloumi in the buns

Enjoy 😋

This ^

Goes cold really quickly and so turns to rubber. And it’s high calorie and expensive. Better off with goats cheese (with a nice beetroot, rocket and walnut salad)!

But as you’ve got it…grill then shove it down before it gets cold

pastypirate · 22/11/2023 17:52

I've just had it from hello fresh with peri peri seasoning then Fried with honey it was amazing

Once you've sliced or diced it, try soaking it in water before use. (I do overnight if I'm super organised, but a few hours is fine or even a few minutes can help.) It makes it less salty, and gives it a softer, less rubbery texture when cooked.

isthismylifenow · 22/11/2023 18:09

I dry fry it and have it with sweet chilli sauce dip. I think I could live on halloumi.

Not sure if at UK Nando's get the Bougee Bowl? It's a rice dish with chicken pieces, but I always order it with extra halloumi. I have no idea what they do to it, but is properly delicious.
