How inconsiderate is this

whatisforteamum · 22/11/2023 15:42

I always finish on time as my train links mean a 90 min wait if I miss the one straight After work.
My colleagues know this and all drive so don't really know what it is like to wait in the cold and dark.
Some how in my ddash to get out I left my keys hanging from my locker.
A whole bunch with a large key ring.
One colleague saw me go and doesn't have my number.Probably saw the keys though.
One colleague left after me and I'm 100 per cent sure she would ve seen them and the other woman probably knew by the other lady who is pally with her.
Arriving home to no keys is one thing so I contacted the train station who couldn't help and sent dh to look on the platform on his way home.
How bloody selfish of my colleagues to not just send a simple text.
I know it is my fault but really how inconsiderate not to let me know where they were.

Where was the locker, I'm confused. At first I thought it was at work but how would contacting the train station help, or DH for that matter if you'd left them in your locker? If the locker was at the station, how would your colleagues know if they drive?

Confused

Cosywintertime · 22/11/2023 15:49

I’m also confused, you left your keys and you think your colleagues should have noticed them in their own rush to get out and contacted you?

AdultLounge · 22/11/2023 15:49

I'm really confused too. What's you getting a train anything to do with you forgetting your keys?

I'd be pretty pissed off too driving home on a wet movement night and finding out I'd left my keys at work.

Poor you. Bet you're pissed off tired and cold! Rant away :)

whatisforteamum · 22/11/2023 15:50

Locker is at work in a row with everyone else's.
Dh checked the platform in case I dropped them getting my gloves out my bag.

BeadedBubbles · 22/11/2023 15:53

The fact that your keys were in plain sight is no guarantee that your colleagues would notice them. After all, they were in plain sight for you and you didn't pick them up ...

justalittlesnoel · 22/11/2023 15:54

I wouldn't pay any attention to keys in a locker - of if I did I'd assume you were somewhere about doing something else later or similar.

andymary · 22/11/2023 15:54

If you didn't notice the keys hanging out of your own locker, then what makes you think that someone else noticed them?

And even if they did notice them, how would they know if you normally leave them there, or if you were meant to leave them there on this occasion. Or on the other hand, if they thought that you'd desperately need them and forgot them, enough to make them think to text you, how could they when they don't even have your number?

It's a crappy situation for sure. But unfair to blame someone else for your own responsibilities.

Nattalie18 · 22/11/2023 15:55

Honestly? You are being completely unreasonable. Your keys are not their responsibility. Everyone is focused on their own getting home, probably didn’t even clock them.

justanotherparrot · 22/11/2023 15:57

There's a possibility they didn't notice them , I can't imagine anyone would ignore them on purpose once you'd left. Could they have just thought you'd nipped somewhere else before actually leaving? At least you've got them back and no harm's been done.
If it's really bothering you, ask them about it. End of the day though, it's your own responsibility and we all make errors.

MonsteraMama · 22/11/2023 15:57

You're basing your quite harsh judgement of your colleagues on an assumption that they saw the keys and chose not to do anything.

The likelihood is they didn't notice. You didn't notice them yourself so why would they? When I'm heading home at the end of the day my mind is on a million other things and my body is on autopilot, I'd very likely not notice a bunch of keys in a locker door either.

FictionalCharacter · 22/11/2023 16:05

If I saw some keys hanging from a locker door, I’d assume the owner had gone to the loo or popped out to see someone. I wouldn’t assume they had left the building.

idontlikealdi · 22/11/2023 16:06

You didn't see them so why would your colleagues have noticed / cared / known what they were?

TeenLifeMum · 22/11/2023 16:08

Do you usually blame others for your errors? I’m sure everyone is rushing home and not paying the level of attention to these things that you seem to expect.

Bookworm1111 · 22/11/2023 16:14

How can you be 100% sure they saw them? If they chatting and focused on getting their own stuff to go home, it's more likely they didn't give your locker a second glance. Yes, it's annoying when you mislay belongings, but it's hardly their fault!

IglesiasPiggl · 22/11/2023 16:19

You are trying to blame others for the fact that you have a silly commute and forgot your keys. Obviously if they had seen them and knew you'd left, they would have called you. Do really think they deliberately didn't tell you, or maybe you're just having a bad day? Have a cuppa and do not mention this to them when you've calmed down tomorrow.

GretaGip · 22/11/2023 16:20

What has your long journey and your colleagues driving status got to do with this? Confused

YABVU to expect your colleagues to guess that you'd left the keys accidentally.

AgaMM · 22/11/2023 16:20

Agree with others. You’re acting like they all noticed and each chose deliberately to not tell you. But it’s more likely that they didn’t notice, or if they did notice, didn’t put much thought into it.

PingPongPiddlyPong · 22/11/2023 16:22

How do you know they saw them?
You didn’t see them.
Your error, your responsibility.

tattygrl · 22/11/2023 16:24

It's highly likely that your colleagues didn't notice your keys. The rush home from work has everyone honed in on their own stuff, making sure they've got all the things they need to take home, getting jackets on, finding car keys, etc. It's very very possible they wouldn't notice keys, even a big bunch, in the key of someone else's locker.

It's also very possible that they noticed the keys but thought you probably meant to leave them there. Sounds weird maybe, but sometimes people do leave keys in their locker locks if they don't need them elsewhere and their locker is empty. As a PP said, they might also have seen your keys but assumed you'd nipped into another room for some reason.

Totally understandable to be grumpy about the situation, but let go of the resentment towards your colleagues. They've really done nothing wrong and ruminating on their "inconsiderateness" is just going to make you feel worse.

Overthebow · 22/11/2023 16:24

Your colleagues probably didn’t notice. You didn’t, so why would they? Are you sure they are even there, maybe you dropped them walking to the station or somewhere else.

Jewelspun · 22/11/2023 16:28

Everyone leaving work has other things in their mind - what's for tea, family, children, pets, holidays, Christmas etc

It's entirely possible they wouldn't have noticed the keys.

ThreeRingCircus · 22/11/2023 16:47

If you didn't notice them why do you assume anyone else would? You seem to be suggesting they saw them, knew you'd get home and not have your keys and deliberately didn't tell you. That obviously will not be what happened.

When I'm leaving work I'm wondering what the traffic is like, thinking about what to make for dinner and if I need to go to the supermarket on my way home, thinking about all the work stuff that has gone on that day, wondering if the kids had a good day at school etc etc. I'm sure I wouldn't notice keys hanging from a locker and even if I did, my first assumption would be that person must have just nipped to the loo or gone to wash their tea mug up.

Fancylike · 22/11/2023 16:50

You’re blaming everyone at work for a mistake that was entirely your own doing.

MargaretThursday · 22/11/2023 16:54

First colleague probably popped them into your drawer/the safe. He doesn't have your number so thinks at least they'd be safe there.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/11/2023 16:55

You are not 100% sure your colleagues saw anything because that's impossible. You have no idea whether they saw them or not, and it's not their responsibility anyway.
