Ideas to raise some money quick (not Vinted!)

FrancisSeaton · 22/11/2023 11:16

I'm unwell currently so working overtime isn't an option nor is selling as I've sold literally all my clutter in the summer as it was driving me mad
I need to raise about 200 pounds for Christmas to make it a bit less tight but I'm stumped apart from the usual ideas- anyone got anything that could help me? Thanks

I know it's not ideal but in those circumstances before I have contacted my regular debt payments and went to lower payments plans for a few months just to bump up the following months spare cash. Is this an option

I don't have debt payments?

Have you looked at switching bank accounts for the sign up bonuses?

I got £200 from Halifax within a month and am now waiting for an additional £175 from Barclays.

MrsWolf39 · 22/11/2023 16:08

Not Halifax, Nationwide sorry

Lavenderosa · 22/11/2023 16:18

If you can't work for it or sell anything, can't you extend your overdraft or get a bank loan?

FrancisSeaton · 22/11/2023 16:21

Don't have an overdraft and there's no way I want to get into debt for Christmas

Sign up for Quidco and see if there are any ways of earning via your normal spending on there. I'm happy to send you a referral code if you want one, we'll each get £15 out of it.

DM me if you want. It's not a scam, I've earned over £300 from it

andymary · 22/11/2023 16:33

What hobbies or interests do you have?

Baking some Christmas cakes / mince pies / cookies for Christmas to sell on Facebook and let people come and collect at your house?

Knitting? Offer to knit some custom wooly scarves for people to buy as Christmas presents? You can post them out or have people come collect.

You'll get the usual responses to the usual question: match betting, baking, bank switches, ironing etc.

But, your OP says you don't want to work more (no overtime) and you don't want to sell. So, I'm not sure what you expect people to suggest, unless you're hoping someone has a golden goose they can offer you.

Getting into £200 debt for Xmas isn't the end of the world and saves you a lot of hassle. Look for a credit card offering an interest-free period and then you can pay it back in 2024 with very little stress.

NoSquirrels · 22/11/2023 16:41

Switch your bank account. That’s the quickest and easiest way to get £200 or thereabouts.

But honestly, if you have no money for Christmas, just tell everyone that.

Are you budgeting OK otherwise? Next year try to set aside a bit a month.

Sign up to market research agencies

This is the best suggestion

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/11/2023 16:46

Also selling stuff off Fb marketplace especially if you have kids - bundles of clothes and books and toys sell more easily then individual items

coffeetofunction · 22/11/2023 16:46

Depending what you need the money for you may find other ways to cover costs or make saving ie referrals, money off vouchers including weekly shopping, working with only cash and saving change and left over cash for your big shop, you could try no deposit bingo/bets. Other ideas, renting out a drive/room you might have, online surveys, proof reading work for others, selling photos online

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/11/2023 16:48

If prolific are accepting applicants at the moment you could sign up for surveys. I get about £40 a month for very little effort so you could probably make £200 - disclaimed does depend on your profile I guess as surveys are targeted to you so different people will get different numbers.

Belltentdreamer · 22/11/2023 16:49

Babysitting - sorry if you want to make money you’ve got to work and lots of Xmas parties coming up. Lots of babysitting is sitting on someone’s sofa so not too taxing

MBM18 · 22/11/2023 17:01

Came on to say bank switching as well. I've made £850 from it this year from switching to 5 different banks.

How does that work with your credit rating and wages etc?

husbandcallsmepickle · 22/11/2023 17:12

Depending on your local council, council tax is paid 10 months of the year. You can request to defer December's payment to February or March. I did this on maternity leave when I had no income.

CandidFruit · 22/11/2023 18:36

Have you built up a lot of credit on your energy account?
Ask them to refund you if you have quite a sum in credit.

SaltPepperPotato · 22/11/2023 18:38

Someone I follow is doing a challenge to make £250 for Christmas. Let me see if I can find the link

I think the golden goose is what OP is hoping for.
