The four school friends in Wales

My heart is breaking for the parents of those four boys. Their sons look so lovely. What a waste.

Boys in cars are still every parent’s nightmare aren’t they?

Heartbreaking. I hope their families can find some strength somehow to deal with such an immense loss.

AhBiscuits · 21/11/2023 19:36

Three boys at my 6th form died in car crashes within months of getting their licences. I think when my children are that age I will be a nervous wreck.
Those poor families, they looked like nice boys.

WarningOfGails · 21/11/2023 19:40

me and DH were just talking about this, can so easily imagine it being our 16yo DC and their friends. DH’s half brother died at a similar age in a car crash 30 years ago. Not sure his dad ever got over it really. How can you.

So dreadful for all. My 3 boys are now in their mid/late 30’s. One is now volunteering for mountain rescue. You never stop worrying.

itsgettingweird · 21/11/2023 19:42

Absolute tragedy.

Teen adventure ending in death.

They were just starting g their lives of adventures. I have my own 19yo ds and this has really pulled my heartstrings 🥲

Dymaxion · 21/11/2023 19:42

They look like such lovely boys. My heart goes out to their families and friends. Just so tragic Sad

peachescariad · 21/11/2023 19:43

Can't begin to imagine how those parents are feeling...I've have 2 DS who are early 20s now, but I remember their thrill and bursting with independence when they passed their driving tests.
Absolutely tragic and desperately sad news. My heart goes out to those parents.

It’s so sad!

How quickly life can change.

The only silver lining is that wherever they are now, they are together 💐

There is no silver lining here.

AlwaysGinPlease · 21/11/2023 19:48

Utterly heartbreaking. Their poor families. Why couldn't it have happened to the four evil "men"that killed that young girl Ashley Dale. Why couldn't those four have died in a car crash instead, preferably before they killed her. No natural justice.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/11/2023 19:48

I really hope alcohol wasn't involved. Those poor families. Just awful.

Takethehintandfuckoff · 21/11/2023 19:49

Those poor families, it’s just heartbreaking. I have a 16-year-old DS.

I've driven that road, in the summer and with many years of driving experience. Just the weather conditions would have easily been enough.

daisybrown37 · 21/11/2023 19:57

The previous thread was locked for a reason. This is a very personal tragedy for the families and should not be speculated about.

flibbertigiblets · 21/11/2023 19:58

It’s a tragedy.

For some PP..
@CandyLeBonBon @StiffyByngsDogBartholomew @RubySunset82 @Angrycat2768 @lollipoprainbow @Nowherenew

I feel qualified to say this having had that panic of my younger brother not being home followed by the knock at the door from the police informing us he died in an RTA on the way home..

Speculation is unhelpful, unnecessary and downright insensitive. Trying to minimise the sheer magnitude of grief with “at least..” is just as bad.

Thankfully it’s unlikely friends and families of these 4 lads will read such insensitive and baseless comments buried on mumsnet.

CeeJay81 · 21/11/2023 19:58

It is really heartbreaking. We aren't all that far away from there and know the area. Weather was horrendous on Sunday. When your an inexperienced driver and not use to the rural roads here in Wales, I can easily see something this happening unfortunately.

I don't think it's the time or place for speculative comments like this.

Terrible tragedy.
Similar happened near where I live, not in the UK. Four lads were driving home in poor weather and slipped off the road on a tight corner with the car ending up in the lake. That was over 20 years ago. There's a beautiful memorial to them near where it happened with their pictures- It makes me very emotional every time I see it - every year that goes past everyone else gets older and they stay the same.

lollipoprainbow · 21/11/2023 20:17

@flibbertigiblets I've also had my fair share of tragedy so am taken aback by your comments that I'm being insensitive. Believe me I wasn't I think it's terrible.

The other people you have tagged as insensitive haven't said anything awful either.

It’s a personal tragedy and a community one.

A huge number of people will be affected by this. Four young blokes, full of life, no longer here. That will make a massive impact.

@flibbertigiblets trying to work out what I’ve said is wrong. I’m talking from experience too, happened to my cousin, and yes it was his youth and misadventure. I am so very sorry about your brother. But you can’t know everyone’s life.

Edited

I'm so very sorry about your brother @flibbertigiblets

I couldn't agree more with your sage advice to some pps. I do realise that they almost certainly meant well, but more sensitivity and thought was needed, avoiding speculation and especially from the 'at least...' posters. If only any of the boys had survived for their loved ones and themselves.

In my own experience though, comments posted online, including on this thread and the locked thread, are very likely to be searched and read by at least some of the boys' loved ones, perhaps by their mums in the future on one of the endless sleepless nights ahead. I think the crass comments on this thread should be deleted and the whole of the locked thread.

WakingCliche · 21/11/2023 20:42

I went home in the summer and we still remember the 4 lads who died in a crash that were with us at school all aged about 17, it’s almost 40 years ago now.

Very sad.
