Note on car : what happens now?

I work for a university, as is common there are significant problems with parking. When I can't get a space onsite, I usually park outside SILs house which is 20 minutes walk away. However I found a side street 5 minutes closer today.
I came back today (short day) to find this note on my car.

No phone number and no one around, didn't fancy knocking on doors.
I wasn't parked on double yellows, in a disabled bay or blocked anyone in. I was admittedly quite a way on the pavement. Obviously will not park there again and will go to SILs from now on.

What's the worst that can happen here? Parking fine? Thanks.

Probably not room for a pram or wheelchair to pass. It isn't a main road.

Why park on the path at all? YABU blocking the path to be honest

Really selfish then and deserves a fine. My son is in a wheelchair and people like you make an already difficult situation r.e. getting out even worse

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 21/11/2023 16:23

Parked over the lowered ramp curb ? Literally have seen someone in a wheelchair topple out trying to get down the normal bit.

Topsy44 · 21/11/2023 16:27

I think some of these replies are unreasonably harsh. We’ve all probably made a parking error sometime in our lives!

No need to beat yourself up OP and imo nothing will happen - the note was just written to put the wind up you. From the wording of the note I doubt they’d have the intelligence to report anywhere!!

No not a lowered ramp kerb.

There’s quite a lot of venom coming from some on here. We all make mistakes and misjudgments and you’ve said you won’t do it again … I’m sure you’re not a shit human!

Were they ok?

Its shit when you need the ramp but it’s blocked and then you either put yourself at risk (as you described) or you want to make a HUGE detour to go around ‘that’ car.

RoundTheBendThenBackAgain · 21/11/2023 16:35

It was a very selfish thing to do, but you don't sound like you did it out of badness, you just didn't realise. The note was probably from someone pushing a buggy or wheelchair who was either forced to bump it down the kerb and go into traffic or they were forced to turn around if they couldn't do that.

In regards to what will happen. I reported a selfish dickhead who used to do this all the time, forcing people to walk in the road. I took a photo of 3 different occasions of them doing it and a neighbour told me that the person did eventually get a ticket. They may not have reported you though, so maybe nothing will come of it.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 21/11/2023 16:37

They were okay in this situation I don't think they could have gone another way they were coming from a large supermarket, the road needing crossing was past a mini roundabout to the right is the hospital and left main road. They had someone with them , a few of us made sure the traffic stopped and One of the day ambulance crew stopped and assisted very fortunately.

wokbun · 21/11/2023 16:39

Hopefully a massive fine

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/11/2023 16:39

How does anyone not know that you need to leave enough room for wheelchairs and pushchair? It's not like it's something you need to have years of driving experience to learn

Can it be more than a PCN fine?

Probably because there’s quite a few wheelchair users on here who would like to be able to go out and about the same as able bodied people do without having to plan every journey around unthinking motorists.

I genuinely believe that every single person should be forced to spend a day or two in a wheelchair and see life from our vantage point.

Cajanz · 21/11/2023 16:48

I agree with you. My dad was in a wheelchair and I know how difficult it can be. I just feel a bit sorry for the OP too as I’m sure she’s well
and truly got the message now that it’s not ok to park on the pavement

Stomacharmeleon · 21/11/2023 16:49

Poster has said sorry numerous times and gone into detail about why.... not sure why it's still an issue?
And before anyone pipes up. I am disabled.

topnoddy · 21/11/2023 16:52

Top Tip , like you get in Viz , don't park blocking the pavement

In which case the note is right but at least you now realise and won't do it again.

We park with 2 wheels on the pavement in my road but the pavement is so wide it's possible to park a complete car on it and still get past (I was told to do it by the police before anyone says anything!). I wouldn't dream of doing it if people couldn't get past.

Well, obviously dont block pavements.

marvelousmarmite · 21/11/2023 16:57

OP I think you sound lovely. Not your best parking but hardly defines you as a human. Ignore those that are on page 3 of 'outrage' at the reported parking of a stranger on the internet. And bin the note - nothing will happen.

GoingDownLikeBHS · 21/11/2023 17:02

Many people in the village where I live happily block all the pavements, then post on the village Facebook page talking about donating to charity for a child in a wheelchair etc. No one ever challenges them, no one gives a toss.

Yes don't do it again, now you realise but I'd ignore note.

PeggyPoggleshaw · 21/11/2023 17:07

You're lucky the police didn't turn up because if they had they would have either given you a fixed penalty notice or had your car towed away to a compound.

Anyway, just look at it as a lesson learned.

Lilofthevalley · 21/11/2023 17:08

My daughter uses a motorised wheelchair. She can't turn around or get onto the road if a car is on the pavement, she has to reverse - she can't look behind her because of her head support, she has to reverse as far as a drop kerb then drive onto the road, drive on the road in the traffic to pass the car, to the next drop kerb, then go into the middle of the road to mount the kerb at a 90 degree angle. It is not simply a case of walking in the road for a few metres. She is also about 4 ft high sat in her chair so feels extremely vulnerable.

Maybe trying a wheelchair for a day should be mandatory for everyone - especially town planners who never put drop kerbs opposite each other and often mount sign post poles in the middle of pavements making it impassable.
Experiencing 'a day in the life' of many people who have challenges would make us all much less selfish and less likely to be a twat.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 21/11/2023 17:08

It's not just about the obstruction on the day, it's about the potential damage to the pavements and kerbs that is caused by vehicles bumping up and down them. Pavements are not designed to take the weight of vehicles and the resultant damage can cause trip hazards for those using the paths, even more so if they are less mobile or have a visual impairment.
