What stupid little inconsequential things do people you live with do that enrage you?!

I live with adult Ds. By the kettle, I have a spoon rest with, unsurprisingly perhaps, a spoon on it. I leave the spoon there all day because I use it to stir my tea. In the evening it goes in the dishwasher. Adult ds knows this.

And yet, Every Time I go to stir my tea, my spoon has gone! Every. Time. I mean, tbf, I've probably only mentioned it a million times so I expect I should say it a bit more often. This morning, the absent spoon has catapulted me into a seething raging murderous mood.

Like I said, it's the little things ...

When my husband wants me to give him a bit of my Coke Zero. He will ask me for a 'whet' of it. It makes me absolutely incandescent with rage!

Urgh I just shuddered with cringe 😬

My husband -

leaves a (used) knife on top of the butter dish.
Never closes a cupboard or drawer after he's opened one and taken out stuff he wants from there.
Leaves the cardboard inner tube from a toilet roll just hanging on the holder.
Spills water from the kettle, onto the worktop, every time he makes a drink.
Slurps his tea.

It's a good job he has a lot of good points. Married 43 years.

This may be a Northern thing too, my DH says it and I've heard a lot of others say it too! Haven't really thought about it til you mentioned it!!! I tend to say give us a slurp, which is probably worse!!! 🤣🤣🤣

DP tries to clean the sink, draining board and worktops with a postage stamp sized piece of kitchen roll which he keeps spraying with antibacterial spray. I leave out a freshly washed dishcloth every day but he ignores it.

DS1(15) leaves a mixture of clean and dirty clothes scattered indiscriminately across his bedroom. I am NOT sniffing the armpits to see what's what. No thanks mate.

HolyMoly24 · 31/01/2024 23:20

My partner leaves empty packets etc on the kitchen counters instead of putting in the bin that is two steps away.

He also puts used teabags in the washing up bowl instead of the bin so I'm constantly fishing them out when doing the dishes. So annoying!!

justanothermummma · 01/02/2024 00:31

My DH offering to take the dirty dishes to the kitchen and leaving them on the worktop directly above the dishwasher for me to put the items in (that he then rearranges because his 'technique' is better)

No words

justanothermummma · 01/02/2024 00:36

Also being told of plans on the day, if not hours before and acting flabbergasted when I have no idea.

I put every plan I know about on my phone calendar (including the main attendee as an invitee cough DH) and on the kitchen calendar as soon as I've been told of said plan, if jt isn't on a calendar - Mrs Admin of Household and Childcare did not know 😂.

I was NOT happy to open the drawer to this. None of the dishwasher-emptying people in the house have owned up. But it hasn’t happened again since the Great Telling Off

😱I didn't know this was even possible. Never in my wildest dreams etc.

I've just realised that although I'm a Domestic Slut rather than a Domestic Goddess & I lose things all the time because I've put them down somewhere stupid/'safe' & forgotten where that was, everything in my kitchen drawers has its own place & can always be found there. How did that happen?

So we're all married to the same bloke huh?

Yup. Factory seconds.

garlictwist · 01/02/2024 10:25

Beard hair in the sink.

Thelazygardener · 01/02/2024 10:45

Leaving a tiny mouthful of juice/milk in the container or half a teaspoon of yogurt/coleslaw/sandwich filler/butter in the bottom of pots because ‘technically’ he hasn’t finished it and is therefore not responsible for rinsing and putting it in the recycling…..drives me instane!

Yup. Factory seconds.

We definitely all are!

I bet if I were to create a giant list of all my annoyances, most would identify with them (see beard hair in the sink^^) 😂

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 02/02/2024 00:28

DH putting his toothbrush by the side of the sink instead of in the toothbrush holder. Why!

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 02/02/2024 01:02

Oh gosh, I’ve just thought of another one. My mother walks up and down the stairs so heavily I don’t need an alarm clock and wake up when she goes downstairs. When she’s cleaning or having a bath she also uses her laptop to play music really loudly, sings along and carries it round the house while singing along as well. SO annoying.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 10/02/2024 11:27

DH is generally easy to live with except when he calls for me and I have to go running round the house to him instead of him coming to find me.

Mammma91 · 10/02/2024 11:37

My DH, who puts cutlery away wrong. It goes left to right

forks
spoons
knives

He also puts clothes away in the wrong drawers and it fills me with absolute rage. Why? I’m quite heavily pregnant with DC2, he is now banned from putting laundry or dishes away until I can show him properly how to do it, I was getting far, far too stressed about it I had to take matters into my own hands.
Pleased to announce I haven’t found a single pair of knickers in my wardrobe since and DS clothes are hung neatly in his wardrobe with the hangers facing the correct way. He genuinely does try to be helpful and he’s great at everything else. Pick your battles, eh!

My husband does this and my son! It drives me mad. They also leave the toothpaste on the side with the lid off.

When my DH finishes washing up, he doesn't squeeze the water out of the sponge, so it sits there stinking of stale water.

This made me laugh my dh does this too and it grosses me out everytime! Cold, stale water 🤢
