Xmas token for team

FFSWhatToDoNow · 19/11/2023 12:48

This is my second Xmas with my team, who are all incredibly hard working. There are 14 of them, spread all over the country. Last year I did them each a little gift box with shortbread and chocolates etc but it took a lot of time and effort and cost about £4 each in postage. (I’m paying.)

Looking to simplify this year and just send them each a £10 voucher and handwritten note saying thank you for all their hard work. Question is, which voucher. I’ve done M+S before, but have been boycotting them for years. Tesco doesn’t feel very special. There’s a possibility of redundancies next year and I don’t think John Lewis/Waitrose is very tactful
if they are trying to save money and not buy things.

So where best to get a voucher?

How about £10 of scratch cards each in a hand written card? I'd love that ! I don't buy scratch cards myself but the anticipation of possibly winning something would be amazing! You could get 10 x £1, 5 x £2, 2 x £5...?

FFSWhatToDoNow · 19/11/2023 18:24

i often buy a lottery ticket to go in adult friends’ birthday cards so might do that. Not the whole £10 though as they might not get anything at all. A couple are religious so may not be happy with the gambling aspect. :-/

All4one or love2shop gives a bigger range of places

Apologies if this has been posted already:

Big Cadbury's bar delivered by Amazon £8.49

Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Gift Bar, Extra-Large, Rich Taste, Suitable for Vegetarians, Sustainable Cocoa, 850 g amzn.eu/d/6pW9D6r

BlackJumpsuit · 19/11/2023 19:06

Plus a a scratch card?

EasterMummie · 19/11/2023 23:33

I know you've already discounted it but I still think an Amazon one fits the bill best. Nothing is going to suit everyone, & at worst they can re-gift it.

Other than that, i'd go for Sainsbury as has a slightly more premium brand feel to it than Tesco & more widespread than JL/Waitrose.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/11/2023 23:43

Argos?

BarbaraofSeville · 20/11/2023 03:10

Given that you've boycotted the likely best solution, M&S, as its a bit of a treat for most people, widely available and as well as premium items, a lot of their basic groceries are very well priced, I think Sainsburys might be another option, but perhaps check that none of the potential recipients are miles away from one?

justanothermanicmonday1 · 20/11/2023 03:16

Starbucks or Costa gift cards x

Tapsaffweather · 20/11/2023 06:32

Definitely a national book token. Places like Waterstones also sell games so even if not big readers they’re bound to find some something they’ll enjoy.

BettyPhuckzer · 20/11/2023 06:41

You ARE coming across as rude and difficult but I expect that's the ADHD

You want special for £10?

Its not happening

If you were my boss I'd choose a £10 Tesco or Asda voucher so that I can either treat myself with wine/chocs or put the money towards a weekly shop if January is hard money wise

Most towns have a Tesco/Asda

Needmorelego · 20/11/2023 06:44

@Tapsaffweather if it's a Book Token you can only spend it on books - not the other stuff Waterstones sell.
Unfortunately I learned this when my daughter decided on a giant Moomin plushie.
@BettyPhuckzer £10 is perfect treat money and can easily be something special.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/11/2023 06:47

I'd say not a book token because unless people are in the habit of buying new books, it will be a chore to spend.

They might not be close to a bookshop
They might only read on Kindle, use the library, buy from charity shops etc.

dhxxx · 20/11/2023 07:09

I'd say Amazon as well. You can buy everyday essentials on there plus groceries (Morrisons) if they are trying to avoid buying 'stuff'

Papillon23 · 20/11/2023 07:15

Amazon or Sainsbury's are the best remaining options given you have boycotted the best option.

Sainsbury's homewares are lovely, and they do really surprisingly nice clothing or can be spent on food.

verrymerryberry · 20/11/2023 07:24

I'd love it receive any of the following in preference order

Aldi
Amazon
Tesco
Costa
Starbucks
M and S

John Lewis is a no for me no Waitrose or JL. Buying online the gift would be wiped out by postage.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 20/11/2023 07:27

Cinema voucher?

Someaddedsugar · 20/11/2023 07:35

@FFSWhatToDoNow apologies if this has been mentioned, I use a site called Prezzee to gift vouchers to my team. You can customise the message and they then exchange your £10 for a voucher at a store of your choice. The choice is vast compared to Love2Shop and the other high street ones, and you can generally spend online. It also gives you the option to exchange for a takeaway voucher which might be a nice treat at Christmas?

I've had the L2S voucher from work previously and they're a nightmare to spend, as is the one4all voucher or whatever it's called.

Someaddedsugar · 20/11/2023 07:36

www.prezzee.uk

Apologies I can't edit my post as using the app but this is the link.

BritneyBookClubPresident · 21/11/2023 23:01

A Just Eat voucher?

Imagwine · 21/11/2023 23:10

Our company gifts love2shop vouchers. They are very easy to use in a multitude of places.

OrigamiOwl · 21/11/2023 23:51

I'd also say Amazon - you can get so many different things on there, not just "stuff" for the sake of stuff. If they read then they can buy books, if they don't they aren't stuck with book tokens. They can choose a treat for themselves, or they can buy everyday essentials (I buy my dog food & toilet roll on there for example).

You are never going to find something everyone 100% agrees on, as proved by this thread.

Tintackedsea · 21/11/2023 23:59

Book token. Safe, accessible, ethical, useful.

Sainsbury's are not very common outside of the central belt of Scotland.
