Xmas token for team

This is my second Xmas with my team, who are all incredibly hard working. There are 14 of them, spread all over the country. Last year I did them each a little gift box with shortbread and chocolates etc but it took a lot of time and effort and cost about £4 each in postage. (I’m paying.)

Looking to simplify this year and just send them each a £10 voucher and handwritten note saying thank you for all their hard work. Question is, which voucher. I’ve done M+S before, but have been boycotting them for years. Tesco doesn’t feel very special. There’s a possibility of redundancies next year and I don’t think John Lewis/Waitrose is very tactful
if they are trying to save money and not buy things.

So where best to get a voucher?

Aldi do gift cards I saw the other day!

If you have any teammates up north it's likely they don't have one. We don't, and most things are more than £10 in JL. So it's a lovely thought but I might not even end up using it, which seems a waste given that you are putting lots of thought into what might be actually used/appreciates by people.

What about costa/Starbucks/Nero? That's enough money for a few coffees and even people who don't drink coffee probably drink tea or hot chocolate or eat cake.

Its a lovely thing you're doing.

They’re spread from the Scottish Borders to Cornwall.

Even where I am I’m about 8 miles from a Starbucks. .

Costa is a good idea actually.

Not for the likes of me - tea drinker, would be wasted. You can't please everyone!

There have been a couple of threads about the difficulty of using One 4 all giftcards, and they have a 'Bad' rating on TrustPilot with only 1.7 out of 5 stars.

waltzingparrot · 19/11/2023 13:28

I'd pick Costa too. It's a lovely gesture to get them a couple of festive coffees/hot chocolates. Nearly everywhere has one in easy driving distance.

SoddingWeddings · 19/11/2023 13:28

Would you consider sending them all £10 via PayPal? Might save some arguments. Anyone who doesn't have PayPal could be a bank transfer.

However Amazon is probably the ubiquitous option even if they don't have Prime. It can be used in future for any purchase they like. Don't ovdrhink it.

And because we all travel, we spend a fair bit of time in motorway service stations getting hot drinks! Doesn’t feel
much like a treat.

It just feels quite impersonal. I really want them to treat themselves in some way.

Not quite what you asked, but My manager usually sends us a bottle of something or a wee gift basket from amazon, you can change the shipping address so if you have prime there won’t be any delivery cost.

For £10 each?

Costa sell tea, hot chocolate, cakes and sandwiches etc.
@FFSWhatToDoNow I don't have anything close to me either so I'm the awkward one, but I'd be happy to save it til the next time
I was in a town with a costa.

SoddingWeddings · 19/11/2023 13:31

Do you all meet up at any point?

FFSWhatToDoNow · 19/11/2023 13:34

Generally 4 times a year if budget allows. Only managed twice this year because of financial pressures (hence looming redundancies). I do them little gift bags when we do (pens, fidget toys, sweets etc).

I do send them a bit of chocolate at Easter as well.

They work so hard and it’s hard being remote that we can’t spend more time together. But I’m obviously not made of money.

Wow, this is slightly mad OP. I mean, it's nice and everything, but it's not really needed. Your team will appreciate a good manager far more than sweets and vouchers.

I actually do think an emailed John Lewis / Waitrose voucher would be ideal.

John Lewis is expensive so £10 won't get you much. I personally don't have a Waitrose near me and actually could not tell you where there was one, so would be useless.

OP, we got those Love2Shop vouchers a couple of years ago and they were very easy to use. I used mine in TK Maxx

SoddingWeddings · 19/11/2023 13:38

Could you hold off on a gift until I'm person at the next meet up? Or literally just post everyone a big bar of chocolate? Cadburys do free delivery if you don't want set day arrivals. www.cadburygiftsdirect.co.uk/ for

They deserve both.

It’s likely some will be lost through redundancy before we next get approval to meet up, unfortunately. 😔

Look up Sweetiepost on Etsy , they do reasonably priced mini afternoon tea hampers etc . I’d appreciate that more than a £10 voucher .

bookish83 · 19/11/2023 13:43

A letterbox choc/brownie/baked goods delivery- use a company like chummy bakery who could post out individually to people but you do one big order say 10x brownie letterbox deliveries and they do the actual posting for you. There may be nice christmas boxes and utilise a 10% code if you can get one!

Just looked. The mark up on those is ridiculous. Would rather do them myself - but as per my OP I did that last year and it took a lot of time/effort.

That really depends on where people live.
