No one will close the windows at night time

It's either mice or frogs

Today it's a bat

I can not deal wit these cats

It used to be funny it is a total disgrace now

Don’t pick the bat up. If you get bitten or scratched, there is still a rabies risk in this country from them.

It is just what cats do however. If the windows are open, they will get out. It’s just cat nature. Be annoyed with the people leaving windows open, not the cats!

What do you mean

thisisasurvivor · 19/11/2023 09:54

It used to be funny when a little field mouse was running up and down the hall

Now it's a bat

And I'm the only one that close windows each night

OP posts:
thisisasurvivor · 19/11/2023 09:56

And we could catch the little field mouse

And walk down the field to let it get out

This is just awful now

You need to ring your vet and ask their advice. There is an (admittedly low) risk of the bat having rabies. That the cat caught it suggests it may not have been well. If you are not in the UK the risk is potentially much higher.

Once symptoms start it is too late to treat, and it is always fatal. In people a rabies vaccine course can be given to try to stop the disease developing. I do not know of that is the case with cats.

@thisisasurvivor how have you ever found it funny for a live animal to be tortured and then brought into your home when it's petrified? This is quite psychopathic.

thisisasurvivor · 19/11/2023 10:05

Oh my gosh
Ok good advice thank you 😊

Haha you are joking me

Funny initially for a minute when it was little cute field mouse who was sweet and could be put in a little box and released down the field immediately

Come off it

@thisisasurvivor you realize that after a cat has bitten an animal, bacteria is transferred and the animal will die without antibiotics? You also realise that mice spend the summer building up a nest and stash of food to last through winter and releasing them in a random place means they will likely freeze and starve? So a painful death from infection, starvation and freezing... But so hilarious to watch it running up and down. What a hoot.

Get a life

Seriously you are totally acting like a fool here

A moment of giggling at a cute
Little tiny mouse sitting unexpectedly in the hall does not amount to any kind of cruelty when It was taken out immediately to a safe space

So you are really barking up the wrong tree here

Well, as I assume you’re not expecting your cats to close the windows behind them, maybe talk to the other humans who live in your house about keeping the windows shut?

thisisasurvivor · 19/11/2023 10:21

Thanks for the sympathy much appreciated

Really helpful 😆😆😆😆

Our cat caught 2 bats (pippistrels?) this year and likes to bring them in through the catflap to show me :(
I keep a large jam jar and a bit of cardboard by the catflap and can usually catch them and return them out of sight in the garden. We've had frogs, bats, mice, a baby rat and squirrel this year. Its not like he's starving - he's a fat chuffer and ambles everywhere, even came back with a BBQ sausage once!

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2023 10:24

Oh god, what a nightmare.

One of ours has started bringing wild rabbits in. One looked OK so I took it outside but sadly it was dead when I went to look later.

Then I was greeted with another dead and headless one one morning when I got up.

Another brought in the biggest rat I'd ever seen. It's body alone was as big as my forearm.

Ah my goodness

Love my cats I just can't deal with this

And I love all animals so when I see them I get them taken out as humanely as possible to the bottom of a field away from crazy cat

Can’t you put a bell on your cat so these wild creatures get a warning and can escape, then you win’t have to deal with them?

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 19/11/2023 10:30

Where are you? It is far too cold to open the windows at night here in East Anglia. My cats have never had a bat, just lots of mice, rats and the odd pigeon. I know they are a protected species but bats totally freak me out, I can understand why the bat has upset you.

Hope you don't think I'm being dramatic they scare me so much

These poor creatures and my crazy cats 😮🤦🏼‍♀️

@thisisasurvivor just because you want to pretend you aren't cruel doesn't mean it's true.

Everything I have said is a fact:

"The most important thing to know is that there are bacteria on a cats teeth which, when they get into the mouse’s bloodstream via a bite, can cause fatal septicaemia. It is absolutely vital that the mouse gets treatment with antibiotics within a few hours of being caught by the cat."

www.allaboutmice.co.uk/help-with-wild-mice/#:~:text=The%20most%20important%20thing%20to,being%20caught%20by%20the%20cat.

"Releasing a mouse or rat into a strange area will almost surely result in the animal’s death because relocated animals don’t know where to find adequate food, water, or shelter and often become weak and succumb to predation or foreign parasites or disease against which they lack natural immunity."

www.peta.org/issues/wildlife/living-harmony-wildlife/house-mice/

But why don't you keep being aggressive and insulting against me while ignoring facts? You laugh at something in pain and act in a way that causes pain and suffering.

LovelaceBiggWither · 19/11/2023 10:37

Mine brought me a live snake once. That was nice. He was out in his cat enclosure and the snake must have dropped in to visit.

handyandie · 19/11/2023 10:38

@thisisasurvivor "Huge animal lover here trying to find the right balance"
😂😂😂 of course you are while laughing at animals in pain and causing their deaths.

Tundera · 19/11/2023 10:42

Keep your cat indoors.

Whiskeypowers · 19/11/2023 10:43

The bat needs to be checked by a vet as even a tiny amount of cat saliva can cause huge medical problems for a bat
Also it would be prudent to get a vet’s advice on whether your cat needs a rabies booster or anything else even though the s risk of a uk bat having it is much much lower.

ElFupacabra · 19/11/2023 10:45

I can not deal wit these cats
Make them wear a bell then, or stop them going out to decimate the local wildlife.
