No one will close the windows at night time

It's either mice or frogs

Today it's a bat

I can not deal wit these cats

It used to be funny it is a total disgrace now

A small number of bats in the UK have been found to carry rabies viruses called European Bat Lyssaviruses. There are two known types: EBLV-1 and EBLV-2.
A man in Scotland died of this disease recently.
Don't know if it's also in NI, but I wouldn’t take chances.

@thisisasurvivor
www.flat-cats.co.uk do purpose built window protection. Not sure about shipping costs, but there may be someone locks who do similar.
A catio is a good idea, can be diy or someone can supply and fit. Facebook has several catio pages if you want to be inspired.

fyi - the litter tray forum is probably a less viscous page to post anything cat related.

Cats are a pain in the tits. I loved mine but will never own another.

sixteenfurryfeet · 19/11/2023 16:19

I'd have thought bats would already be well into hibernation by now.

Giggorata · 19/11/2023 16:38

Yes, that would actually worry me a bit more!

AnneElliott · 19/11/2023 16:59

Oh God a abat would be a nightmare. We've had mice and the frog was a low point (they make an awful noise if they are upset!)

Caspianberg · 19/11/2023 17:06

If it’s any help, a bat fell down our loft hatch a few years ago. We were replacing loft hutch with larger ladder version so Jo cover a few days.
Anyway, it ended up in an empty bedroom. I looked online and best thing suggested was place a cardboard box in room on side so the bat has shelter, open window fully. Then full door to room and leave until dark. It crawled into box, stayed all afternoon then buy evening flew outside itself

Thank you all

Very much appreciated

I feel sad now about the cats
I love them but they can't do this to other innocent creatures

Cat enclosure attached to the utility room is looking like a great option now
We also have a large comfie shed with beds so may use that too

But windows staying shut

My old cat once brought a dog in!!! She wasn’t fussy about her one night stands.

JamJarson · 19/11/2023 17:28

Bells don’t always work. Apparently clever cats can learn to move without them ringing!

It is a good idea to keep cats in at night? But my previous cat still did bring in the odd mouse
in the day. However it was the (very) occasional bird, sometimes baby bird, that was difficult.

My current cat is very timid and doesn’t like going out much except for a quick munch of grass. It’s a relief in a way.

A catio sounds a good idea OP, if you have the space/money :-)

Get rid of the cat(s) if you cannot tolerate them behaving instinctively , ie hunting.

Sidebeforeself · 19/11/2023 18:38

Yes alive!! She opened the kitchen door and let him in for a good look round !

Piggywaspushed · 19/11/2023 18:48

Phew.

Growlybear83 · 19/11/2023 19:05

I sympathise. I've had cats all my life and until my current cat, I've never had one who was a hunter. My last cat caught two mice and a spider in her 21 years, and proudly brought me in a huge piece of tripe once. Then we got our current cat who catches anything thst moves. We never let him out at night, partly because we've got so many foxes who come into the garden and I'm worried that they may harm him, and also because I'm scared that he might catch a bat and bring it in. But he does spend a lot of the day outside and apart from mice and birds, he caught a squirrel recently, and brings in an endless supply of frogs. Thankfully he doesn't hurt the frogs, he just pats them and seems to like watching them hop. We've always been able to rescue them and cover them up with a pot until he's locked up indoors again and then they hop away.

Horrace · 19/11/2023 19:11

Ours have brought in bats a few times. We but the bat in a shoe box for a few hours to calm down before releasing it. None have died so far. Unlike the the many mice and birds. It's probably 50/50 with them.
It's nature
