Lost a stone in a year without trying

And I'm a little concerned by it. I'm 32, I always eat around 2000 ish calories a day, some days 1900 some days 2100. I have an office job but do weights around 3 times a week, try to walk an hour most days, and usually cycle. I am active but I'm not obsessive about it either.
Don't drink, but I do enjoy food, especially sugary things which I know aren't good.
No other health problems I'm aware of except for recurring utis which are very frustrating.
I checked my measurements in boots today, I am 5'6.5 and 8st 12 which gives me a BMI of approx 19.8. last year I was 9st 11/12.
I know I'm not underweight, but I'm now on the low side and concerned about the stone weight loss.
Not sure if it's something to be worried about? I've got slight hollowness and dark circles under my eyes which bothers me, not sure if it's related.

You need to see your GP if you have unexplained weight loss.

In a year it is not too quick, you can do that with a simple swap like changing your milk type, can you think of anything?

Don’t see what the issue is tbh. A stone over a year isn’t excessive and sounds like you keep active. If your concerned go and see your GP

I would see your GP. Unexplained weight loss can be a cause for concern.

Yeah, it was a gradual loss luckily. I will make a GP appointment tomorrow, I wasn't trying to lose weight and I've always had a good appetite so it's odd.

Has anything changed a year ago? New job? Covid (that can effect smell abd appetite), child birth/breastfeeding/pregnancy? More/less stress then last year?

Also different scales can weigh you very differently. Is there another scale you can try? Have you noticed loss elsewhere, clothes etc (are you sure you have actually lost that amount of weight)

I used the scales in boots both times but the weight was the same at home as well as at the gym. I've definitely had a bit of stress to be honest.

Honestly I don't think they would be concerned with a stone over a year. That's just over a pound a month.

Unexplained weight loss should be investigated by a GP. If you haven’t changed your diet or increased your exercise then there’s no reason to be losing weight when you’re in your 30s.

At the very least they should do some blood tests to check if there is anything out of the expected range.

14 pounds in a year is 0.25 pounds a week. As 1 pound is equivalent to 3000 calories, 0.25 is equivalent to 750. So that means you're burning about 100 calories a day more than you're eating. Easy enough to rectify if you want.

A stone over a year wouldn't be overly concerning in general, BUT you were slim to start with and a stone is a lot for you to lose, especially eithout even trying. Def see the GP if you can. (I'd struggle to get an appointment at mine).

If you can't, maybe think of adding some small changes into your diet, handful of nuts, bit of extra cheese or similar.

Try eating more calories. If you can put weight back on I wouldn't worry. Tbh, doesn't really seem like a Dr issue right now if you feel otherwise healthy..

This basically. If a larger person moaned that they'd put on a stone then everyone would know the answer would be to work out their calorie requirements and try and stick to a deficit. Same principle. With the amount of exercise you're doing you obviously need more than 2000 to maintain your weight.

For peace of mind (and because of the UTIs) I'd do a dipstick diabetes test. Just to rule it out, but I know weight loss and recurrent UTIs can be an indicator. But the doctor will hopefully do this anyway.

Always go the GP for unexplained weight loss if you haven't changed your diet or amount of daily/weekly activity, or any other lifestyle routines. It may be nothing, but get it checked. Asking any forum, friends or family is not going to give you the right answer, unless you're talking to a medical professional - and they'd say go see your GP.

If you can't get an appointment, call 111 and they'll get you to see a professional if needed.

Hmmm glad you're seeing gp. Yes, I know some have said it's not a lot, but it is at your weight when unexplained (most people add a stone in 30s).

Good to check in case of overactive thyroid etc. (Especially if feeling stressed). It's defo not a waste of gp time. This sort of weight loss is often the first indication of issues that are easily sorted if caught early.

Might be a thyroid thing, but that would also affect your mood (agitated) and sleep patterns (hard to get any!). Definitely get it checked out, hopefully nothing to worry about!

Devilsmommy I'd be much less worried about your weight loss as there's a clear reason. I'm usually 9 stone 3 and dip to 8 stone 3 a year after a baby. Mix of breastfeeding, running around after young kids, sleep deprivation, stress, giving kids healthy meals (so yours are healthier), wanting to lose baby weight at start, walking more, less time to snack, not deskbound etc. But still, if you're worried, get it checked- only you know if there are likely changes. I lose weight often once i stop breastfeeding. I think hormones etc. I put it gradually back on years 2/3 each time.
