Are you also thoroughly fed up with this never ending dismal, miserable November weather ?

I don't suppose it's just me but I'm going to rant about it anyway. The poor weather is one reason I cannot stand November. In West Yorkshire, it seems that every morning I wake up to low cloud, dark skies drizzle and rain. Apart from yesterday when it was dry and we had some morning sunshine; it clouded over early afternoon! It's soul destroying. Back to the rain this morning. Oh, the joys.

The other main reason November can do one for me is Black Friday. Go away! I don't care about discounts on goods I'd never have bought in the first place. Sod off back over the Atlantic where you came from and don't come back.

I swear I shall develop murderous intentions if Thanksgiving should ever dare to show its face in this country.

I'm fighting off one of these nasty viruses that's sweeping the country just now, so I am far less tolerant of November crap than usual. But I maintain that November is pointless and should be eradicated. I'm sorry if this affects you negatively.

Roll on spring!

If you were in the midst of the flooding, those of you who don’t mind it, maybe wouldn’t be so accepting.

DappledThings · 18/11/2023 13:14

Nah, it's fine. It's fairly typical Autumn weather. Doesn't bother me. I like it being dark earlier. It's more comforting than the harsh feeling I get from the sun still being around after dinner time.

It wouldn't be so bad if the flipping weather would make its mind up. Rain one day, sunshine the next. Then rain clearing up to sunshine the day after that. Then sun. Then rain. Everything so damp, esp the garden.

Agree about the feeling about the sun being around in the evening. Makes me feel eight years old again and having to go to bed when it's broad daylight.

Sorry, not seeing the logic of that argument. I can sympathise with people who are experiencing flooding AND not mind November weather. One doesn't exclude the other - like I can not mind winter while understanding while other people hate it.

SwordToFlamethrower · 18/11/2023 13:54

It's normal and seasonal. Be thankful it isn't 20 odd degrees or a drought!!

Could always book a holiday or buy a sad lamp!

Sorry, are you saying that because I don't mind seasonal weather, I'm ok with flooding? Really?

EdgarsTale · 18/11/2023 14:05

We’ve had some lovely crisp days here. I enjoy walking in this weather. The trees look beautiful, although I could do without the muddy ground.

And what is the other option other than 'accepting' (odd choice of words about something you can do absolutely nothing about) November weather in .... um .... November? This is about the most batshit post I've seen in a while.

I've noticed that MN is very fond of the "If you are/do/think this then you should/ought to/think the following" rule. A 'rule' completely fabricated by the person posting, natch.

Deathraystare · 18/11/2023 14:24

It is embarrassing as I am always whingeing when it is too hot. We know November will probably be rainy but am rather fed up with the rain. Especially when windy too. I am just a whinger I guess. Just like Catherine Tate's Nan!!

LlynTegid · 18/11/2023 14:38

It would be better if we did not put the clocks back in winter. At least in the southern half of England.

I just don't understand the logic behind thinking one would be ok with flooding and the devastation it causes, because they don't mind seasonal weather.

BerthaFlapjack · 18/11/2023 15:01

The flooding comment is laughable. Human are capable of sympathy and enjoyment at the same time.

Personally I like November. We have three family birthdays, the autumn colours are still beautiful, it is not long to the solstice. A time for soups, casseroles and cake. A time for woolly jumpers and socks. A time for slowing down a bit as our ancestors would have done.

I do agree about driving in the rain and dark though, I avoid that if possible.

LBFseBrom · 18/11/2023 16:20

I live on the edge of London and the only time I have experienced flooding is when water mains are broken and that's not too severe. I know it happens in other parts of the UK and is often devastating. I live on top of a hill and have walked downhill to the station with water pouring down around my feet but that's the extent of my experience.

It's dull here at the moment but not too cold outside, 15c.

Sexnotgender · 18/11/2023 16:22

Bluevelvetsofa · 18/11/2023 09:35

We have had relentless rain and wind for weeks. We’ve had and have still got, flooding, we’ve been on the national news, roads are closed and everyone trying to find a route out of the village means any open road is rammed. I can’t remember it ever being as bad as this and I’m utterly, utterly sick of it.

Similar here, absolutely awful. Never known such a wet November.

Nannyfannybanny · 18/11/2023 16:27

SE UK corner here, I am happy with the fact that it is raining one day and sunny the next. We have dogs,so the weather is irrelevant, it's lovely to walk on the beach in winter when it's mild. The bottom of my north facing back garden is under a few inches of water. We actually live halfway up a slight hill, the bottom roads flood. Just taken the dogs out,can see why, the drains are blocked with leaves.

Bluevelvetsofa · 18/11/2023 16:28

I’m saying that when you’re in the midst of floods, you just want to have some respite from relentless wind and rain, which isn’t ( or wasn’t ) typical autumn weather. There’s no ‘mists and mellow fruitfulness’ here, just damaged homes, businesses and closed roads. If you don’t understand how devastating that is, then your empathy is lacking.

MsChatterbox · 18/11/2023 16:44

That's why I've put my Christmas tree up already! No matter the weather I have a twinkling living room to sit it Grin

Agree. We also live in a flood zone and currently seem to spend our life watching the road nervously every time we get a downpour - the flooding creeps along the road and comes up our driveway. Not fun. Also the surrounding countryside is waterlogged and very muddy, so we can't walk the dog across the fields. I'm desperate for some cold clear weather!

That's because there isn't any to understand.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 18/11/2023 17:30

Oh look, another one of those rules

Look, everyone understands how devastating floods are for people and property, we're not all sitting here holding our sides laughing and saying 'Tough on them, eh, but I like November anyway.'

This month is invariably shit emotionally for me because November was the month in which, over various years, I lost parents and a much loved DGF. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy the turning of the season and doesn't mean I'm sitting here accusing people who say they like November from being insensitive for not understanding that I struggle a bit.

And where's anyone said they don't understand how devastating the floods are?

Yettisrus2 · 18/11/2023 17:31

The weather is so bloody miserable, the one day it was sunny I was in the office. I'm feeling really fed up,the shit weather pushes more people into the gym too and I can't get out for a walk or a bike ride which is frustrating.

gamerchick · 18/11/2023 17:34

It's been shit weather since July. Now we have the cold to look forward to.

Autumn never used to be this wet.
I resent living in the UK, I hate the relentless year round humidity and would much rather have lived in Scandinavia.

Well in Finland it gets dark from 4:30pm at the beginning of October and stays dark until March April. It isn't all idyllic. There is a depression epidemic and furthermore a suicide epidemic. People drink themselves into a stupor alone out of sheer drepression, men especially sadly. It really isn't all jolly.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 18/11/2023 19:01

It’s been ok today. Started off raining and then got drier which was good as was out during the day. Quite warm though and very humid, about 88% where I was.

Exactly.

FFS, chastising people for enjoying inclement weather is absolutely batshit.

There are humans and animals suffering from drought and starvation; do you still enjoy your food, water and baths?
