Are you also thoroughly fed up with this never ending dismal, miserable November weather ?

I don't suppose it's just me but I'm going to rant about it anyway. The poor weather is one reason I cannot stand November. In West Yorkshire, it seems that every morning I wake up to low cloud, dark skies drizzle and rain. Apart from yesterday when it was dry and we had some morning sunshine; it clouded over early afternoon! It's soul destroying. Back to the rain this morning. Oh, the joys.

The other main reason November can do one for me is Black Friday. Go away! I don't care about discounts on goods I'd never have bought in the first place. Sod off back over the Atlantic where you came from and don't come back.

I swear I shall develop murderous intentions if Thanksgiving should ever dare to show its face in this country.

I'm fighting off one of these nasty viruses that's sweeping the country just now, so I am far less tolerant of November crap than usual. But I maintain that November is pointless and should be eradicated. I'm sorry if this affects you negatively.

Roll on spring!

November and December are absolutely the worst months. Absolutely hate them. I pretend October is still summer and January is cold but at least Christmas is over and evenings are getting lighter.

BlackJumpsuit · 18/11/2023 10:14

What I'm wondering is, is it worse than usual because it's an El Niño or La Niña year, or is this how it's going to be now because of climate fuck up?

I don't mind rain so much but I really dislike the the warm, soupy, rainy weather we've been having for endless weeks. Since hitting menopause age I'm hot and sweaty all the time when out of the house, especially in the office and public transport.

I dream of actually cold days when I could wear a coat 😂😂

But I do miss the sun as well, we've had some sunny patches here and there but overall it feels grey, dark and oppressive. Which to be fair is typical November but the constant rain is just miserable along side it.

Stroopwaffels · 18/11/2023 10:15

Yes January is new beginnings and getting lighter. Spring around the corner. November is just a slog.

Thehonestybox · 18/11/2023 10:16

Yes to hating Black Friday! Two items in my Saved basket on Amazon suspiciously increased in priced last week, I'm guessing so they could be 'on sale' for Black Friday.

They were two pairs of shoes that have been £50 all year, went up to £70 last week....

alloalloallo · 18/11/2023 10:19

It sucks.

We’ve had horrible flooding and almost constant weather warnings for rain wind over the last 2 months - we had another one for rain again today.

Where’s all the crunchy leaves and crisp walks that everyone bangs on about? It’s soggy, muddy and damp here and feels like it has been for months.

I am going against the grain here, so I'm sorry.

I just take every day as it comes. It is Winter and in our climate we can't expect anything better than rain, cold, wind and dark nights. I adapt and get up extra early on weekends to do stuff and largely hibernate during the week nights bar the essentials. Actually the grim weather and darkness is an excuse to do very little which is magic for lazy people like me.....

I know I sound like a smug git. But resistance is futile!

Agree, enjoy it. Atmospheric, blustery weather always energizes me. It's the bland sunny summer days that bore me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/11/2023 10:20

It has been a soggy year. I've started taking photos of the weather on sunny days, just to remind myself there have been some. I'm not a good photographer but it means when I scroll through my pictures I see blue skies and a bit of sunshine.

This was yesterday (it's gone back to shit today Grin)

Not had storms but had lots of rain recently.

Stroopwaffels · 18/11/2023 10:21

Didn't have many of those in Scotland this year either. Week of nice weather in mid-June and that was it. July total washout.

TheTecknician · 18/11/2023 10:22

On the plus side, I am pleased to announce it's now stopped raining where I am!

Nothing lasts forever, even cold November rain.

So I'm told.

BlackJumpsuit · 18/11/2023 10:23

Someone was telling me yesterday that it's good for us to be out in the rain or after the rain. A quick google has turned this up.
I'm not a rain Pollyanna I promise!

No.

megletthesecond · 18/11/2023 10:25

I've never had such a backlog of laundry. At least on icy cold winter days the sun is usually out and the air is dry enough to get laundry dry.
Running is also hard going as there's so much mud and slippy leaves.
Roll on 22nd December when the evenings begin to lighten slowly.

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 18/11/2023 09:54

We’ve had a lot of rain here, but alternated with spectacularly beautiful blue-skies, golden-leaved days of the kind that make my soul soar. I absolutely love this time of year - I love the darker evenings and lighting the fire, I love wrapping up to get out for walks, making comforting casseroles and cakes, watching the leaves fall, the sunlight through the clouds, the approach of December and everything that comes with it… we’ve had a slightly relentless run of germs this year but it’s still far and away my favourite month. Sorry!

It's actually nice that someone likes November, because normally nobody has anything good to say about it!

megletthesecond · 18/11/2023 10:28

And if I had a pound for every time a weather presenter says "..and that rain will be falling on saturated ground..." I'd be doing nicely.

^ lovely

I was thinking yesterday of that poem “To Autumn” by John Keats

ladeluge · 18/11/2023 10:53

@TheYearOfSmallThings

That is a great photo. Keep up the snapping!

IheartNiles · 18/11/2023 11:34

Autumn never used to be this wet.
I resent living in the UK, I hate the relentless year round humidity and would much rather have lived in Scandinavia.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/11/2023 12:59

We learnt this at school. It's definitely stuck with me!

Puffypuffin · 18/11/2023 13:01

Doesn't bother me at all. Was it Billy Connolly who said there's no bad weather, just the wrong clothes? 😂

quivers · 18/11/2023 13:01

Still. Could be worse. You could live in Grindavik.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 18/11/2023 13:04

North Yorkshire coming in with solidarity. Up here we didn't have the lovely hot June weather that much of the rest of the country had, we were under a blanket of freezing cloud! We had a nice week at the end of June, then it started to rain - and has done more or less ever since (a couple of pleasant weeks excepted).

I actually think it might be my fault. I redesigned my garden. I'd got sick of the watering, having to run the hose through the house or carry buckets of water to fast-expiring pots, so I planted up a gravel-and-sedum garden to be droughtproof. It's rained every day since. Sorry.

Reframe of the month, if not the year.

DappledThings · 18/11/2023 13:14

Nah, it's fine. It's fairly typical Autumn weather. Doesn't bother me. I like it being dark earlier. It's more comforting than the harsh feeling I get from the sun still being around after dinner time.
