I'll start, I tried Audreys last year, made in the Hove and do or used to supply fortnum and mason.
I spent around 27 and chose my own. Extremely good and a real treat.

@RedCoatSearch i like the look of the leondis but can't see any info on what is actually in the various boxes... Is it just a selection.

Beech's Chocolate is good plus they have violet creams. Worth a try.

Leonidas chocolates are wonderful. You’re right if you are looking at their prepacked boxes, they don’t tend to say what’s in them, it’s usually described as “a selection” (a lot of the shops in Bruges when we were there tended to sell chocs like this, without specific descriptions). But if you buy through some sites like this (I’ve used this site before and it’s good) you can choose your own box filling from all their chocs:

I also recommend the Chococo boxes.

Talipesmum · 19/11/2023 09:17

The chocolate express website for choose your own is pretty bad on my phone and hard to see the selections - I think it’d benefit from a bigger screen! Though it’s possible if you scroll.

Chococo. Or Butlers.

Motezumas isn't particularly special, they sell it in the Coop.

Another vote for Pump Street. They have a cafe too, but it’s tiny.

melissasummerfield · 19/11/2023 10:04

Leonidas are fantastic , I have also recently been gifted bonbox chocolates and they were the best chocolates I have had in ages!

Bestchocolate · 19/11/2023 10:12

@Talipesmum that's fabulous, feels a little dodgy but you feel they are the actual chocolates not rip offs?

I going to try it anyway....

We have a leonidaa shop in our city. Sometimes we select the exact ones we want. But mostly we buy the made up boxes. You can choose a box with a mix of milk, dark & white or just milk etc
Inside the box you get a folder up brochure with all the chocolates listed & you can identify which one you're eating.

Generally I don't bother & just eat whatever one my fingers pick up - they're all good !

Bestchocolate · 19/11/2023 10:18

@RedCoatSearch lucky you 😀
However I must say the presentation of chocolates dumped in a box leaves a lot to be desired but I'm going to try them

They’re definitely the real ones. I’ve bought from them before.

Bestchocolate · 19/11/2023 10:20

@Talipesmum thank you that's fantastic.

For bars I like ombré and raw halo. They’re upf free and maybe vegan as well, but they’re really nice chocolate. Would work as a stocking filler 😊

I got rose and violet creams from hotel chocolate and they are good but they have emulsifier in them.

Cadburys etc are so poor now, but at least I am not tempted by the tubs anymore 😁

Mytholmroyd · 19/11/2023 10:23

The other thing I always get at Christmas is a good selection of Lindor balls and the kids string them with cotton and hang them on the tree - I also have a bare, twiggy tree in another room that we decorate with them - look great and are much nicer than standard tree chocolates.

haha I like to think of it as a glorious pile of chocolatey goodness! But if you prefer them laid out nicely, scroll down the page of the link I shared earlier and you can pick that type of box instead, with them laid flat in little holders. Enjoy!

DianaBarry5 · 19/11/2023 12:38

I hate Tony's ... tastes cheap and I just don't get the love.

RedCoatSearch · 19/11/2023 14:49

I don't have any issue with the presentation when we buy Leonidas. They come in a gold box & they create layers. I actually appreciate the fact that they pack each layer tightly.
The layers are separated with gold foil paper. Some boxes have 2 layers & some have 3 layers.
I prefer this than those huge flat boxes that are mostly moulding & filler

These are pretty amazing too.

Thank you for suggesting these. Just looked them up and they are perfect for my dairy allergic dd. Some lovely sounding flavours.

I had a tin of Lauden chocolates last year after seeing them recommended on a thread last year. They were really delicious but one annoyance was I couldn't tell the difference between some of the flavours before eating them. Only because I like to leave certain flavours to last as they are my favourites.

The previous year I had a box of Paul A Young chocolates and they were amazing.

@SomethingFun

Can rose and violet creams be made without emulsifiers?. I'm not entirely sure what they are...

Love this idea!

SomethingFun · 20/11/2023 17:43

I don’t see why not? They were making rose and violet creams before they invented emulsifiers 😊
