Gary Davies is on tomorrow for Vern, thank his no more Richie

Desolatewardrobe · 16/11/2023 22:36

Every time I hear him he seems to be in tears. I think it’s a remarkable thing to be doing and I hope it’s being done safely. But I do like him - had gone off him for the sexting but that is so long ago now.

CrushingOnRubies · 16/11/2023 22:47

Has the radio on in the background at work. He's doing incredible however Ritchie should stick to travel and not be a full time dj. He did a 1hr of strictly music the other Saturday and it was dire

I remember the auction back when Terry did the breakfast show. Even as a kid I thought it was the most bonkers thing ever. Thousands of pounds for a round of golf with some celeb

These challenges are nuts. He can’t give up, so he’s at risk of causing himself permanent damage.
When did we get to the point that people would only donate if someone else was suffering and risking life long damage?

This

doodlyfiddly · 16/11/2023 23:03

I love Vernon and didn't do my expected switchover to Ken.
I also listen to Radio 2 every day.
I don't particularly like some of the presenters/shows, but other stations with adverts drive me mad!
However - I am getting fed up with the constant droning on about the same thing. Do we really need a 4-day takeover for one challenge? With every dj banging on & on about it?
They do it constantly now. At the moment it is Vernon's challenge, before that it was Radio 2 live for weeks on end, before that bloody Eurovision. Who decided all Radio 2 listeners give a crap about Eurovision?
It's like the producers need a hook to just keep going on & on about.
I'm a miserable cow at the moment, but the repetition is pissing me off!

Angrycat2768 · 16/11/2023 23:15

I switch between radio 2 and 4 through the day while Im working but like Vernon. I did like Ken but he has been easily replaced. I must be missing something because I can't spot Scott Mills sarcasm at all. I just find him really boring. A lot of the time I listen to a radio 4 podcast when he's on and switch back for Sara Cox. I do admire Vernon for running but I can't imagine how exhausted he is, and then to have to talk to someone every hour on the radio!

LlynTegid · 17/11/2023 07:16

Glad to read how much has been raised. Support the cause, though I don't watch the main Children in Need programme.

LucyTeatime · 17/11/2023 07:23

Didn't they nearly finish off one of the female presenters the other year?

Dancingonaslice · 17/11/2023 07:26

I get it’s tough but he’s fit and been training and tbh the ego boost and good publicity he gets from it following years away from the spotlight after his seedy sexting drama will be worth every blister for him.
Thats what I hate. Its not about fundraising for some of them it’s about self promotion and improving their public image.

I dont like him one bit. I wish he wasn’t back on mainstream media.

Spudlet · 17/11/2023 07:34

I really like VK. I never got into KB at all, found I couldn’t hear him properly in the car so I never listened! I much prefer Vernon. I’ve also really enjoyed listening to how he’s getting on, I’m a runner and a sports massage therapist with a couple of ultra-running clients, so I find it interesting.

In terms of him doing this, he seems to have a good base level of fitness before he started training, he’s got good support and he’s trained well. He’ll be fine. What he’s doing is a very tough challenge but it’s doable with the right support, which he seems to have.

wited · 17/11/2023 07:38

I've not heard of this but can't stand him. If he was a toffee he'd eat himself.

The cheating rat.

MyCircumference · 17/11/2023 07:39

so much coverage
i remember Sara Cox did a dance off - that was amazing
i dont really know what Vernon is doing, a marathon i gather
i hope he has trained

OllieCollieWoo · 16/11/2023 16:32

I'm addicted to the updates. It's annoying to have to put up with R2 in-between. Crikes at Scott Mills ' when did he get so boring???

I hope they are filming for a TV programme later. He spent yesterday evening running to where we live so that made a grey day more interesting, though we didnt go and see him as was working. If it was Jezza Vine cycling round London I wouldn't give a fuck.

Reading social media loads of negatives about VK and not much positive stuff. So I'm obviously a minority or we have to support him secretly?

With you on Scott Mills. Was he ever an exciting broadcaster? He sounds so BORED, and as if every utterance is sarcastic.

He's still not bad enough for me to want Steve Wright back. But surely there must have been someone better?

Someone on another thread said the sextingvthing involved both Vernon and Tess, so maybe they were into kinky stuff/threesomes when they were younger. No one really knows. If his wife has let it go its a bit silly for other people to still go on about it. You could say all charitable giving is an ego boost, because it makes the person giving feel virtuous.

Those auctions were started in Terry's day. It is always like this in the week running up to CIN. My own experience of fundraising is that you have to remind a huge number of people to donate and remind them many times, even those who are happy to donate. Another equally huge number hate being reminded either because they've already donated or they don't want to donate.

Doesn't bother me because I can't stand Zoe Ball as I find her irritating and feel no connection with her, so I listen to R4 instead.

Is that the Terry who used to take a payment for presenting it ?

Makes me glad I've not got a TV when this annual begging fest comes around , that and Comic Relief proper twist me melon

PuppyMonkey · 17/11/2023 08:28

I can usually take or leave these celebrity challenges, and haven’t watched CIN in donkeys but I must admit I caught Vernon on Jezza’s show yesterday and he sounded about 150 years old and like he was going to drop. I’m now quite invested to see if he makes it - I’ve missed what time he’s supposed to get there, anyone know?

lollipoprainbow · 17/11/2023 08:40

He's done well but playing 'bring him home' this morning on radio 2 felt a bit over dramatic !!

lollipoprainbow · 17/11/2023 08:43

NigelHarmansNewWife · 16/11/2023 18:04

I'd like Gambo back on POTP - can do without Steve Wright's endless "funny" comments and crap jokes. I liked Popmaster when Ken presented the morning show, but it doesn't translate well to TV where it's slow and dull.

Me too, steve wright has totally ruined POTP for me.

NCTDN · 17/11/2023 08:45

It's in interesting reading about the lack of love for Vernon on here. I think he's great and thought that was general consensus.

the80sweregreat · 17/11/2023 08:45

I really dislike Steve wright
How his managed to worm his way back to Saturday afternoons with pick of the pops is annoying. He sings over the end of songs sometimes and it makes me feel a bit stabby !!
Can't bear his feeble jokes either

the80sweregreat · 17/11/2023 08:47

People ( on here) don't like Vernon Kay because he cheated ( sex texting or something I think ?)
Tess was on with Sara cox last night and it didn't sound like her at all! Was confused as to who was speaking at first!

blueberry1976 · 17/11/2023 08:56

I'll just leave this here

Mumsnet hates pretty much everyone, to be fair...

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 17/11/2023 09:27

Not even close to as annoying as the (what feels like) 6 weeks of blanket coverage around Eurovision. That was unbearable.

NotFastButFurious · 17/11/2023 09:53

I didn't know he was doing it until I saw some posts on twitter yesterday (don't often listen to Radio 2) but some of the responses are here are a bit over-dramatic! It's 115 miles over 4 days so not much more than a marathon distance a day, and assuming he's done some training and he's got support crews, physios etc he's not exactly going to do himself any long term damage (apart from maybe mental trauma!).
