Does anyone have a wool duvet?

We need a new duvet (obviously this is quite a boring post!) and I am a bit overwhelmed by options. I have seen wool duvets, which I didn't know existed, but seem like a great option on lots of levels - sustainable, British, natural fibres etc etc etc

Does anyone have one? Can you recommend a brand? Are they good? Or any other recommendations for duvets gratefully received!

I have a wool duvet from Soak and Sleep. It's OK, but it doesn't drape round you the way a synthetic or feather duvet does. It feels stiffer in comparison, and it is heavier. I wouldn't buy one again TBH.

FirstFallopians · 14/11/2023 22:22

Yep, we got the lightest tog, non-washable option from Woolroom and it’s great. We use it from April until October, I like that it’s heavier than hollow fibre and much more sustainable.

We have a feather duvet for the winter which I love the sensation of, but I’m not sure I’d get another knowing what I know now about how the feathers are procured :/

Well it's almost unanimous! How have I missed the existence of wool duvets?!! I think it does sound perfect, I'm a cold person but sweaty due to peri and some meds that I'm on, so can struggle a bit to be the right temperature at night.

Woolroom have a good sale on just now, the deluxe one has money off it, but for some reason the baavet ones appeal more... I'm not off to look at alpaca ones!

Yes it’s a lot heavier which I like, lovely and warm. I use a lighter down one in height of summer though

Summerhillsquare · 14/11/2023 22:43

Mine was slumberdown on eBay for 55 quid and I am in love with it! Improved my sleep and so comfortable.

RailwayAnna · 14/11/2023 22:44

We have a wool one - I’m not sure if the brand. It was from TK Maxx. I love it; it is warm and quite heavy. In the winter we put a down duvet over the top of it. I also have a heated throw on my side if the bed.

(We have a VERY cold house)

Sconehenge · 14/11/2023 22:46

I loved my wool duvet and the idiot dry cleaner destroyed it by washing it instead of dry cleaning 😫😫😫😫

Northby · 14/11/2023 22:56

I have the Woolroom washable lightweight then we plonk wool blankets over the top. Means it’s very easy to adjust temperature. I sweat with anything synthetic but wool has been brilliant. I even bought the woolroom mattress topper to match!
Wool pillows are very uncomfortable though…

HundredMilesAnHour · 14/11/2023 22:59

I have/had a Baavet one but I didn't like it. It was too flat for me. I like a big puffy duvet to snuggle into which I only found out when I bought the Baavet. 😝

Fozzleyplum · 14/11/2023 23:05

We have the Woolroom clip together duvets. They are a real game changer - warm in winter, cool in Summer.

We also have a Woolroom mattress, topper and pillows and I have never slept so well. Can you tell I'm a fan?!

JollyJolene · 14/11/2023 23:26

Does anyone with asthma or allergies have one? Any reactions?

What are the pillows like?

Ours is from Decon Duvets and I love it. Came labeled with the name of the lady who made it! It's not fluffy like feather or synthetic but I like a slightly heavier weight and I've found it's better for temperature regulation.

SomethingOnce · 15/11/2023 00:15

We love our wool Devon Duvets (DD has a wool pillow too).

timtam23 · 15/11/2023 00:20

Another vote for Baavet. I love my Baavet duvet. It's from the bargain bin, I think it was slightly heavier than it should have been. It's fantastic in the winter but it's ok in warmer weather as well because the wool doesn't overheat you in the way that synthetics or feathers do.

witchypaws · 15/11/2023 01:21

I have a woolroom one I asked for a few years ago for Christmas
My dad "wool? Duvet? Never heard of the like"
After he bought it for me, prodded it a bit in a dad like fashion, he went off and bought himself one and adores it Grin

fozwomble · 15/11/2023 01:34

I've got one from Dunelm. Reasonably priced and I love it. It's perfect year round and is a bit heavier feeling than a synthetic one so feels reassuring. I have asthma so can't do feathers but wool is no issue for me.

MontagueLeo · 15/11/2023 02:15

I’ve got two summerweight Devon Duvets which can be tied together to make a winter duvet.

I’ve had them since March and I love them ❤️

A single summerweight duvet was perfect in the warmer months and the two together keep me nice and warm without being suffocating through the winter. The duvets can be washed and each summerweight duvet (king size) will apparently fit in a domestic washing machine, although I haven’t tried this yet.

Devon Duvets can be bought from John Lewis or direct from the Devon Duvets website.

I wouldn’t go back to polyester (too hot) or down (very expensive and cruel)

Princessfluffy · 15/11/2023 05:41

I love mine from soak and sleep but I hated the wool pillows.

Princessfluffy · 15/11/2023 05:42

They are great for menopause and good for if there are two of you who like different temperatures.

whirlyhead · 15/11/2023 05:47

I have a couple of vegan duvets from duvet hog which are great. Fluffy, light and warm and made from recycled bottles. I have a wool one as well but much prefer the duvet hog ones.

user701 · 15/11/2023 05:53

I have an all seasons one from soak and sleep. I have each section in a different cover to help regulate temperature.

its definitely better in terms of temperature regulation. It is however very heavy (which hurts my ankles which over extend) and soooooo bloody noisy. It make a lot of noise when you move which is not great if your other half is a light sleeper.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 15/11/2023 05:59

I have a Baavet one, it’s the best duvet I have ever had.

PurBal · 15/11/2023 06:00

We have 2 woolroom ones and one we got from HOF. Would recommend. We don’t buy anything else now.

PurBal · 15/11/2023 06:07

@whirlyhead if they’re made of plastic aren’t they incredibly sweaty? We chose wool because synthetic duvets don’t breathe or help regulate temperature and I don’t like down.
