Dyson has broke again! Looking at a shark

Any recommendations ?
Just used the Henry, I have a herniated disc and am also pregnant, the Henry is amazing but my back cannot handle lugging it around, I'm in so much pain now !

I hear good things about shark hoovers, any recommendations for the best cordless one ?

My cordless shark is pretty rubbish if im honest, the battery life is annoying and it constantly clogs. The corded ones are brilliant though!

RailwayAnna · 14/11/2023 09:49

My cordless shark is ok for a quick whizz over hard floors. Not that good on carpets, though. I have a corded shark and a Miele for those. (The Miele was an error - the bags are really expensive!)

crankit · 14/11/2023 09:50

Ahhh!!
Okay what's the next best cordless anyone know ?

Sebo are excellent

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/11/2023 09:52

Although what’s wrong with the Dyson? Assume it’s out of warranty but I’ve had a Dyson repaired a couple of times )or replaced the offending spare part) and it’s as good as new each time. At a fraction of the cost.

Mindymomo · 14/11/2023 09:58

We have a dog so need a good hover, so we have a Shark corded hover for downstairs and a G-tech cordless hover upstairs, both are great, G-Tech wouldn’t handle the amount of hair/dust downstairs but is fine for upstairs, so depends on how dirty/dusty your house is. Shark is way better than Dyson, only thing I don’t like is dust collection isn’t very big and we have to empty it every time it’s used.

DRS1970 · 14/11/2023 09:59

I have lower back problems, including two herniated discs, and I own and use a Shark IF130UK (I believe) cordless stick vacuum. The vacuum is brilliant, and I manage to use it it easily despite my back problems. There are no bags, the filters are all washable, as it the front felt roller. The main brush roller is also easy to access to remove hair and threads. The battery lasts long enough to do all the floors in our medium sized 3 bed house, about 20 minutes runtime I would guess. They make a thing out of the flexology feature, but they are really egging the fact it folds for storage. That's all I think.

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 14/11/2023 10:10

My cordless Shark is my worst ever purchase. Constantly clogged up. Never again. We now buy old second hand Dysons which seem better than new ones. Corded though.

This.

Do Dyson still offer a 5 year guarantee? They were happy to replace the turbo brush head on mine 4 years and 364 days after I bought it, saving me £60, although that was about 7 years ago now.

New born babies are less delicate than the cordless shark I had. (Binned it!)

Someone else should be doing the hoovering. Why are you attempting it whilst pregnant and with a slipped disc?

SisterhoodNotCisterhood · 14/11/2023 10:25

I adore my Shark but it's corded. Every single one of these posts goes the same way. Cordless Sharks are generally hated with just a few fans, those with corded one profess their undying love for them and a few people throw in other brands. I've tried the cordless Dyson and Shark and neither impressed. They gave the impression that they're better for small job use, like a DustBuster.

PickAChew · 14/11/2023 10:28

DH was looking at Shark. What he discovered was that there is no consistency in them and how and where they are manufactured so they get to a certain age that isn't particularly old and there is no guarantee that you will be able to get parts for them. At least Dyson, for all their degrees of crapness, are reparable for quite a long time.

I also have weak wrists and back problems and found the various Sharks, corded and cordless, that I looked at, quite heavy and cumbersome. If your dyson is an upright and you like using an upright, then I agree that the Sebo X series are fab on carpet, not so much on hard floors.

crankit · 14/11/2023 10:29

Arghh confused ! Really can't be doing with a corded one, nightmare for the stairs too.
I'm thinking shall I just get a new dyson ? Looking at the v8.

Our current one is constantly saying it's blocked, but it isn't it's been stripped down and there's nothing there. I think daily use for about 5 years twice a day has finally done it in

Dh would Hoover but he doesn't do it when it needs doing ! I have sycamore seeds all over the house with two kids treading them everywhere, the toddler eats them if I don't get them up in time lol

May seem obvious, but are the filters clean?

crankit · 14/11/2023 10:29

We have all hard floor downstairs and carpet upstairs so I need one that's good on both, which the Dyson is to be honest

Yeah clean them when it tells me I need too, put a brand new one in and it's still saying it's blocked

Which dyson? I'm after a corded one and I'm looking at reconditioned ones

AuntieJoyce · 14/11/2023 12:23

Yes I recently got the v11 animal it was £250 from the eBay Dyson refurb site

i absolutely love it totally converted

Saxendi · 14/11/2023 12:29

Anyone got the Dyson v11?

Yes, it's great BUT just lately it is doing the blockage light and noise and have taken it apart and there is no blockage. It's driving me bonkers

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/11/2023 14:12

Have you taken the dyson apart?
Preferably ask someone else to obviously but all spare parts are available on their website and customer service is brilliant( often sending parts out free)
Most common problem is a blocked filter which needs washing
Between myself and my 3 sons we have all kinds of dyson products( I don't work for them)
I understand the back problems as I'm disabled and my son has herniated discs too

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/11/2023 14:13

I have a v7 with the Motor head
