Friend's 60th - Present ideas please

Friend is 60 and we're meeting up but I have no idea, and very little time, to think of anything present wise.

She is comfortably off so isn't really in need of anything. Likes yoga, walking and reading but has all of the gear, Audible etc. Doesn't really drink and is healthy so won't like sugary stuff. Jewellery/clothes too personal plus she has expensive tastes so won't wear a cheap scarf for example. Budget about £30. Any ideas please?

Go to a local florist. Pick out some lovely blooms and greenery and ask them to make up a hand held bunch for you. Add a card with your special message on.

Cashmere gloves?
Luxury disposable items such as a beautiful Heals or White Company candle, or REN, Liz Earle or Occitane bath stuff?
Does she journal? A beautiful notebook is a good present. Or a beautiful edition of a new novel by an author she likes.

Bulbs and a pot, plant for the garden eg hellebore or fruit tree/bush if she’s a gardener, cashmere socks, Turtledoves cashmere fingerless gloves are great for walkers, Christmas candle from St Eval, make her a birthday cake, OS map with her photo in walking gear on front.

I am very like your friend. Definitely nothing that's not consumable, I'd say. Lovely bunch of flowers as above, one really good bottle of wine (or real champagne), selection of really expensive bits from a local small deli like dried mushrooms and top of the range tinned/bottled tuna, lovely handmade soaps from local posh shop.

balltraponthecote · 13/11/2023 15:14

She sounds similar to me, I don't drink because of a health condition and I was recently bought this:

www.fortnumandmason.com/fortnum-s-sparkling-tea-0-abv

It's delicious, and with some lovely crackers and cheese would make a great gift.

Lifeinlists · 13/11/2023 15:21

I was given a L'Occitane gift bag with various mini things. It was really nice and introduced me to products I'd never tried before.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/11/2023 15:36

I'm similar to your friend, I'd always like a nice houseplant in a cache pot.
Flowers are ok but they die too soon.

A Chanel compact mirror. £35 at Boots online.

Turmerictolly · 13/11/2023 18:28

Some great suggestions, thank you all. Will start googling.

Bought a lovely spiral hardback notebook for a friend today, cover is a William Morris design.
Occitane stuff is lovely, as mentioned above.
Some lovely fingerless mittens around.
A bottle of good olive oil?

AutumnCrow · 13/11/2023 18:44

I'm on here for the lovely scarf suggestion Grin

I am now 60+ and I was very thrilled with my gift of a Paul Weller album (vinyl).

Butteredtoast55 · 13/11/2023 18:44

I'm 60 imminently and, honestly, I don't want more stuff. I love flowers but would also be delighted with a Neal's Yard or L'Occitane handwash.

Phineyj · 13/11/2023 19:04

Sweaty Betty voucher.

It won't buy a clothing item (well it might in a sale) but it will encourage her to treat herself.

Their stuff is pricey but lasts ages and is v nice to exercise in.

FloofCloud · 13/11/2023 19:12

I did a word cloud picture for my friends 60th and framed it in a lovely sparkly frame I knew she'd like.
It's really lovely to read all those lovely words in your word cloud art and you can pick an image of something she likes

My favourite at that age was a plant/ rosebuds for the garden or a nice pot..never have enough

Wolvesart · 13/11/2023 19:33

There are a few ideas on here I wouldn’t go for. The standout one is stuff from the local deli. To qualify as a proper gift that would need to be a special hamper. Vouchers are really not for a special birthday.

The nicest non conventional gifts I received were events - group of us going for afternoon tea. A meet up for a meal, a visit to a gallery.

Personalised card and bottle of bubbly or chocs. I’m healthy too, but chocs are nice

MistyMountainTop · 13/11/2023 19:36

I'd love some very, very expensive balsamic vinegar - 12 or 20 years old

Ditto.
Especially a word cloud picture.....

I would prefer something consumable (yes, I know your friends doesn't but) chocs, wine, naice biscuits, definitely voucher for afternoon tea or (if people were clubbing together) a special restaurant I might not normally go for. Tickets for something I'd like (again, tricky as tend to be expensive and you'd have to know when I was free), plants for the garden or fresh flowers.

rollerblind · 13/11/2023 21:51

Jo Malone hand wash/hand cream. Or Aesops. A little bit of luxury...

MinnieCauldwell · 14/11/2023 08:32

No one needs more stuff at 60. How about some nice hot cloth cleanser from Tropic? Liz Earle not so good these days since she sold the compani and ingredients changed. Or a manicure or pedicure at local salon? Those are things I would like.

boudiccathecat · 14/11/2023 08:43

A vote for no ornaments.

I’d like silver earrings a candle or plants/flowers or you can take me to the theatre/ concert

RailwayAnna · 14/11/2023 08:59

I think making your own voucher with a “walk and afternoon tea” offer, or “gallery and bistro lunch” would be lovely.

hellosolly · 14/11/2023 09:02

I'm this age. Consumables only! I have enough stuff.

Hedjwitch · 14/11/2023 09:03

A plant for the garden...a lovely rose to commemorate her day?

I love this idea! I will be stealing it 😀
