When does CBeebies stuff become babyish?

Just wondering because DD is nearly 5 and she still likes a lot of the shows she liked when she was 1! Hasn't outgrown Hey Duggee etc yet. I would say the only programme she doesn't like anymore because it's babyish is Teletubbies. What sort of age do they move on? And in fact what do they actually move on to? I can't imagine not being in the world of preschooler TV!

Well at 9 even mine still would watch a few programmes from there to be honest.
It certainly took a lot later than 5 for her to reduce watching cbeebies.

stargirl1701 · 10/11/2023 10:56

Mine were around 7 when they started dipping into CBBC. They still watch CBeebies when ill though.

Nineteendays · 10/11/2023 10:57

Probably 7 for mine

My 4 year old still loves Cbeebies - Hey Duggee, Bluey, Colour Blocks (and bloody Bing!) are a staple of our mornings!

BertieBotts · 10/11/2023 11:01

It's designed for up to 6 but it really doesn't matter :) Let her watch whichever she prefers.

CoodleMoodle · 10/11/2023 11:04

Mine are 9 and 5 and still watch some stuff on Cbeebies.

DD(9) has never really bothered with moving onto CBBC (except Horrible Histories which I forced on her anyway Wink), and mostly watches YouTube. But if her brother is watching Hey Duggee or Bluey, she's there (so am I tbh)! Last night they were watching Octonauts together.

purpleme12 · 10/11/2023 11:05

Exactly

Ozgirl75 · 10/11/2023 11:27

My 13 year old and I (45) would happily watch Bluey 😀
But in general I would say they stopped watching CBeebies around 5/6 ish although they’d dip back for faves like Octonauts. Then they moved onto shows like Inbestigators, So Awkward etc.

Robinbuildsbears · 10/11/2023 11:31

The Cbeebies birthday song says "are you 5, 6, 7, or maybe more?" So I always felt that once you hit "maybe more" you were pushing it. Although I had younger brothers and so watched it well into my teens.

Ozgirl75 · 10/11/2023 11:33

In fact I reckon it was more like 7/8 they stopped CBeebies. Apart from Horrible Histories which was from about 5 and we all loved.

purpleme12 · 10/11/2023 11:33

Horrible Histories is CBBC not cbeebies

Fionaville · 11/11/2023 00:25

My eldest still watched it until he was about 8, because of the youngest and still enjoyed it. The youngest moved onto Nick junior and the Disney channel around age 4. Sophia the first and Doc McStuffins mainly, if they are still a thing 😅 By 7 they were all watching 'older kids' stuff on Cartoon network and Nickelodeon etc.

BuryBren · 11/11/2023 00:30

CBeebies make TV for 1-6 year olds CBBC is 6-12s …

AdoringDavidAttenborough · 11/11/2023 00:31

My daughter definitely still likes it at 6. The CBeebies Shakespeare adaptations are really good (although she also likes Supertato). I have weaned her onto the odd nature/ science documentary though.

Alizzle · 11/11/2023 02:54

At 5 my ds was still watching cbeebies. After that he went to scooby doo and 90s power rangers on Netflix. Oh, sonic, Tom and Jerry as well. Tbh we steered hi. To stuff we enjoyed. He's 11 now and I miss scooby doo, now it's Dr who and you tubers

TakeMe2Insanity · 11/11/2023 03:10

Around 7. At 6 some of the stuff on cbbc is over their heads.

PartnersInCrime · 11/11/2023 07:07

We all love Bluey - 10, 15 and 40+ Grin

Holdyournoseandthinkofchocolate · 11/11/2023 07:11

Is Octonauts CBeebies? My 11 year old still likes that.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 11/11/2023 07:11

My nearly 7 year old still loves cbeebies. I have wondered the same as you OP but I figure she will move on in time. She is quite sensitive and doesn't like scary stuff so she may be on cbeebies for a while.

youdontneedtopoo · 11/11/2023 07:14

I have an 8, 5 and 3 year old and there are only a few shows on Cbeebies they will watch, and even then only occasionally.
Youngest likes Veggiesaurs and Bing, other two like Horrible Histories, but apart from that it's CBBC now or just a film.
I think older two are just bored of it as they've watched it since they were toddlers, and youngest wants to do whatever the older ones do 😊
I miss the days of Old Jack's Boat and Ballamory but really quite pleased I never have to listen to another episode of Bluey again!

WindTheMummyUpWindHerBackAgain · 11/11/2023 07:21

My eldest is 6 and he’s started to watch a few CBBC things but he still loves most of CBeebies. Even things I put on for his baby sister like Teletubbies and in the night garden, not that he’d tell his friends that!

brassbells · 11/11/2023 07:41

DS would go back to watching TV programmes or much younger books/toys when something stressful was happening like hospital stays or changing schools to high school (so at 10/11)

We just let him "regress" for a couple of weeks as we knew it was his way of coping with the change

It only lasted a couple of weeks

FluffyDiplodocus · 11/11/2023 08:00

My 7yo (almost 8) has just rediscovered Hey Duggee on iPlayer and goes on the occasional Bluey binge. I’d rather that than some of the garbage on Netflix tbh!

TeenDivided · 11/11/2023 08:05

This is a really heartening thread. I was honestly expecting loads of replies saying 'my DC is so advanced they are 5 and moved from CBeebies when they were 3' a bit like people tend to do on film rating threads. Nice to see people letting children be children.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 11/11/2023 08:09

My DD made the transition to CBBC programmes (Blue Peter, anything Stevie B related etc) about 6.5 years old. But whatever works for your kid is probably ok. Given we can enjoy Hey Duggee as adults not reason kids can't enjoy it to an older age too.
