Bruise on leg?!

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 09/11/2023 22:08

Over the years I do sometimes get an ache in my legs when walking a lot (for me - I'm fairly sedentary) . I have in the past had insoles to help with this.

Well the ache is back and just looked at my leg and there's a bruise right where it aches. Any idea why?! I wear leggings a lot and don't look at my legs so hadn't noticed it before.

Any idea what it is? Or one of those things? Will it go away? Is it okay to rub/massage it?

I do tend to being anxious so happy to be told its just one of those things.

Obviously whatever you Google makes out you're dying 🙄

Probably nothing, but go and see your doctor if you're worried.

My mum had aches and bruising and tiredness for a long time before she went to the doctor - turned out she had leukemia.

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 09/11/2023 22:31

😮 Oh gosh your poor mum.

This is only one bruise (I think I might get my husband to check now)

I am worried I'll be wasting drs time for "just a bruise". But now I'm more worried.

OK no other bruises but I do have cracked skin on soles of my feet (ongoing separate issues!)

Just was going to get my husband to rub some cream into where I was achey and he said it was bruised!

Sorry, didn't mean to worry you. If you don't want to go to the GP you could sign up for a health research study like this one that was in the news this week: https://ourfuturehealth.org.uk/..Then you'll get blood test results, as well as helping with the research.

We’re bringing together up to five million people to develop new ways to prevent, detect and treat diseases.

Aching legs after walking a lot
One bruise
Dry, cracked skin on the soles of you feet

Of course get yourself checked out if you're worried at all, but nothing you've mentioned sounds unusual or concerning to me (not a doctor).

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 09/11/2023 22:44

Funnily enough Ive signed up to them - but I think the only blood test result you get directly is cholesterol I'm not sure you get feedback otherwise. My appointment is near Christmas!

Sips it's the bruise from nowhere that's got me puzzled! But yes it would be reassuring if it's "one of those things" to get a bruise from an achey muscle rather than from a bash.

This

OP do you have health anxiety

fisherhatesgravel · 09/11/2023 22:47

Sounds like phlebitis. My mum suffers from it and pretty sure I have it too. I have two on my calves at the moment and they fade after a week or two - won't attach photo as legs need a shave 🤣

Alifestylechoice · 09/11/2023 22:47

Really you don’t need to see a doctor about a tiny bruise. What are you concerned about?

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 09/11/2023 22:48

Not normally.

Just not used to unexplained bruises! And then googling them hasnt helped hemce asking Real People on here.

If its one of those things I'll ignore it!

I am honestly more than happy not to see a Dr! Was just checking that I don't need to after googling "unexplained bruise"!!

this is thoughtless. The op has one tiny bruise. Your mum had ‘aches and bruising and tiredness for a long time’. It’s not comparable

Cas112 · 09/11/2023 22:50

I'm amazed this is the first time in your life you've had an unexplained bruise 😂

nether · 09/11/2023 22:51

Unexplained bruising should aways be checked by a doctor - especially if you have one or more of the following symptoms with it:

  • other unexplained bleeding (gums, nosebleeds, change to periods)
  • excessive fatigue
  • bone or joint pain
  • breathlessness or wheeziness
  • night sweats

GP should get a full blood count done

Alifestylechoice · 09/11/2023 22:51

@Cas112 too right I’m covered in them.

oh grow up. Unexplained BRUISING not one small tiny bruise

TheChosenTwo · 09/11/2023 22:53

I’m usually sporting at least one mystery bruise. I don’t think it’s worth a doctors time for literally one random bruise.

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 09/11/2023 22:54

Ha no dont normally have unexplained bruising! Probably due to a boring sedentary life!

I occasionally bash my arms but I know when I've done that.

This is where I've got an ache/feels like muscle ache hence why I googled not knowing if that can cause a bruise and of course googling anything is never good!

I'm not worried about the actual bruise - it's not like I've been beaten up or anything! More why I have one and if its symptomatic of anything else.

I've had covid and chest infections a fair bit the last 2 years do maybe I am more anxious?!

Knowing the symptoms of leukaemia is important - it's very treatable these days, but only if caught early.

OP appears to be reporting two symptoms (the aches and the unexplained bruising). I'd say that is enough to warrant checking. FBC is a quick, cheap and routine test, and it can rule leukaemia out.

Blood cancer charities know they face an uphill task in getting the symptoms better known (because they are fairly non-specific). Also leukaemias (even the chronic ones) usually start smouldering only a few weeks before symptoms appear.

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 09/11/2023 22:57

I had a suspected blood clot last year (turned out to be another lingering chest infection) so I guess that's why I wondered as that was a worrying 3 days.

Maybe I do have health anxiety?!?!!? I didn't think I did.

OP posts:
Alifestylechoice · 09/11/2023 23:00

Sure @nether an ache after waking a lot noticed after the last few years + one bruise. Logical conclusion = leukaemia

SgtJuneAckland · 09/11/2023 23:02

Is it just me that gets bruises all the time and rarely remembers how they happened?! Usually shins, hips, forearms, I bump into stuff a lot so just assume it's that

Alifestylechoice · 09/11/2023 23:04

@SgtJuneAckland ive always bruised easily. Have loads all the time

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 09/11/2023 23:05

I think I must have a boring life!

I usually notice if I've bruised as it hurts when I knock something!

I think I'll leave it a bit longer before getting too worried.
