I have put a spare, electric blanket on top of my sofa cushions, throw over the top tucking it in and also have my electric throw over me. Currently sat here in my little, heated cocoon marvelling at my own genius. In your face British gas, I won't be freezing my toes off this year, pahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣

No real point to this thread, just thought I'd share to inspire others.

I have a fan on all night. Last bit of the menopause.

Me too except the menopause is several years behind me 😯. The return of the hot flushes is not appreciated.

Blinkityblonk · 09/11/2023 22:05

I went through the electric underblanket phase, the overblanket/throw phase and now I'm back on the hot water bottles. I work from home and often have one behind my back in the day. At night I huggle one and it sends me to sleep!

Blinkityblonk · 09/11/2023 22:06

Plus I can throw my hottie out if I overheat, as it's a delicate balance between too cold and too hot (menopausal). All cotton/woolen covers too, stops sweating. I think I've cracked it!

Make up a hot water bottle and stick it in the bed after dinner. Lovely and toasty by the time you get in.

Though it would be stone cold if you are a Northerner like me.
We have our Dinner at midday 😉

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/11/2023 22:08

Good for you!

I’m on the sofa under a heated throw using my heated shiatsu massager on my shoulder cricks. I’m toasty, largely uncricked and should turn in.

maximist · 09/11/2023 22:09

My electric blanket is plugged into a smart plug, it switches on at 9pm and off at 12.30am unless I tell Alexa to turn it off earlier. I no longer have cold feet in bed.

I invested in an electric throw a few weeks ago, I feel the cold terribly and really suffered last winter. Oh my its a game changer, have barely had the heating on yet and sometime I am too warm. Totally worth it.

Where's it from?

Confused by "flatware" isn't that just American for cutlery?

I assume it’s an autocorrect on flatmate.

There's an expiry date on hot water bottles?😮 I've got one that's over 30 years old, still going strong.

Yes I think it’s 2 years. It tells you on the bottle itself. The rubber gets weaker and is susceptible to bursting.

My friend still has scarring on her feet from where her hot water bottle burst and spilt all over her feet. It was the hospital that told her about the rubber going weak thing.

Martin Lewis also made reference to it the other night in his show when he was talking about ways to save money on your bills

I love my electric blanket. Didn't cost me anything either cos it was an unwanted gift that my Grandma got one Christmas and said she'd never use it. The only downside is, it's only a single one and I have a double bed, but at least if I do get too hot I can always roll over to the cold side of the bed. It was also a godsend during my miscarriage for helping with all the cramping

Flatmate...

KissTheRains · 09/11/2023 23:21

I have cheap rectangular sleeping bags opened out to be square and flat. They're insulated and designed to reflect heat back but have a soft and cosy underside.
Bung one of those over me, hot water bottle underneath and I'm super warm super quick. 😁

MainlyOnThePlain · 09/11/2023 23:21

I swear by the old-fashioned heavy woollen blankets you can pick up in charity shops for a couple of quid. Arrange over your knees on the sofa, place a medium sized dog on top and you're set for the night.

VintageBlossomHill · 09/11/2023 23:22

This sounds like a nightmare to menopausal me as the hot flashes are killing me.

A luxury tip is putting the hair dryer nozzle under your duvet before getting in to bed. So toasty.

When me and dh before he was h first lived together it was in a freezing cold flat. We had ice on the inside of the aluminium framed windows. I used to switch the little fan heater we had onto full, and lift up the duvet a bit so the heat could come under. I can still remember the feeling now, it was bliss!

Mumof1andacat · 09/11/2023 23:30

Since having ds 10 years ago, I am the hottest person ever. I walk round in tshits as jumpers make me hot in the winter. I can't manage a big winter coat. I wear a jacket. I sweat just walking to work and find the quilt at night makes me too hot. I would love to be cozy, but I would sweat too much :(

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/11/2023 23:33

I have a Spaniel

Userxyd · 09/11/2023 23:38

Love electric blankets!! Plus brushed control bedsheets make a world of difference. I haven't even got my blanket out yet cos the sheet and duvet cover are so cosy.
Electric blanket trick also works if you're outside when it's getting cold as long as you've got an extension lead to plug it in 🤓

NotSureYet86 · 09/11/2023 23:42

No one’s gloomy or complaining while the flatware’s entertaining

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/11/2023 00:08

I have a Westie! He earns his keep in the winter

rubydoobydoo · 10/11/2023 00:15

Ah I love this level of cosy - and a few cats normally pile on top of me too - but it spoils it a bit when I can see my breath in front of me as we have a bloody cold house!

I also recommend hot chocolate with a good glug of spiced rum in.

My flatware used to iron the bed then get in it.

Where can I get this flatware ?!

And me. Still, they're keeping the gas bill down #everycloud
