Shepherds Pie, Cottage Pie …

So it’s shepherds pie if it’s lamb mince and cottage pie if it’s beef mince, but what is it if it’s turkey or chicken mince? 😅

Coop Pie.

Chasingsquirrels · 07/11/2023 17:13

I make it with turkey mince, usually just called cottage pie though.

NorthernLiner · 07/11/2023 17:14

Are you listening to Radio two? Or is Sara Cox reading Mumsnet at work?

GigiAnnna · 07/11/2023 17:33

I don't think chicken or turkey mince would be quite right for that, it's too dry.

Revolting, by the sound of it.

TerfTalking · 07/11/2023 17:35

If it’s minced chicken or Turkey with mash on top, the correct name is Revolting.

light hearted, Sorry.

each to their own. Though.

PrimalLass · 07/11/2023 17:35

I read one that shepherd's pie has mash, like furrowed fields, and cottage pie has sliced potatoes, like a tiled roof.

I just call it all shepherd's cottage pie!

Never tried chicken or turkey mince so wouldn't make a pie with them. It doesn't sound nice though (texture wise, not taste).

A travesty.

BitofaStramash · 07/11/2023 17:39

If it contains poultry mince then it's Rank Pie 🤢

ShutTheDoorBabe · 07/11/2023 17:39

I don't like any of them so don't eat them myself but I've always wondered why it's called cottage pie when it has nothing to do with cottages or cottaging?

Dartmoorcheffy · 07/11/2023 17:39

I'm from Lancashire and my mum always used minced beef but still called it shepherd's pie.

Wow never knew this but I love it.

Op if you make a chicken or a turkey pie, please do not use mince and cover with mash. No no no no no.

Instead, dice the white and brown poultry meat, and use chopped veg such as mushroom, carrot and leek, and then top with puff pastry. Trust me.

Yours truly, a pie enthusiast

TheSunAlwaysShinesOnATerf · 07/11/2023 18:12

Wouldn't they be Henny Penny Pie and Turkey Lurkey pie 😂

verabarbleen · 07/11/2023 19:25

My very fussy two year old tried and ate cottage pie this weekend! It's just pie apparently it's not potatoes and it's not mince or cheese or anything it's just "pie" 😂

MrsMitford3 · 07/11/2023 19:29

I make it with turkey mince and just say Shephard's pie.

To make it worse I actually use a Cottage Pie recipe (which is delicious) but somehow Shephard's Pie sounds cozier

Oganesson118 · 07/11/2023 19:31

If you use pork mince is it a Sty Pie?

Aparecium · 07/11/2023 19:35

It's a chicken pie, yer great lummox!

No, sliced potatoes on top is a Hot Pot. Possibly a Lancashire Hot Pot but I'm sure a local would be able to tell us.
