Made the mistake of watching the news with MIL

My elderly mil (child of holocaust survivors) is visiting.
have been avoiding watching the news during her visit.
tonight though we were flicking through the channels and settled on bbc news with the very distressing reports from Gaza.

mil started ranting about the bbc bias, I said they weren’t biased, that pulled out the stopper and she kept talking…..

I left the room for a bit, came back, she talked a bit more, so I gave her a hug, changed channel. We’ll be fine tomorrow.

I'm sure I heard a news presenter say the other day something like..Hamas who some consider a terrorist group. Pretty sure it was the BBC...I was wtf!

Why aren't they also protesting for the release of the hostages? Seeing as they just want to see an end to human suffering?

Or perhaps they could protest about the terrible things happening in Yemen to the innocent children....

Is it because British Jews don't care? Of course not. It's because they're scared to publicly go out and stand up for their own community, because those who disagree with them have form for violence against Jews.

Yes there could be a protest for peace rather than picking a side.

I feel absolutely terrible for innocent civilians especially children in any conflict...there are many suffering all over the world yet this is the particular war which has generated these huge protests. You must be very naive if you believe there isn't a hint of anti semitism surrounding it.

It's not difficult at all to see what's going on. Journalists and civilians stuck in Gaza are showing it, all day, every day on their Instagram stories.
The destruction, death, despair, the white phosphorus, the bodies being pulled out from under the rubble, the ambulances being blown up. It's all there, you just need to look

(meanwhile the Tel Aviv location tag shows people going out to bars and having picnics on the beach, but that's another thread altogether)

It's being dropped almost every day, lots of first hand accounts and people live streaming it.
Former IDF soldiers are also talking about it.
Hospitals are struggling to cope with victims of the horrific burns it causes.

Why aren't you also condemning Hamas for using their own people as human shields? It is well established that they use schools and hospitals as weapons depots and launch pads, and the IDF have said that the ambulance was being used to transport militants. They even blocked their own civilians trying to flee Gaza. Even if you're opposed to the IDF, why would you choose to believe Hamas's side of the story over Israel's?
I'm not saying you can't criticise Israel. But why not also condemn Hamas? And why do you default to only believing non-Israeli sources?

I watch Palestinian sources because they are the ones being bombed into oblivion, no one else is allowed in Gaza so they are the only source on the ground.

And it is definitely the IDF blockading Gaza. Even the US and Israeli government don't dispute that 🤦‍♀️

Please try and understand that being against genocide does not mean supporting Hamas. This should not need to be spelt out anymore, surely?

This is why it’s so challenging to discuss this

and I don’t like what I’m seeing on the news
even Fox fucking news cannot hide the devastation in Gaza
