Vinted - do you get aggravated by offers?

Or is it just me?

I'm selling 6 pairs of exercise / yoga pants. All excellent condition think there's only 2 pairs that have actually been worn. Can tell from the photos that there are no faults.

All Nike, Adidas & Reebok, easily £30 per pair to buy new.

I'm asking for £10 for all 6 pairs.

Had several offers of £7... one lady I declined the offer, came back and offered £8, came back & offered £9. Why would I take £9 if I wouldn't take £7 or £8?? Now she's asked me to reserve them until Thursday for her.... fuck right off!!

Is it just me that's like this about offers? I honestly feel insulted and would rather shot them all in the bin. I had to stop doing car boots sales for the same reason. Curious if it's just me and I'm not cut out for selling on.

I think some people have a hobby of seeing what they can get for cheap.

My pet peeve is when people sell shit that with postage, ends up being the same price as you would buy new.

winniethedoo · 07/11/2023 16:06

I do find cheeky offers annoying. I had a coat on for £50 and someone offered £45, that's fine. Unreasonable ones I jsut ignore. I buy quite a lot but I just pay the asking price if I want it, there's always a chance it will go in the meantime for full price while I'm haggling to save a quid!

ChangeUsername123 · 07/11/2023 16:29

I find it a bit annoying too but just decline. What I find worse though is like with the latest offer I’ve had where the buyer asks one word or two word questions. Like - “£4.00?” Then when I answered a slightly longer question that they asked with some detail I got “jeans” and then “how long?”. So I blocked them. Just gives me a bad vibe and I think it’s the height of rudeness. If they don’t sell, I’ll stick them in the charity bag.

I find it really rude when sellers don't accept or decline offers, they just ignore them.

alrighthen · 11/11/2023 00:18

I’ve been selling quite a bit this month and don’t mind offers at all. Even if they’re cheekily lowball. At least I can then counter and we’re closer to a deal. It frustrates me more when 40 people like something but nobody makes me an offer as it’s good to have a ballpark figure in mind of what people might pay. Most of the stuff I sell is nice/mid range like Cos/Arket that I maybe paid £100 for but is realistically now worth under £30 in value once postage and protection is factored in.

I don’t want to maximise my profit - I just want to free up wardrobe space and use the money to buy stuff that fits better or I like more.

Banana1979 · 11/11/2023 00:22

No because I was aware of the feature already
also if something has been listed for months and no takers and someone offers a little less for it I don’t mind selling it to get rid of if it
I also sometimes make an offer on something I like that’s been up for ages and obviously not selling and most times the seller agrees
works both ways

As others have said, price things a little higher than you want to sell for on vinted. It also gives you the option of reducing the price at some point, which can encourage people who have favourited an item to buy it.

What annoys me is when someone makes an offer, I accept the offer, then they never pay! Why make an offer if you're still not willing to pay the price you're offering? Bloody timewasters.

Often there's loads of identical things for the same price so I'll offer on a few and buy whichever gets accepted first. I message the others to say I don't need it any more but I guess not everyone would.

goababy · 11/11/2023 00:48

I really get annoyed by this, I've even rage blocked people who offer me £1.50 for a £2 item. It's so bloody cheeky!

A few times I've put the price up after receiving a cheeky offer, and the offerer has bought it at the increased price which brings me great joy

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 11/11/2023 02:45

I don't use vinted, but I used to sell on eBay a lot, and yes, the cheeky gits messaging with offers 50% of the listed price just got ignored.

If the item didn't fetch reserve and there was a bid that was close, I'd usually message the bidder myself and offer them the item at their bid price, provided it was reasonable, but you do get absolute chancers messaging with £20 "immediate sale?" offers on items that commonly go for £50+. Err, no thanks.

doctorfosterwenttohospital · 11/11/2023 03:57

Whenever I sell anything I always put in the text "Sorry no offers as this is the lowest I am prepared to see them for"

MinnieL · 11/11/2023 04:02

But also, if you'll accept £10, why wouldn't you accept £9. Same argument.

I was thinking the same thing. It’s also best to price things higher so that you’d get an amount that you’re happy with

That sounds unlikely, and a few times...

I only get annoyed when it's a piss take offer.

Had a wool Zara coat listed for £30 BNWT rrp £120 and I had a message asking if I would accept £12. I ignored and she proceeded to send me 3 lots of "??????"

If it's 10/15% of the asking price I normally accept just to get rid of the item.

Why didn't you just say 'thanks for the offer but I don't want to reduce the price'?

Highlandsprocker · 11/11/2023 08:03

I sell quite a bit of Toast and MH and I've noticed if I sell low its back on at a much higher price immediately.

heetud · 11/11/2023 08:14

Yes. I ended up bagging everything up and taking it to recycling, I couldn't be arsed with the Facebook marketplace style sell it's exhausting and irritating as fuck. I like buying on there, but won't sell.

gdaysport · 11/11/2023 08:39

There is a woman selling a toy that is currently £25 brand new in the shops, she has listed hers for £18, but with the fees and postage its £23.50. Why would I buy something second hand, that takes a week to arrive, for £1.50 off? Some people have absolutely no clue how to use Vinted.

I agree; it's ridiculous, but it happened

99victoria · 11/11/2023 08:57

I don't usually mind offers if they're reasonable but I have just listed a beautiful evening dress that was £200 new and I only wore once. I put all that in the description and listed it for £18! Someone offered me £12!
To be honest, I'd rather hang on to it for my granddaughters than accept such a cheeky offer

Sussurations · 11/11/2023 09:07

It is a bit irritating. Somebody has just messaged me ‘what’s the lowest you would take?’ which makes me feel like replying ‘the price I have listed it for’. I usually price lowish to get rid of stuff and don’t mind sensible offers, but there are people who just want money off for the sake of it. I ignore stupid offers, and as my stuff is priced well it usually sells fast.

TisTheSeasonToLebkuchen · 11/11/2023 09:17

Sometimes I put e.g. £12, because I want £10 for it, and not be offered £8. It seems to work.

If something has been on for ages, and I want rid, I will take an offer.

I recently sold something at a steal after the person really bargained me down and I agreed, to clear out my stuff. She literally got it for about 8% of what I paid. She then quibbled the item and I had Vinted on my back. The item had a label on it, and I could prove it was from that shop, but they questioned it even though they were paying buttons for a designer item. It is all resolved now, but I am now very wary of people who make stupid offers, as this person was a nightmare.

I can believe this!

Someone had something listed for £15. Postage was £5.99 and buyers protection was £1.49 or something like that.

I made an offer of £10. The seller declined the offer and instead of doing a counter offer like most people, she changed the price of the listed item to £20. She then came back and said, ‘Seeing as you want a £5 discount, I’ve upped the price so I can sell it for £15 and that way we both get what we want’😕

It’s been up for 2 months so I doubt someone will pay 20 quid for it but you never know!

Tryingtryingandtrying · 12/11/2023 21:38

@99victoria If you are buying £200 dresses to wear once i honestly do not understand why £6 matters to you so much? If you want it gone, let it go. If you need the money buy second hand yourself. What difference will £6 make to your life?

People's circumstances change. The dress was a gift

LifeofBrienne · 12/11/2023 21:52

I’ve bought a load of stuff on Vinted and will often offer a cheaper price if I can see that it’s been sitting there unsold for 4 months. It’s not just the insurance and postage, it’s the fact that photos on Vinted only give a very vague impression of what clothes will actually look like on me. In general I’ve been really pleased with what I’ve bought but a few items have gone straight into the charity shop bag. So the fails need to be priced in and I don’t want to pay too much for any individual item.

39and · 12/11/2023 21:55

I sold a leather jacket for £10 today. It was a stupidly cheap price but I only paid £20 for it anyway. People offering £6/£7 and asking for try on photos. I couldn't be bothered for that price. Someone bought it for £10 within half an hour it anyway.
