Did you know how many DC you wanted before you had them?

If you knew how many you wanted it, did you stick to it?

I can think of so many reasons why it would be sensible for us to be one and done. Time, energy and financially! However I have a friend who is also TTC and sure she wants 4 kids. Maybe we will both change our minds! Did you :-)

Wanted 4, stopped after two as it felt complete - no regrets.

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 05/11/2023 21:42

I thought I wanted 3 or 4. I had 1, felt so happy and knew that our family was complete.

Sellingbedtime · 05/11/2023 21:42

Thought I'd be the conventional 2, which I currently have. however my heart wants a 3rd but my head says yo crazy girlll!

Wish44 · 05/11/2023 21:43

My dream head said 6. My reality head said 3. Had 3

RTHJ14 · 05/11/2023 21:43

I wanted but 4…… but 2 miscarriages and 2 pregnancies with severe Hyperemisis meant we stopped at 2! I’m very lucky with my 2nd that we’re both here to tell the tale but occasionally I get a real pang for another.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/11/2023 21:47

Wanted 2. Because I have sisters I always imagined I'd have girls.
I had 2 girls.

mondaytosunday · 05/11/2023 21:47

In my 20s i though I wanted five. I didn't get married til I was 40, and my husband had two already. We had two more and even if I was younger that would have been enough (the older two lived with us for most of their teen years).
Now as mum of an 18 year old and 20 year old, I wonder if I might have had more (if I had got married younger).

MissAmbrosia · 05/11/2023 21:49

When young I always thought I'd have 3. Then had years where I wasn't actually that bothered. DD was a happy accident. I thought about trying for a 2nd but she was such a good, content baby, I was convinced next time I wouldn't be so lucky and as approaching 40.....I've always been happy with 1. She did want a sibling though.

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 05/11/2023 21:50

We wanted two but after six consecutive miscarriages I was almost 40 when DD was born. We tried for another but I went through early menopause so it never happened though we count ourselves very lucky to have DD.

Bellabluea · 05/11/2023 21:50

I wanted a houseful. I had 5! Would have had one more but had several miscarriages and decided not to push my luck so we stopped trying.

Itsbecauseiamamumandlovethem · 05/11/2023 21:53

I always wanted 2 ,then when the buggy became redundant which was fantastic for carrying extra shopping I decided to have another little person 😂Have never regretted no 3.He really is the icing on the cake …cannot imagine the family dynamics without him 💙A lovely guy and am proud that he is such a beautiful human being 😊

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 05/11/2023 21:56

Never wanted any in the abstract. Had DD for DH (and had had a TFMR the year before). She is the light of my life but never had the faintest wish to have another, and I’m 50 now so that ship has sailed.

swingtowin · 05/11/2023 21:57

Always wanted 3 and have 3 but if I had been a bit younger, and not had a few losses in between, I probably would have snuck in a 4th!

Tigerteal · 05/11/2023 22:04

@Multipleexclamationmarks 😂 that made me laugh

Ugzbugz · 05/11/2023 22:07

4 then one and done although I would have 4 boys if could skip to 4 grown ups! My son has everything he wants tbh and wouldn't have had the opportunities had there been more plus I'm single. I could not have coped with more than 1 as he never slept for years and I mean years.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 05/11/2023 22:10

Wanted two, have two. Started a bit late and timing to mean that we didn't pay two sets of nursery fees means a third wouldn't have been likely. Plus the impact on my career. And the thrill of paying off the mortgage may yet be dampened by college fees....

RandomQuestionOfTheDay · 05/11/2023 22:12

Wanted 3. Left it a bit late though so they’d have had to have had small age gaps. Had 2 and discovered we’re not the world’s most natural parents… stuck at 2.

Radio4andChocolate · 05/11/2023 22:15

Wanted 7
Have 1

Husband left, so no more.

She's great. And I'm glad husband didn't leave me with 7 to care for! No point living on what ifs.

RainbowConnection1 · 05/11/2023 22:17

In my head I wanted 6 but have 4, all boys. They're mostly grown up now and I wouldn't have changed any of it for anything.

maw29 · 05/11/2023 22:18

I wanted 4 or 5 but unfortunately needed a hysterectomy when I had dd so we have 2.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 05/11/2023 22:19

Spent all my 20s not wanting any. Gradually shifted to maaaaaybe just one. Had that one at age 37. Now have three 🤷🏻‍♀️ Loved being a mum way more than I ever would have guessed before it happened.

elliejjtiny · 05/11/2023 22:19

I wanted 4, then 7, then 3, then 4 again. I've got 5.

Winnipeggy · 05/11/2023 22:29

I only ever wanted one, never even considered another until she was about 6 months old. Before that I remember thinking daily how I could never cope with 2. Then she started becoming a proper little human and the hormones kicked in good and proper. She's 20 months old now and we're trying for number 2. I'm 39 and tbh I wish I'd started way earlier so there wasn't a timer on it

erikbloodaxe · 05/11/2023 21:36

Wanted 3 boys
Had 3 boys

Same here.

Obviously I'm sure I'd have been perfectly happy if any of them had been girls, of course I would as you love what you get, but I had a strong preference for a family of boys. Just three though, four would've broken me!

MissSmiley · 05/11/2023 22:33

Would have liked three but had twins for my third pregnancy (ivf cycle 9!!) then had a surprise natural conception so ended up with five, there were five years at the beginning after lots of failed ivf and a mc when I thought I wouldn't be lucky enough to be a mum at all. No regrets, I've been very very lucky but never thought I would have five
