How do you not overeat a Sunday roast?

When everything is so delicious. And there’s often a hot pudding with custard. Or am I just greedy? I love the veg as much as the salty, fatty stuff.

No idea. I ate about 8 roast potatoes today.

Projectme · 05/11/2023 18:20

I have no idea OP!

Underthesea65 · 05/11/2023 18:20

If someone has the answer, please do tell

muddyford · 05/11/2023 18:27

Doesn't matter. It's one meal a week. You have twenty others to exercise restraint!

Year13novice · 05/11/2023 18:28

I have to make sure there are only enough potatoes for three or four each and if we have a massive 1kg of pork for example then don’t put it all out on the table put some aside otherwise we all just keep going until it’s all gone!

Queucumber · 05/11/2023 18:28

Hating hot puddings with custard?

Malarandras · 05/11/2023 18:28

Don’t have one? I only have one Christmas. Otherwise I’d be seriously unhealthy 😅

Chowtime · 05/11/2023 18:29

Just buy less and cook less and serve yourself smaller portions - even if it means you get up to serve yourself more you'll probably still eat less.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 05/11/2023 18:30

It's impossible. Just roll with it and go easy next day haha. You've just piqued my appetite though.... I'm going to have a rummage through my kitchen now!!!!!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/11/2023 18:30

Smaller plates?

Smartiepants79 · 05/11/2023 18:31

I stop when I’m full.
Thats it.
I know I’m fairly lucky that my brain works this way. I’m also fairly small so eating huge amounts has never been a thing. I eat most things and am not a very healthy eater (fairly balanced) but I do know when to stop.

LittleSnowBear · 05/11/2023 18:33

I stop when I’m full

I do this too, once I’m full it’s game over.

ButtonDownBev · 05/11/2023 18:34

Smaller plates and a bigger portion of veg (not cooked in oil/fat/butter etc- cauliflower cheese also doesn't count lol) especially easy to do if you enjoy the veg! Then make sure you have a bit of everything but smaller portions of potatoes/Yorkshires etc

That way you have a big dinner, feel satiated but have less of the higher calorie foods and more yummy veg!

80sMum · 05/11/2023 18:37

Eat slowly. Eating slowly gives your brain a chance to "catch up" and let you know when you've had enough.

SkaneTos · 05/11/2023 18:38

Stop eating when you are full.

I’m astonished on a weekly basis about how much I can eat on roast dinner night.

And then, despite being completely full, the massive Sunday roast consumption somehow triggers my WANT MORE response, so by 9 or 10pm I’m in the kitchen pulling what’s left of the chicken out of the fridge so that I can scoff the wings, in all their crunchy-skin-Eat-Me-yum-yum-yum-ness.

Fallenangelofthenorth · 05/11/2023 18:40

I cook it. By the time it's on the table I've kinda lost my appetite from the "testing/tasting" stage. Although, I do "test" quite a bit of it to be fair...

QueSyrahSyrah · 05/11/2023 18:41

SkaneTos · 05/11/2023 18:38

Stop eating when you are full.

Yep. Took me years to train myself into it after it being drilled into me as a kid that to leave anything was a sinful waste.

Now I can't stand leaving the table feeling stuffed to the point of uncomfortable queasiness so I stop eating long before that.

At home we just buy and cook enough to serve the two of us, so there's never masses of leftovers or waste anyway.

Blueberrycreampie · 05/11/2023 18:42

One saving Grace is we eat slightly earlier so more time between supper and breakfast - that's good isn't it? I gave myself about six roast potatoes but then gave a couple to DH as I was getting full!

Haha, chicken wings are long gone before it even reaches the table. I'm not sure my family even realise chickens have wings.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 05/11/2023 18:42

Eat it at lunchtime and then go for a long walk.

It's only once a week!

Sunday roast isn't too bad if there's plenty of veg?

ThanksItHasPockets · 05/11/2023 18:47

One roast dinner a year? Hmm

limefrog · 05/11/2023 18:48

It's hard not to overeat on a Sunday roast.

I don't think I've ever wanted dessert after one though, so I suppose I overeat on the main and then stop!

HoopLaLah · 05/11/2023 18:49

Do you cook the dinner Fallenangel? To be fair, if it were me dishing up I’d be the same as you, in fact chances are I’d burn my mouth eating them straight out the oven.

I prefer them cold and crunchy though, so luckily it’s DP who does the roast meaning I can avoid temptation till they’re cold and at their best.
