Got scammed for the first time today.
£800 for nonexistent Taylor Swift tickets.
I could cry 😭
Any hope getting my money back? It's Monzo I paid with

Can you contact Monzo and ask them to claw back the money?
Publicise who you bought the tickets from so no-one else falls for this scam as well, name and shame.

Zampa · 05/11/2023 10:57

Call your bank to see if you can stop the payment going through?

mynameiscalypso · 05/11/2023 10:58

Speak to Monzo first. They're not great at reimbursing but might take pity on you especially if you were vulnerable for any reason.

woodysadventures · 05/11/2023 11:02

Yes I contacted Monzo straight away. They are looking into it.
I'm such an idiot!
I never never fall for things like this.
I guess they were very persuasive and so wanted the tickets too badly

Thank you. That gives me a little bit of hope

I can't tell anyone irl, I feel so embarrassed for being so stupid

Monzo refund in about 10% of cases but if they don't give you your money back, you can appeal to the Fjnancial Ombudsman Service. They uphold about 50% of complaints about banks not refunding frauds.

Don't be - literally thousands fall for scams like this - modern life is like walking over a minefield trying to avoid fraud and scams when you want to make what should be perfectly straightforward transactions.

woodysadventures · 05/11/2023 11:10

Thank you!
And thank you all for being nice and not judgemental- I know I was incredibly stupid!

Why would you buy them? It’s been all over social media, and also the news, that second hand tickets are a scam. Anyone buying tickets can sell them back to Ticketmaster for full price, and tickets are non-transferable so you couldn’t use someone else’s anyway.

I hope you get the money back but, in this case, you were warned very publicly.

Hfuhruhurr · 05/11/2023 11:18

What was the website you bought them from? Worth posting, it might help others.

woodysadventures · 05/11/2023 11:22

Local FB group. They looked genuine but I guess someone had their account hacked...

Yeah this happened on our really small village FB group. Someone had their account hacked two years ago and they have a new account. Someone started posted Taylor Swift tickets for sale with her old account so it looks completely legit as we all know here and she's been a member of the group for so long. Luckily she spotted it herself before anyone got caught out.

Hfuhruhurr · 05/11/2023 11:29

You sent £800 to a random person on Facebook? I am sorry but I really doubt you'll get the money back unless you did anything to attempt to verify the tickets existed.

It wasn't a random person, it was a local she knew who'd been hacked.

woodysadventures · 05/11/2023 11:32

They had a screenshot of the tickets in ticket master account, with their name etc.

But I guess this is easily forged. X

But that’s the thing. Ticketmaster themselves have issued warning. They are giving full refunds to anyone who wants to sell their tickets back to Ticketmaster, so there is no need to sell on Facebook. The tickets are non transferable so there is also no need to buy them from Facebook as you can’t use them.

Ticketmaster have done everything they can. The rest is on you.

Hfuhruhurr · 05/11/2023 11:39

We've had people (not locals, presumably) on our tiny village FB group start profiles and sit on them for a bit before bringing out the fake sales. They look like any other profile but others warn about them. Seems like no outlet is immune from them...

HalloweenIsDone · 05/11/2023 11:49

Report to Action Fraud.

Yes, Monzo also recommended I did that

PickledPurplePickle · 05/11/2023 11:56

I think it's unlikely you will get your money back unfortunately

I haven't used Monzo, but with my bank for a new payee I have to confirm that I have received the goods or service, and that it is not a scam, etc before I can proceed - did you have to do that?

woodysadventures · 05/11/2023 12:07

I honestly can't remember now 😞
