Can anyone recommend anywhere cool for a 10 year old to eat in London?

We are coming to London in December to watch the panto. We visit every year but usually only come down for the day (we are about 2 hours away by train) so usually have a quick meal but this year we’re treating ourselves and staying for 2 days!

It will be me, ds (10) and my mum. My mum really wants to go for an afternoon tea and I’ve seen some really good child friendly ones such as the Charlie and the chocolate factory experience but they work out about £76/80 each 😳. Which is too much, we were thinking more about £40/50 each.

I looked at the rain forest cafe but I think it’s closed down??

we’ll be staying near Victoria station, the panto (palladium) is on the last day so we’ll head to the train afterwards so we’ll need it to be on the Sunday or the Monday.

nothing like Chinese etc but something cool/ a bit different either food wise or the venue?

thanks!

Darwin Brasserie at the Sky Garden.

We loved Fuwa Fuwa pancakes for a treat, not too expensive. Behind Covent Garden is Milk Train which is great for ice creams

I've been to the CATFC one - it was ok but soooo sickly sweet - I wouldn't recommend

My 10’year old LOVES 5 guys but I appreciate this is fairly ubiquitous and not unique to London

FoodieToo · 04/11/2023 20:35

Hard Rock Cafe in Picadilly is pretty cool with great food !

Wagamama ? Or Yo Sushi ?

JaneKatSuttonGoals · 04/11/2023 20:37

Saw Christmas afternoon tea at The Dilly advertised - looks fab. I think it was about £45

I know it’s a chain but five guys on the southbank has a fabulous view of the river and city from its upstairs. My 11 yo loved it

HerculesMulligan · 04/11/2023 20:42

Is there one on the South Bank (which I think of as being between Westminster Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge) or is it the one at Tower Bridge that has the view?

My DC are 11 and 8 and love Sticks & Sushi - there’s one in the West End near the theatres. They also love Bun House on Lisle St but appreciate you said no Chinese.

We have done a child friendly afternoon tea with them but tbh it got a bit much and sickly by the end, they couldn’t finish it.

My younger ones liked Gordon Ramsay’s burger bar.

Steins Berlin on Exhibition Rd near the natural history museum. Quite an adult environment but excellent fun Germanic food. Ous kids loved it.

I used to take kids to My Old Dutch (they do savoury huge pancakes), one in Holborn.

Yes you’re right-Tower bridge. We stopped on on our way to Southbank which is why I think of it as there!

It’s not afternoon tea, but my ten year old LOVES Yo Sushi, and the pizza place Home Slice is very cool.

The Breakfast Club - all day breakfast food

My ds12 enjoys having a burger at Maxwells in Covent Garden - it's an American style place. Also if you're staying in Victoria area, Market Halls Victoria is a fun place to eat - communal tables, and lots of different food options, so everyone can choose something they like to eat.

DominiqueBernard · 04/11/2023 22:29

Agree with Maxwell's!

Justbetweenus · 04/11/2023 22:30

Conveyor belt sushi (like Yo Sushi) was a hit when my DC were that age. They have alternatives to raw fish dishes if that doesn’t appeal.

Pizza pilgrims in kingly court
Shake stack - burgers
Daisy green - brunch place in soho
Brasserie zedel - French / cheap set menu

Afternoon tea - cutter and squidge soho - Harry- potter ish , or Monmouth kitchen does a sort of afternoon tea w pizza, Ampersand Hotel near the science museum do a rocket-y themed one

I know you said no Chinese but IME all kids adore China town

FarEast · 05/11/2023 05:32

Wahaca - on the South Bank - is pretty cool. But not afternoon tea …
