Eating Chinese food. The next day?

Looking for some advice please.

We got a Chinese for dinner last night. I have some leftovers salt and pepper chips, plain noodles, chicken fried rice.

Would they be ok to heat up and eat tonight?

I didn't put them in the fridge 😕
But my kitchen has no heating and is cold.

I definitely wouldn't risk the chicken fried rice

Boujibroke · 03/11/2023 19:53

@SisSuffragette that's the one I am on the fence about. I was wondering if I heated it up in a wok would it be ok.

Probably not the rice, the others I'd probably chance (after putting in fridge for the rest of the day)

I wouldn't eat the chicken rice either. Rice has to be handled carefully anyway and chicken that has been left out... no way.

MinnieL · 03/11/2023 19:58

How come you didn’t put it in the fridge once it had cooled down? Chips the next day always taste like shit imo so I wouldn’t eat it on that basis alone

TwiddlingMyToes · 03/11/2023 19:59

It's funny, I've read that about reheating rice for years and I have also done this for years and literally never been ill. I do wonder how many people actually get ill from reheating rice?

Personally, I'd risk it providing it was properly reheated, but I get the impression I'll be in the minority!

BitofaStramash · 03/11/2023 20:00

It's never nice the second day.

milkysmum · 03/11/2023 20:02

I've always eaten rice the next day. I've never been ill, and I've never known anyone been ill off re heated rice despite knowing it's meant to be a high risk food. I'm veggie so never had to risk the chicken.

Mountaindhew · 03/11/2023 20:02

No - none of that will be nice the next day and the rice might make you sick

TomatoSandwiches · 03/11/2023 20:05

Someone in America died after eating leftover and non refrigerated rice so I wouldn't chance that.
The rest make sure it's piping hot.

Robotik · 03/11/2023 20:05

Nope

the risk of being really poorly with reheated rice is small but significant! Don’t do it

TwiddlingMyToes · 03/11/2023 20:05

Well ok, but this refers to one person who died 15 years ago from eating pasta that had been left out at room temperature for 5 days! Even I wouldn't advocate that, mostly because I would worry it had started to go mouldy! But it's not quite the same as eating left over Chinese probably less than 24 hours later.

abc56 · 03/11/2023 20:07

I always reheat rice but only if it has been stored correctly. Wouldn't risk the chicken fried rice op.

VerrryNice · 03/11/2023 20:07

I always do that BUT it’s always refrigerated overnight. I wouldn’t risk it otherwise.

Justcallmebebes · 03/11/2023 20:08

I'd eat the rice, no problem. Hasn't killed me yet. Chinese always tastes better the next day

Dogdaywoes · 03/11/2023 20:33

I've just had yesterday's crispy fried beef and egg fried rice for dinner. Yum!

So a big fat yes from me.

TheBirdintheCave · 03/11/2023 20:36

Only if it's been properly refrigerated beforehand. If you've left it out over night I wouldn't risk it.

MrsJackRackam · 03/11/2023 20:43

I'm a clatty bitch and have been known to eat leftovers from the plate the next morning while waiting for the kettle to boil. Never been ill.
Does everyone stop driving when they read of a fatal car accident???? No, why not? The risk is small but significant.
Reheat the takeaway so it's hot and enjoy. Life is shite. Chinese takeaway is not.

mynameiscalypso · 03/11/2023 20:44

I would if it had been in the fridge. Not if it's been out on the side all night and all day today.

Boujibroke · 03/11/2023 20:56

I heated everything up so it was really hot. Then had it for my dinner was really lovely.

Fingers crossed all is ok

FictionalCharacter · 03/11/2023 20:58

No, I wouldn’t reheat them because they’ve been left at room temperature for hours. A quite cold kitchen feels cold to us but is warm enough to allow a fair rate of bacterial growth.
