Where is the best place to park for a concert at Cardiff Principality Stadium?

Have read roads get closed and there is gridlock with big events. Would like to avoid both if possible.

Outside Cardiff and take a taxi in.

pumpkinpink · 02/11/2023 19:10

There is usually event parking in Sophia gardens. Also st David's centre but you'll have to drive through town.

Bsmirched · 02/11/2023 19:14

We always use my parking space.co.uk to book a space near any events we go to. They've always been great.

Br33333ath3 · 02/11/2023 19:14

What is the Q parking at Cardiff Bay like? Which would be better, that or Sophia? Dh went to uni in Cardiff and says the docks are dodgy. I have told him things have probably moved on in 40 years.😂

Don’t park in St David’s. It will take you hours to get out. You can try up by the uni/ museum/ city hall on street pay and display. That’s where I park everytime I go into
town.

Magenta65 · 02/11/2023 19:16

Park in St David’s or John Lewis. Otherwise there is an ncp just outside the motor point arena. The other option is to park and ride from somewhere like Radyr. Just go early. If the concerts at 7 be in Cardiff for 3/4pm

Magenta65 · 02/11/2023 19:17

Be warned it will take ages to get out of st David’s

KnickerlessParsons · 02/11/2023 19:17

Which way are you approaching the city? There's a park and ride as you approach from the M4 west.

Imreallytiredandanxioustoday · 02/11/2023 22:15

Who are you seeing Springsteen?

cardibach · 02/11/2023 22:29

The docks are no longer dodgy! It’s an entertainment and dining centre. You could park at Q Park and take the train in to the centre. There are various Park and Ride options for events I think. Getting to Cardiff can be difficult if there is an event.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 02/11/2023 22:42

We parked at an NCP when we went to see Coldplay, and as we left 10 minutes before the end, we flew out. Think it was Greyfriars?

The traffic getting into Cardiff when a stadium event is on is horrific, so leave lots of time. We spent a good hour getting from Newport to Cardiff on the M4 and then another half hour getting from the M4 to the centre.

Temporaryanonymity · 02/11/2023 22:44

I park outside the centre and taxi in. Or stay in a hotel and don’t stress about it.

bellsbuss · 02/11/2023 22:54

Is going by train an option , they put later ones on when there's a big event

TomAllenWife · 02/11/2023 22:54

When is it for?
You can park on my street
Train & bus both 5 mins walk from my house and 20 mins into central Cardiff.

Naice area 😃

Snowpatrolling · 02/11/2023 23:07

I always park in the small car park near the Motopoint arena, go to steak of the art for tea then head to where ever we need!
I tend to leave concerts 5/10 mins early so getting out isnt an issue. Went to see pink and stayed til the end, took nearly 2 hours to just get out the car park!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 02/11/2023 23:14

Sophia gardens is ideal but you’ll need to get there very early!

could you tag an overnight stay on? Cardiff is great but its traffic on match and concert days definitely is not!

WelshNerd · 02/11/2023 23:21

I always park at leckwith park and ride. Never had any problems.

Itsacakebaby · 02/11/2023 23:55

We've always parked on Schooner Way. It's about a 20 minute walk. Always have found a space there.

Cherry321 · 03/11/2023 00:24

Park in the bay and walk up

UncleBryn · 03/11/2023 07:42

We parked in Newport and got the train in. Queues for the train after were long but they put loads of extra ones on to Newport and we got back quickly. The traffic is a nightmare when there is an event. Driving from Newport was easy. I'd avoid taking the car into Cardiff if at all possible.

SummerWillow · 03/11/2023 08:01

We park at Radyr station (free) and get the train in - about 10 mins. Can be very congested around station on the way back though - I'm talking about rugby events but I'm guessing a big concert similar.

GreenSalon · 03/11/2023 08:16

Definitely not dodgy! Parking there is a good idea and it’s one stop into Cardiff Queen Street station and then a short walk. You’re close to main access routes then in and out of Cardiff.

Br33333ath3 · 03/11/2023 08:28

Yes it’s Springsteen!!!! So excited. Love Cardiff Principality Stadium, saw him there a while ago and it’s such a great venue.

Thankyou for all the advice. Have no fear we’ll be leaving early!!! 😂

m4 round Newport area is awful most of the time to be fair, not just event days 😂

I would park and ride if at all possible from one of the many railway stations (either a valley line like Taffs Well, Radyr or Main line such as Newport). Or check out if there are any park and ride bus services running - used to be one Cardiff East off the M48 but I think they cancelled it.

As most if Cardiff (town area) has had shiny new bus lanes/cycle lanes added which has reduced the car lanes from 2 down to 1, plus road closures and ‘busses only’ roads now filter all the traffic onto just one or two routes. The lights also seem to be sequenced to cause maximum gridlock.

Definitely worth thinking about getting early and having lunch/ a meal, wandering round the arcades and market, castle if it’s nice. It will be heaving getting in but once into the city it’s very compact.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/11/2023 08:38

There’s parking in a Just Park - book in advance obvs - just behind the IBIS budget hotel on Tyndall Street. There’s also a large hotel car park behind the Novotel on Tyndall Street, hardly ever fully used and you can pay at the hotel reception to park there even if you’re not a hotel guest. Personally though I’d stay overnight in the IBIS budget. Much less stressful.
