No naice ham? Disappointing.

AppleKatie · 28/10/2023 23:37

thanks for the wine tip!

It is quite a posh list, not so much the contents as the effort behind writing ‘gypsophila’ and ‘name of wine I clearly haven’t remembered’ rather than just scribbling
‘wine’
’flowers’
on the notes app on my phone.

Davros · 28/10/2023 23:38

And blue paper

TootenCarMoon · 28/10/2023 23:39

Wow @DyslexicPoster £75! That seems a lot of money for not a lot of bags.

I love the shopping lists!

I used to play a game with my daughter to get her to walk to the shop with me... First one to spot (rough area)...

Shopping Trolley
1 shoe
Discarded McDs items
Hair bobble
Mattress
Single bike wheel

We used to leave our list in the Co-op basket. I hope someone was amused or bemused at least.

What us interesting is that the "listee" has been very specific in noting Nyetimber not just sparkling wine abd gypsophila rather than flowers. Yet just the frustratingly lacking "cheese"
which cheese ? Or cheeses ? Is this meal concluding with a cheeseboard ?

I think the specific items are ones another person has requested. You know which cheeses you need, and you would know which wines you like. So if someone had asked for a specific wine, I would write it down, same with flowers.

CallieQ · 28/10/2023 23:56

Eh

Xiaoxiong · 28/10/2023 23:58

Above sparkling water is Nyetimber, which is a £40 per bottle English sparkling wine. No prosecco for this shopper!!

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 28/10/2023 23:59

CallieQ · 28/10/2023 23:56

Eh

Back in Ye Old Days when Mumsnet was just fields, there were lots of threads where people posted shopping lists they had found. It was A Thing.
the OP is clearly a MNetter of some years' standing and posted about it, resulting in newer people being flummoxed.

AlphaAlpha · 29/10/2023 00:07

They forget the naice ham.

CallieQ · 29/10/2023 00:14

😂

Thanks! I was around in the old days but don't remember the lists...

Lightbulbspark · 29/10/2023 00:32

Ooo, this is the first time I've seen a shopping list thread but I get it and I like it.

It's clearly all about the dinner or lunch party. They are very specific on what's needed for that, but vague on the milk and cheese, as that's not part of it and of little interest. The flowers will be made up into a table display. Clearly. Probably with something gathered from the garden. I wouldn't have a clue what to do with a spatchcock or quorn roast (suspect more than two non-meat eaters coming for a whole roast). I expect they are a good cook. It all sounds promising and I'd look forward to a very nice meal.

I would hope another list is made later in the week with custard creams on it.

Yes! This was the origin of the MN term ‘naice’ to describe (and guiltily identify with) buying aspirational commodities to cement your middle class status

WinterDeWinter · 29/10/2023 00:44

Someone found a shopping list and it included ‘nice ham’, presumably as opposed to the usual ‘shit ham’.

Davros · 29/10/2023 08:35

I think the original list had naice ham and ham for the children, i.e. the shit ham

ThreeRingCircus · 29/10/2023 09:20

Ooh that is quite a posh shopping list! What's the betting this person is a Mumsnetter and knew exactly what they were doing leaving it behind? 🤣 I always love the found list threads.

Theyve also clearly forgotten the Pom Bear 🙄

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 29/10/2023 09:42

Not sure is this posh? Looks like my list, but shorter.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 29/10/2023 09:44

mynameiscalypso · 28/10/2023 23:27

Nyetimber is a brand of English sparkling wine.

I love this list, I feel like I can 100% picture the household it belongs to.

Thank a for clearing that up, I had no idea what that item was.

It sounds like my shopping list would be if I had the funds Wink

You beat me to it 😂

Haven't seen a shopping list thread for years, thanks @TootenCarMoon .

mynameiscalypso · 29/10/2023 09:55

When I stay with my parents, they have a running shopping list and I can never resist adding something to it. Sometimes it's something so immature that they know it's me (like 'a poo') but sometimes I either write an obscure ingredient or just write an indecipherable squiggle and leave them to try and work out what they could have meant to add. I would love one of their lists to be found 😂

For the avoidance of doubt, I am not actually 7 but nearly 40. My DPs chose to find me endearing I think.

Slipslidinginthefray · 29/10/2023 10:00

I’m desperately hoping the vegetarian guest is getting cauliflower cheese as well so they can decline the Quorn ‘roast’.

Gorgeous list. Popping to Waitrose for Sunday lunch and a few things to make the place look nice.

NyanBinaryJohn · 29/10/2023 10:05

I love that it says Sparkly Water instead of Sparkling Water. Sparkly Grin

Cavalo Nero though. Whilst it really is Cavolo, can we just call it black kale instead of pretending it's some sort of fancy Italian vegetable?

LyricalGangsta · 29/10/2023 10:10

Sparkling water just makes it for me Grin
