It’s a full moon. Do you believe it makes people batshit?

My partner is convinced that a full moon makes me act differently.
What do you think? Do you or others around you act batty at this time of the month? If so, how?

Remember reading somewhere reliable years ago that crime is higher during full moons.

It’s been extensively debunked

Purplepinkfairy · 28/10/2023 14:20

Ask anyone working in a healthcare facility.......100 percent yes.

TitusMoan · 28/10/2023 14:20

GasPanic · 28/10/2023 12:22

Yep.

When the moon is full it is all there. When it is not full some of it is missing. Mass is less. Gravitational pull is less.

Another win for science.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think I love you 🤣

But many many people with experience working with children, working in healthcare settlings working with patients/residents with mh diagnosis their experience doesn’t point to no

just because something isn’t scientifically proved (and our why understand of mh conditions isn’t purely based on science) doesn’t mean it doesn’t occur

our understanding is expanding all the time. A good example of science not being able to prove why but we still had faith in its properties is the use of paracetamol, for years and years many of us were popping these pills it helped deal with pain relief but until very recently it was not fully understood why so could not be explained by science

sadforthem · 28/10/2023 14:23

A relative who is a doctor worked in A&E a few years back and said she definitely saw an influx of stranger people when there was a full moon.

Soubriquet · 28/10/2023 14:25

I remember when I went into labour with my first born on a full moon, and the midwife was complaining that all the rooms were full and it’s like this every full moon so yes I assume it does something

Every scientific study into this has found that the moon phases make no difference to people's moods and/or admissions to hospital so it has been scientifically proved... to be wrong.

A few stories and a load of confirmation bias does not equal proof.

DavesSpareDeckChair · 28/10/2023 14:32

Is it something to do with the increased light at night making people sleep deprived, or making them more active at night, etc, leading to more accidents and therefore A&E visits?

BlueEyedPeanut · 28/10/2023 14:46

We are very sensitive creatures. I can always tell when thunder and lightning is coming because I get a tight head/migraine beforehand. I assume because there is a change in the atmosphere. People with dementia are affected by the sun setting. Tides are controlled by the moon. Animals are affected by the seasons. Why wouldn't we be too.

Same here - I gave birth on a full moon weekend and it was chaos. All the many midwives who attended me over the period commented on it. Love the moon in any phase.

HRTQueen · 28/10/2023 14:49

Every single study

how many studies

again are people experiences to be ignored and those that are putting together the studies their questions have they no bias

I only know one clinician that thinks there is no link but he does believe in the theory of woman’s periods syncing this has also been debunked by scientists yet many have experienced this too (he hasn’t experienced periods syncing but observed this)

the science doesn’t prove it is so often used to shut down an argument/discussion or used for perceived intellectual superiority but the fact is science hasn’t proved so much of what is taken as being the truth and we never stop learning science has and will never stop evolving

Isabelle70 · 28/10/2023 14:57

Yes, I could always tell it was a full moon with my teenage DS as it did effect him.

piglet81 · 28/10/2023 15:02

My friend is an a&e nurse and says it’s always extra hectic there on a full moon…

happinessischocolate · 28/10/2023 15:03

When I went into labour 19 years ago the midwife commented that is was a very busy night because it was 9 months after Christmas and it was a full moon 😂😂

FizzyStream · 28/10/2023 15:04

My mum was a mental health nurse and still stands by the fact that the full moon changes behaviour.

My kids, particularly my ND 7yo, go nuts around the full moon.

BrutusMcDogface · 28/10/2023 15:05

Yes x 100!

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 28/10/2023 15:05

There’s a lunar eclipse tonight. I wonder if a full moon in eclipse makes people even more cray cray.

CrunchyCarrot · 28/10/2023 15:07

Yes. My cat also is affected and wants to be outside.

Yes, all I've read about.

Anecdotes are generally not considered to be scientific data. The studies into this have done things like compare hospital admissions during the differnt moon phases, that sort of thing. Things that are not subject to bias. Yes, one day they might find a link but not if there isn't one! They have found a link between THINKING the moon affects mood and it affecting mood...

pastypirate · 28/10/2023 15:10

Yes it does - social worker.

pastypirate · 28/10/2023 15:10

Mind you the moon doesn't make people do daft things at anything like the rate that lockdown for!

HRTQueen · 28/10/2023 15:12

And again it’s small amount of studies and again when working directly with people studies just based on numbers doesn’t give the full picture (ask anyone who works in healthcare how bloody frustrating this is) as there are so many variables

Goodornot · 28/10/2023 15:12

Maybe. The moons gravitational force controls the tides of this planet. Our bodies are mostly water. Who knows.

TryAgainWithFeeling · 28/10/2023 15:13

I used to be a police call handler. Can remember one night shift having my break and saying to a colleague “why is it so weird tonight?”. Looked out of the window and saw it was a full moon. Definitely everyone in that building would have told you full moon effects people. Enough to study? Probably not, you can’t really study things like “why does every call have a weird edge tonight”!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/10/2023 15:16

Work in hospitality. It does.
