AIBU to think that hospital consultants deciding that patients needing procedures should have to undergo them first, so they have an understanding of what patients experience when they have them?
I'm thinking here of things like colonoscopy / flexible sigmoidoscopy, nerve root injections... all of the stuff that doesn't involve major operations or things being removed.
I'm just pondering this evening, due to some of my experiences and wondered if others thought it might make those carrying out procedures a bit more understanding and mindful of their patients.
I know I may well be shot down for the practicalities of doing this, but as a general idea, what do other posters think?

I second what @PetsAreBetter has said, but from the other side. I made unconscious opinions about a psychological HCP, which I later learned were completely wrong. That woman had been through far more than I originally knew.

I'm also firm on the point that pain is subjective. The mosf horrific experience I had almost lead to my OH going for the doctor as he was causing me so much pain... Similar to you @vipersnest1 I couldn't scream in the moment, or use my voice. I guess my body language or facial expressions told my OH that I was in excruciating pain, I'm not sure.... But nonetheless, had my doctor gone through the same procedure, it wouldn't have changed one single thing about mine! The same thing would've happened. I still think your anger is being directed in the wrong place. I'm not entirely sure where it should be directed but I'm sure it's in the wrong direction at the moment. 💕

It’s perfectly possible to be kind and to feel empathy, without having had the same experience. Many health care professionals are kind and empathetic, some not so much. It’s just the way it is.

what am I reading absolutely not. What a waste of time and effort for people that do not need the procedure. It is like saying men should be forced to have wombs to carry children. Oh stop this sometimes this Platform is ridiculous.

@vipersnest1 I do kind of agree, when my one and only kidney decided to give up after too much contrast from another procedure I was told i would have to start dialysis! The A&e Dr was was a bit too cockky. He gave me an injection to numb the area then punctured my neck, I felt EVERYTHING! He began to insert the line, I was in so much pain I was crying my eyes out, the nurse told him I was in pain but the de shouted at her, I wasn't allowed anymore pain killer's, that was pure hell. The line wouldn't go in any further so he just yanked it all out and told me he would be back in a while to try again on the otherwise of my neck, iv never been so scared and iv been in and out of hospital all my life!! All I have to say to that Dr is 'Karma' is coming to pay you a visit at some point!

@Aqua20, I'm sorry you went through that.
I haven't even got round to mentioning my DC1 who went through their first kidney biopsy where the sample was taken from an area that wasn't anaesthetised....

Aww bless her, I do hope your daughter is OK now.

Iv since had life changing, donor organ surgery and living my best life! (Not a kidney transplant, luckily the dialysis helped and my kidney recovered).

I'm not sure this is uncommon with local anesthesia (that it's patchy). I've been stitched up with some areas not at all 'asleep'. It's one thing when it happens to us though. When it happens to our children, that's a whole other awful feeling.
