Are electric blankets/throws worth it

There are 6 of us . I hardly ever put the heating on . Think I put it on twice last winter . I only put it on when it's freezing cold and our bones are hurting. Because I can't afford it. We wear layers/blankets etc.

So I'm wondering if it's worth getting several heated blankets/,throws.?

Personally I love ours. Both were £45 from Asda (silent night ones). Have one for each sofa and DP uses one when cold for working from home. Totally worth it for us. DS love snuggling under it when it's a cold morning.

Twillow · 25/10/2023 22:29

Yes, you won't regret it.

OrigamiOwl · 25/10/2023 22:32

I really love my electric blanket, can't recommend one enough.

I use mine when WFH on the basis that it’s a lot cheaper to heat me than the whole (otherwise empty) house. Love it!

Barleymilk · 25/10/2023 22:34

The best thing about going to bed is my Dunelm electric blanket, probably one of my best ever buys.

WanderingAroundintheLark · 25/10/2023 22:35

Yep in one now. £10 if you are blue light at Lakeland and 15% off if you refer a friend

Longingforthesummer · 25/10/2023 22:41

So do you plug them into a plug socket? Do they use alot of electricty

Ponderingtosk · 25/10/2023 22:41

I spent a long time researching them on mumsnet this time last year, purchased a Dreamlamd one (From Lakeland) after reading lots of reviews for DC as their heating had packed up in their new home. They thought it was fabulous. If you want a particular colour get one soon as I ended up having to buy a more expensive one than I wanted as they were out of stock fairly early in the run up to Christmas.

I then bought another one earlier this year and both DH and I manage to share it. I did think if he was stuck for Xmas present for me I’d say get another one. Really think they are good value on running costs, DC thinks it is too.

Literal game changer and worth every penny.

I used to sit and freeze, it was miserable at times, now I’m toasty under the blanket

DupontsYellowDressingGown · 25/10/2023 22:46

I wouldn't be without my heated throw, it's incredible.

determinedtomakethiswork · 25/10/2023 22:47

Definitely definitely definitely! They are amazing.

StBrides · 25/10/2023 22:49

Yes and they cost a few pence per hour to run. Mine on my old tariff was 3p per hour. I've not worked out the new rate yet, but it won't be a shocking amount more.

cocksstrideintheevening · 25/10/2023 22:49

If
You're that cold and can't afford heating 💯

SM4713 · 25/10/2023 22:50

When renovating, we lived in a static caravan in the garden for over 2 yrs. Not a modern, double glazed or winter ready type! We'd often have ice INSIDE the van at night!

An electric blanket was bliss. We only put it on for an hour to take the chill off the bed and turn it off. On a very cold night, I'd leave mine on the lowest setting, but even in the freezing van, this was rarely needed. If you have 2 people in the bed, I recommend getting a duel control type. DH gets very hot, so only put his side on rarely. Ours was a type which looked like a fitted sheet and no wires or cords could be felt.

Bellabelloo · 25/10/2023 22:51

Heaven! I have my half on now. Husband is always hot, so never uses his side.

Octavia64 · 25/10/2023 22:51

Yes they are amazing.

PointlessAddiction · 25/10/2023 22:52

They are ace because you can use them in any room in The house and they are totally cosy. One of my favourite household items.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/10/2023 22:53

We have 4. On both sofas and both beds on the top. Throws, not electric blankets (which go on the bottom) - as they're too hot. I want heat over me I can throw off.

Couldn't manage without them.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/10/2023 22:53

I love my electric underblanket. It is just a cheap Silentnight one from Asda but it has three basic settings, has worked perfectly for 3 years, costs very little to run, and makes getting into bed in winter an absolute pleasure.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/10/2023 22:55

I've got an electric blanket on my bed and at the end of the day I just can't wait to get in it which means Im wanting to get in bed early although it never works out that way

socks1107 · 25/10/2023 22:55

I have a throw and an undersheet for the bed. I love them both

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/10/2023 22:56

I've got one that saw us through last winter. Was lovely on the sofa. Well worth it.

strawberriesarenot · 25/10/2023 22:58

I work from home, got one last winter. Can't heat the whole house just for me during the day. Very, very useful, except I get the cable tangled in my desk chair wheels when I forget.

TheFireflies · 25/10/2023 23:00

Genuinely one of my favourite possessions. Love it.
