Are electric blankets/throws worth it

There are 6 of us . I hardly ever put the heating on . Think I put it on twice last winter . I only put it on when it's freezing cold and our bones are hurting. Because I can't afford it. We wear layers/blankets etc.

So I'm wondering if it's worth getting several heated blankets/,throws.?

I have a cheapy one I bought online last year. I put it round me like a shawl whilst watching the TV. Within 20 minutes or so I'm turning the temp right down or off altogether. It's Brill.

LightSpeeds · 25/10/2023 23:07

Yes, they're in my list of top buys ever. I have several!

Homeshouses · 25/10/2023 23:16

In a word yes! I live under mine when I'm working from home, feel super cosy and don't need to put the heating on.

trader21c · 25/10/2023 23:23

I have two (Lakeland ones) and they’re brilliant

boobies1234 · 25/10/2023 23:36

Brought mine to use in my classroom during winter in covid when we had to have windows open. Loved it then and still love it now.

Crochetgirl67 · 25/10/2023 23:40

Yes, absolutely worth it. Use it on chilly days as i WFH full-time, and heating only goes for thirty minutes morning and night, so the electric throw has been a lifesaver

ChicagoBears · 25/10/2023 23:42

I got one from Lakeland and it’s been perfect as I pretty much exclusively WFH so it means I don’t have to heat the house during the day which has saved us so much money.

YourWinter · 25/10/2023 23:42

Yes you plug them in, no they don’t use much electricity. Absolutely brilliant! I have one on the sofa and one on my bed (over the duvet and under a fleece throw, because the dog and cat sleep with me).

The one on the bed is thinner material and the wires don’t seem to stay in place unless it’s lying flat. The thicker Dreamcatcher one on the sofa copes with being shifted about and wrapped over legs or pulled up to my chin, it’s gorgeous!

I love my electric underblanket. It is just a cheap Silentnight one from Asda but it has three basic settings, has worked perfectly for 3 years, costs very little to run, and makes getting into bed in winter an absolute pleasure.

I probably got the same one only bought from Argos. I opted for a single one. Usually DD warms her bed up first , then it goes into mine, DH borrows it sometimes for a bit e.g if not well .
It was money well spent!

Paradiseflycatcher · 25/10/2023 23:44

God I would marry my electric blanket if it was legal to do so, I love it so much

FirstFallopians · 25/10/2023 23:47

God yes, they’re amazing.

My parents got me one last year- fantastic. I was dragging it round the house with me all winter, like a toddler with a security blanket.

wavingfuriously · 25/10/2023 23:50

yes defo imo used one on the bed for years ..its brilliant!😀

TheHawkisHowling · 25/10/2023 23:51

My throw broke a month ago. It was a Dreamland one but I got A LOT of use out of it.

I couldn't manage without one so I immediately ordered another. It's genuinely bliss. I dread to think how much I'd be spending on heating without it.

I got a fluffy one this time and it's even more luxurious.

sipsqueak · 25/10/2023 23:52

You don't put the heating on in winter?

Then yes, buy the electric blankets.

wavingfuriously · 25/10/2023 23:52

😗wow! but good idea👌

wanttokickoffbutcant · 26/10/2023 00:13

I have a heated throw for WFH and it's great - heats me without having to heat the whole open plan space. Also got one for my daughter.

Soozikinzii · 26/10/2023 00:19

100% go for it . I sit wrapped in mine so I don't need the heating on . Hubby doesn't feel the cold .Must save us a fortune. We do put the heating on if we have visitors- obviously!

cadburyegg · 26/10/2023 00:22

I bought one in summer 2022 and absolutely love it! It definitely cuts down how much I turn the heating on, without it I would have turned it on today whilst wfh but just had the blanket round me instead. It automatically shuts off after 3 hours which is handy as sometimes I use it in bed. My kids like it too, especially 5yo who feels the cold in the mornings, he loves turning on the "warm up blanket" 🥰

Yesterdayyesterday · 26/10/2023 00:23

Yes

ShitChicken · 26/10/2023 08:05

We have electric blankets on the beds, they're amazing.

I am another reluctant house heater (the running joke is you have to be able to see your breath inside before Mammy will turn it on 😂)

I got everyone proper Oodies and leccy blankets from Argos. The Oodies re brilliant on their own. You can have all the doors and windows open and still be warm.

Considering getting a heated throw for in the front room too.

threebean · 26/10/2023 08:51

I have just bought a second one from Lakeland (dreamland) - worth every penny.

I also often warm my bed before I get in it - put blanket on lowest setting for 20 mins. Heaven.

Walkacrossthesand · 26/10/2023 09:56

I've had 2 over the years, they both failed at the electrical control point but that was after a great deal of teen (mis) handling, probably including pulling on the connection while adjusting the throw.
I wasn't going to get another one, but now I live alone and know how to look after things I might!
