I committing to buy when I make an offer on Vinted?

I've looked all over the app and sent them a message to try to clarify this but no luck yet.

I've made an offer on a coat but not heard anything back, it's been a week now. I want to get on with buying a coat but if the one I have made an offer on accepts, do I have to buy it?

If I have to then obviously I'll wait but if not then I'll go ahead and buy a different one. I know that vinted doesn't set a timeline for when they have to accept or decline.

Thank you

No, I accepted an offer and then they never paid so I didn’t send it. It was annoying but they’ve messed you about first!

CheapHouse · 23/10/2023 07:53

Thanks, I guess I could message them and say I no longer want the cost so I'm not messing them around.

You can decline the offer yourself just go to the message and cancel it

ChaoticCrumble · 23/10/2023 08:00

No commitment - some people seeing it as wasting their time but I think if everyone knows it’s not a commitment it’s fair game

Lancasterel · 23/10/2023 08:25

No commitment! And you’ve had a to wait a week too! Wouldn’t even cross my mind - just buy another one.

HeartandSeoul · 23/10/2023 08:34

As others have already said, you are not committed to buying once you have made an offer on Vinted. It’s very different to eBay, thankfully (who now automatically make the transaction if your offer is accepted).

I appreciate it’s annoying as a Vinted seller when the offer doesn’t progress to a sale, but I also know there are times where I’ve wanted to change my mind about an offer on eBay, but it’s too late. I much prefer Vinted’s system.

I'm new to vinted too op. I've tried to buy a child's coat. It won't offer delivery direct to my house. Is that standard for vinted?

CheapHouse · 23/10/2023 10:11

@randomusernam I can't see how to cancel it. I can only see how to delete the conversation which I'm not sure if that would actually undo the offer 🤔

Is there not a message direct option?

The seller sets up the delivery options they are happy to use, the buyer chooses which one they want. It's usually more expensive to have it delivered to your home, but the option should be there you might need to scroll

bettymoo212 · 23/10/2023 10:27

Just leave it and don’t worry about it. Even if they accept your offer you’re not obliged to buy it and the item will remain on sale for other people to purchase. I’ve had an offer accepted before but before I had time to actually buy it someone else did.

Yes. Unless the seller offers Royal Mail delivery options, I think all the others have to be collected (Evri, Yodel, InPost lockers etc).

DuploTrain · 23/10/2023 10:30

Just leave it, you don’t need to message.

If you’ve offered an amount, and they haven’t replied, then presumably they don’t want to sell it for that price. So you can’t buy it anyway (unless you paid full price).

You haven’t committed until you actually pay.

All the delivery companies except Inpost can deliver direct to your home, the first and cheapest option is always to get it delivered to a local locker, but if you scroll down the other delivery options are there.

There should be options.

The seller decides which companies they use (Evri, Yodel eg ). But you can decide if want the company to deliver to your house or to a parcel shop/locker.

Evri, Yodel and InPost do home delivery if you pay more for it.

I’ve the opposite problem, people making offers i accept and they don’t pay. If I accept another offer on the same item while I’m waiting on the money do I get blacklisted or negative feedback?

No. First come (whoever actually pays first to confirm the order), first serve

No, accept as many offers as you like!
A lot of people make offers on a few different items - they aren’t necessarily going to buy them all.

And they can’t give you feedback if they don’t buy it anyway.

Inpost deliver direct to your door
They use Royal Mail

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/10/2023 13:31

If you scroll the options there are pick up or home delivery
I always choose home delivery as I'm not near a pick up point usually costs approx 50p more

Thank you, pp's.

I’m new to Vinted and made an offer on a jacket which was accepted. I was waiting for the sale to process and a few hours later (busy) when I checked I saw that the item had been cancelled. Is this allowed as I thought that once an offer had been accepted that was it and the sale automatically went through. I’ve queried it and the person selling is saying that she sold it to someone else because I didn’t pay straight away. I suspect she was made a higher offer which she accepted and cancelled my offer. It’s put me off buying from them again.
can someone please let me know if this is acceptable practice.

johnson39 · 23/10/2024 11:09

You can cancel it no
Problem in the app, just put the reason in and vinted will refund you, I've had this a few times and it's not an issue at all.

I should add that when I went to buy by pressing the ‘buy now’ button it wouldn’t let me.

SeventyFiveNineteen · 23/10/2024 11:21

It wouldn’t let you buy it because someone had bought it in the meantime. A seller accepting an offer still doesn’t hold it for you - nothing is yours on Vinted until you’ve actually paid, offers or not.

There’s a Reserve function if you liaise with the seller but that’s separate, and if a seller does that for you then it gives you five days to pay. It has to be negotiated and set up separately and isn’t done automatically with offers. I’ve only used it when there’s been an issue sorting out postage options (FYI re some earlier posts on this thread - not all of a seller’s options will always show up for a buyer. If the courier service or Vinted’s gremlins think there’s an issue in your location accepting a seller’s offered postage service, it won’t show up for the buyer. It doesn’t always seem to make any sense but there you go).
