I committing to buy when I make an offer on Vinted?

I've looked all over the app and sent them a message to try to clarify this but no luck yet.

I've made an offer on a coat but not heard anything back, it's been a week now. I want to get on with buying a coat but if the one I have made an offer on accepts, do I have to buy it?

If I have to then obviously I'll wait but if not then I'll go ahead and buy a different one. I know that vinted doesn't set a timeline for when they have to accept or decline.

Thank you

@Awalkinthepark1 - on Vinted when they accept, it just means that they're happy for you to buy at that price but it doesn't reserve that item for you. You need to actually complete the checkout once they accept or else it's still available for sale and somebody else can buy it. Once another user purchases it, your offer will automatically be cancelled as the item is no longer available for you to buy.

A seller can accept several offers - whoever actually buys the product first will get it.

It wouldn’t let you buy it because someone had bought it in the meantime. A seller accepting an offer still doesn’t hold it for you - nothing is yours on Vinted until you’ve actually paid, offers or not.

There’s a Reserve function if you liaise with the seller but that’s separate, and if a seller does that for you then it gives you five days to pay. It has to be negotiated and set up separately and isn’t done automatically with offers. I’ve only used it when there’s been an issue sorting out postage options (FYI re some earlier posts on this thread - not all of a seller’s options will always show up for a buyer. If the courier service or Vinted’s gremlins think there’s an issue in your location accepting a seller’s offered postage service, it won’t show up for the buyer. It doesn’t always seem to make any sense but there you go).

Thank you so much. I’m much wiser now and won’t be in a hurry to buy from Vinted (or try to buy) again.

Honestly it works well when you're used to it - so I wouldn't give up. It means if you find two people with the same item you can make two offers without being committed and see which one comes back cheapest!
