What shall I do for 6-12 months sitting on the settee?

I have already decided to learn Spanish, but what else shall I do? All suggestions considered!

OP I wouldn't sign up for anything or commit my time to anything this is time for you to recuperate and be a bit selfish . Lots of books and box sets and podcasts and snooze away on the couch. You don't know how you will feel so take it as it comes. Best of luck with it all OP.

I agree. There's no shame in just relaxing into the time off and "achieving" very little. I was ill recently and just binge watched a load of box sets.

Do free trials of subscription TV + binge watch their good stuff, before unsubscribing and moving on to the next. Do a list of films to watch, including ones you liked as a kid + series like harry potter, star wars, twilight. For rough days.
Rock painting - decorate rocks with pictures or messages of hope + leave them for others to find. Outside a hospital is a great place to leave them.
Grow some seeds on a sunny windowsill. I've grown some chillis + peppers from seed this year. I bought a kit. Its been a great little passive hobby, they change everyday + still going, I harvested 8 chillis today!

I am writing a list of suggestions, some I like the sound of immediately, and some I'm not sure about so am listing them anyway, and will come back and think about them some more later. Some I cant do, like garden and bird things ( in a flat) but most of these I could certainly try.

A list of must see films you've never seen.

I recently saw She-Devil (1989) and loved it :)

birdwatching update!

Due to my regret I can't do this, living in a flat, my friend is going to setup a cctv camera on her birdfeeders and live stream it to me through facebook! I'm quite excited about this

That's lovely. If you like people watching you can get links on You Tube to various busy places around the world e.g. Las Vegas Strip.

About birdwatching...
You can get bird feeders that fit onto windows (suction cups etc) so if you are just a couple of floors up, they would be worth trying. Though if you're on the 43rd floor you probably wouldn't get many bird visitors! 🦜 🦅 🦜

Several towns have Peregrines that nest on cathedral towers etc, with webcams covering their nests, in the Springtime. I think Winchester and Derby are a couple. Also there are webcams covering osprey nests, the RSPB website might have links, so you can spend hours bird watching from a comfortable 'hide' on your settee.

That's a lovely thing for your friend to do. You have a lovely friend their cherish her.

I'm sorry to hear of your health issues @nextdoorneighbours
I would buy a journal or notebook & I would consider writing about things that are important to me.
I would make a list of 20-30 things that would go on my "happiness buffet." These are those small simple pleasures or people (or things), that can make you feel brighter on a tricky day. Eg, a phonecall/videocall to X - they always make me laugh, a 'bake at home' pain au chocolate & a nice coffee, listening to a podcast, attending a relaxed online bookclub that I can pick up or skip, according to how you feel. Once you have this list, you can then choose something off the list each day to do.
I would look at signing up to things that would give you options to occupy you at home: Kindle unlimited (access to books & magazines for a monthly subscription); Audible for audiobooks; Spotify for music & podcasts and any blogs/social media accounts that I find uplifting/inspirational. I might also consider looking for any online groups to support my mental wellbeing.

I hope the time soon passes for you @nextdoorneighbours and you recover quickly.
