Has anyone had a new boiler fitted recently?

I’ve just had a quote in and it’s massive. We’ve got a small 2 bed bungalow! Before I share the price as it may well be reasonable, if you’ve had a boiler installed recently, how much did you pay if you’re willing to share? Thanks.

I'm getting one installed next week. I'm in a two bed maisonette. I've been quoted £2,650. This includes moving the boiler into the loft. It will be a Worcester. I can't remember the exact spec but can find out if needed. I have about 5 radiators.

DinosApple · 19/10/2023 19:26

Approx £4k last January. That was a shock too!
New boiler, pump, converted system to a sealed system, two story, large house.
We got two quotes, one was slightly dearer than that and would have taken longer to get fitted.

Saucery · 19/10/2023 19:30

£2470, Worcester, fitted in May. Needed condensate pipe fitting and draining into ground, no other major pipe works needed to existing radiators, shower etc,

Just awaiting a quote

SpottyUnicorn · 19/10/2023 19:32

About £3k earlier this year. We live in a 4 bed house.

losingthe · 19/10/2023 19:33

With hive controller and installation came to £1500

losingthe · 19/10/2023 19:34

Sorry should have said we live in a 3 bed terraced house no other work needed doing. It's a 30kw boiler if that helps

Smurfmurf · 19/10/2023 19:41

Thanks. We’ve been quoted £6600 plus VAT. They want £2500 labour alone. I’m quite staggered by the quote. There is a water tank to be removed which we will do ourselves but I’m still shocked at the costs. I should have said we are on oil heating so I did anticipate the boiler being a bit more but not this much.

We had a like for like boiler fitted and it was about £3k. We kept the tanks in the loft and hot water cylinder though

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/10/2023 19:50

£4.5 k with hive and a new filter thing. We live in a 4 bedroom detached house.

It was a bit of an emergency as our very old one packed up and parts were not available. Every part the engineer touched seemed to disintegrate! We have home care with British Gas and they sorted everything very quickly including fitting within a couple of weeks and delivery, installation and removal of the old one all in one day. They are offering 4 years 0% interest atm which means that we only have to pay £80 something a month.

Lemsipper · 19/10/2023 19:50

Our was £4000 for a new boiler, also in a 2 bed bungalow. Including labour.

During the project we upgraded all of the radiators too, bringing this plumbing cost to a total of £7,000 including labour.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/10/2023 19:52

Is it a like for like replacement or are you getting extra radiators/new pipe work etc?

dementedpixie · 19/10/2023 19:53

@Smurfmurf get another couple of quotes before deciding who to go with

AmyJohnsonsplane · 19/10/2023 19:54

£3k for new electric boiler

lljkk · 19/10/2023 19:56

DS just paid £5800 to have a lot of old pipes taken out, back boiler taken out, new combi boiler put in. It's a high spec boiler but I think low spec one was about £4500, maybe? That was cheapest quote, next cheapest was about £1k more.

Smurfmurf · 19/10/2023 19:58

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/10/2023 19:52

Our current boiler has a water tank so we heat hot water using a timer. The new boiler will be combi. That’s the only change. It’s going on the same wall, same pipes and no changes to radiators etc internally

We converted from oil to gas 4 years ago, and it was something like £2500 and that included all the new pipework and 2 radiators that needed replacing - 2 storey, 4 bed detached.

@Smurfmurf I'd get someone else to quote. I know prices have gone up dramatically but that seems a lot. We got 3 quotes and picked the cheapest. They were all registered installers.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/10/2023 20:04

Get 3 quotes for comparison.
Make sure engineer is OFTEC registered.
It would be cheaper to go with the same. Combi isn't always better option. You will need extra pipework to change to a combi so price will depend on how easy/accessible those pipes will be to install.
(Dh oil boiler engineer so just asked him)

MrsKarlUrban · 19/10/2023 20:05

5 bed £2,500 (north west)

UsherBobble · 19/10/2023 21:43

4.7k here. Being fitted at the beginning of November. That's with two hive thermostats for a 4 bed house in Lincs.

GasPanic · 20/10/2023 11:39

Three things I would say

i) You are swapping system for combi. This means so rearragements in the way it is plumbed into the hot water distribution and may mean it needs a bigger oil feed. Because you are moving from one type to another there is more chance of issues, so some people may charge more to accommodate that.

ii) Oil is more expensive than gas and inflation is significant atm. Some people are more rapid in upping their prices to accommodate that.

iii) Now is a bad time to have any proactive work done. All the engineers are busy fixing problems people have when they switch their heating on for the first time. It tends to be quiet over the summer and build up rapidly in autumn/winter as everyone tries to switch their heating on and finds it not working. If engineers have a lot of work on then often they will price higher if they don't need the work. This is also a good reason (along with ii) ) why you should always get 3 quotes, because if someone is fully loaded up with work they may come up with ridiculous prices.

Silkiefloof · 20/10/2023 11:57

We had one done in Oct 21 hot water tank removed and disposed of new Worcester Bosch combi boiler put in same location new electric socket cost £5550 incl vat. Reduced energy bills by around £200 a month. Old boiler 30 years old.

Silkiefloof · 20/10/2023 11:59

Ours also has some fancy thermostat you do via phone or manually. And obviously old boiler taken and disposed of. We are family of 4. East. 13 year guarantee

Silkiefloof · 20/10/2023 12:05

We have thatched roof so went with company very careful re that rather than big search for cheapest.

3dogsandarabbit · 20/10/2023 12:39

£5700 for a Worcester/Bosch boiler, new hot water tank plus 6 new radiators and connected to Hive. With British Gas. 3 bed house.
