Vacuum cleaners - boring question I know

Legendairy · 14/10/2023 13:07

I just wondered if anyone has recommendations for a really good cordless vacuum cleaner that is good on hard floors and carpets, and to cope with pet hair. I don't really want to spend too much as the downstairs of the house is LVT so most hoovers pick up easy on that but we do have carpets upstairs that are quite old so take a decent hoover to get them looking ok. Our Miele pet hair vac has given up!!

If cordless no good then lightweighted corded recommendations would be much appreciated!

Thank you

How old was your Miele? Another Miele would be my recommendation, but not cordless. The blizzard cat and dog is the best on carpets I have found. I have a Dyson cordless too but it's a bit useless on carpet.

I have a dyson hand held. I don't have pets but I shed like an a burnese mountain dog.... and it's pretty effective

about 5/6 years old, it was really good but just won't pick anything up now. It is the C3 cat and dog one.

yeah between the fluffy dog, the wirey haired dog, 2 cats and my curly hair it needs something decent lol.

Titan hoover from Screwfix. It's around £40 and built for builders. There's nothing it can't handle. I've previously had shark and Dyson and they died due to my floofy dog.

I recommend this every time I see one of these threads but I'm not obsessed, honestly.

are they quite heavy? Annoyingly we have to store it upstairs due to space.

Cordless won't suck as well to get pet fluff out of carpets. I'd just buy another Miele (I have 2 because I owned one and then inherited one). I've had cheap ones and a Dyson but nothing works as well as the Miele.

I hate the Henry range which some people love - useless is too kind!

thanks, I will look at corded also. Miele have always been great for us in the past.

Not heavy. This is the only hoover that's lasted more than 6 months so I don't remember the others but I'd say it's average? This one has lasted years!

ReturnOfTheRainMac · 14/10/2023 15:26

But it is a whopping £50 now

PlipPlopChoo · 14/10/2023 15:54

My cordless Dyson was very good for about a year then good for the year after that, and finally shit after about 2 years of ownership.

PaminaMozart · 14/10/2023 16:05

I have this - it's fantastic, very light and takes up very little space as it folds up

My corded one was the same, worked amazingly for a few months but then was just average after that.

The fold up aspect definitely appeals to me! We have limited space as our only spare room is taken up by kids stuff so compact is good.

If your going to bin your meile I’d be tempted to pull it apart strip it down clean everything
lose of suction can only be
blocked filters or the fan that makes the suction has some of the blades missing or worn no a major job to replace it

TurnerP · 14/10/2023 18:36

Shark vacuums are the best brand imo

Shouldbehoovering · 14/10/2023 18:41

I have a miele c3 cat and dog (bought second hand) and it’s defo better than the top of the range cordless pet Dyson we also have…. But having the Dyson is so much more convenient. If I doing a serious clean I get the miele out but the Dyson is used daily. So for me, if you have the time and the energy I’d get another meile, but if you want a convenient everyday option then go for the Dyson.

although having said that, the Dyson comes with numerous attachments, which are great and very useful, but the design of the miele means I can get the same result without faffing changing bits over to clean under the bed etc. cobwebs are easier with the Dyson.

HappiestSleeping · 14/10/2023 19:08

Plus one for the Titan. I've had these for years. They have the added bonus of being wet too. And they have a long hose. I can do all the way up or down the stairs without having to carry the unit.

I have recently upgraded to an M class dust extractor too, but the Titan is still in regular use.

Will give it a go, maybe will borrow my parents one for a bit as they see on their hols to give me time to check out the old one

Another vote for Shark. We've always have Miele or Dyson, but we just have two Sharks now. Tempted by cordless, but as pp have said, they're just not up to it for homes with pets. Ours are well used and well maintained - every school hols, I take apart and clean in the bath. They're probably more expensive than you're looking for, but they often feature in Black Friday and Prime deals or on the Shark website. Customer service is good too.

Thanks, the corded shark ones have great reviews. I was just being lazy re cordless but it probably makes little difference really as the cords are really long.

I have a robot hoover - dog, 2 cats and mixed hard flooring and carpet downstairs. I run it once a day (after checking for any animal presents) and sometimes a second run in the kitchen area in the evening.

I have a shark for the weekly hoover - stairs etc. My sister swears by the Henry & my Mum has a lightweight g-tech which she loves.

CountingDownTheHours · 15/10/2023 10:17

I have a cordless Shark (plus 2 cats and a long haired daughter) and I love it. I have the pet version. I find it picks up pet hair fine (and it has a turbo setting I use on carpets). I do have 2 batteries though, so I can do the whole house, especially if I use the turbo setting on the carpets, as the one battery just wouldnt do it all.

I used to always swear by Dysons, but the last couple I got just werent up to it - I used to have to pick fluff off the carpet and manually put it in the vaccuum!
