Does anyone have a heated clothes airer

I am looking at a heated clothes airer. For drying clothes inside in the winter without using a tumble dryer. I hate having laundry hanging on clothes rails for a few days at a time waiting for them to dry. I would love to dry clothes more quickly. If I am at home and if it's dry out, the clothes go out on the line but it's not often I get my time aligned with good weather.

I am looking at a heated clothes airer. Are they good? I don't want anything too big.

I have the lakeland one as we don't have a tumble dryer. It has been a godsend for our family tbh, and warms the room up too.

Same, we have the Lakeland tower and it’s bloody amazing. No room for a tumble dryer and this is efficient and space saving. Wouldn’t be without it (family of 4 - sporty/outdoorsy so much mud and tonnes of laundry!).

I have one though not with the cover like the one in your picture. Sometimes I throw a sheet over it which I think has a similar effect.

It definitely dries things quicker than a non heated rack.

I do and I don't get the love at all. It just dries in lines and I have to constantly move stuff around. I use the regular airer in the bath as no one uses the bath here and the heated towel rail which is floor to ceiling.

FingerLickingGod · 12/10/2023 14:47

I have the Lakeland deluxe and it is absolutely fantastic. Well worth the money.

Paddingtonthebear · 12/10/2023 14:51

Yes, have had this John Lewis one for years. https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-3-tier-heated-indoor-clothes-airer/p2427279

The trick is not to hang things just over one rail as they only dry in one place. I generally fold t shirts etc in half and drape them several rails. You can also stack things on top of each other if they are light. I layer across all three shelves and then any socks and undies I tuck under the trails so that they are hanging down between the shelves, under the clothes. Warm air rises. Then big king size sheet over the whole thing, tucked in around the bottom. I put in a small room with the window open the slightly. The JL one is also handy as has a bit for shoes at the moment but this can also be used for thick socks. It’s not as good as a tumble dryer but we don’t have space for one of those.

Another vote for the Lakeland heated airer. I've had mine for about 4 years now and love it.

Mine lives in my home office. It fits neatly behind the door when I'm not using it. When it's switched on, I don't need the radiator to be turned up unless it's a VERY cold day.

I find it's great for my DS's t-shirts which have transfers on them. Even though the fabric itself could be tumble dried, the transfers would crack and peel off.

I've never experienced an issue with 'lines'. I remove the laundry as soon as it's dry. If I'm drying anything heavy or particularly damp because it cannot be spun dry, I lay it flat on the airer.

It's one of my most used purchases!

Use ours every day. It's great for drying jumpers flat and has a shoe dryer too.
From Dunelm.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 12/10/2023 15:07

Yes, brilliant. We bought ours when DD was a baby and it's still going strong a decade later.

Chickenpoxhelp · 12/10/2023 15:11

Yep, just one I spotted in Aldi, dries a load quickly, but even quicker if we put the dehumidifier on next to it.

GoldenKiwi · 12/10/2023 15:28

Do you already have a tumble dryer, OP? If so I would crunch some numbers and see what the difference in electricity cost is.

When I compared my tumble dryer (inexpensive Beko condenser) to a Lakeland heated airer, they worked out around the same. My tumble dryer cost a lot more per minute but is only on for an hour or so. When I had a heated airer (with a cover) I would have to leave it on overnight (12 hours) to get everything dry.

OldLabMummy · 12/10/2023 15:36

I have the Lakeland one too. It’s fine but I find using a standard airer with my dehumidifier on much more effective.

ADifferentPathAuDHD · 12/10/2023 16:14

We've had one, MIL has had one, and we've both been disappointed. Uneven drying for the line ones, takes ages. The one you've pictured is the same as pointing a hairdryer at a regular airer with a sheet thrown over. Literally the same thing so not a light energy user.

PrinceHaz · 12/10/2023 16:26

I have one from Dunelm that looks like the Lakeland one. I need to change the way I hang things as it just dries in thin lines.
Would it make a big difference if it had a cover? Dunelm doesn’t appear to sell a cover with it.

Kiitos · 12/10/2023 16:26

I was planning to get one but got a dehumidifier instead which is great for drying clothes, and useful to have anyway for anyone living in an old house!

I have a dehumidifier ordered. I wonder if I was to cover a clothes airer with a sheet and put the dehumidifier in under would that help?

Lakeland 3 tier. Had it about 15 years! It's fab.

You do need a cover for them, I find mine to be pretty pointless without the cover on (Lakeland one).

TheSkyRaisin · 12/10/2023 16:32

I find putting a sheet over helps, but doesn't trap the heat in the way a fitted cover does, unfortunately.
