Does anyone have a heated clothes airer

Squaretiles · 12/10/2023 14:15

I am looking at a heated clothes airer. For drying clothes inside in the winter without using a tumble dryer. I hate having laundry hanging on clothes rails for a few days at a time waiting for them to dry. I would love to dry clothes more quickly. If I am at home and if it's dry out, the clothes go out on the line but it's not often I get my time aligned with good weather.

I am looking at a heated clothes airer. Are they good? I don't want anything too big.

Does anyone have a heated clothes airer

I have the Lakeland one and feel little love for it.

I read a Which article the other day. If you do a lot of washing tumble drying is the most economical way of drying. Heated airers produce a lot of humidity and dehumidifiers were not rated as brilliant.

So im gping back to tumble drying. .

🤣 autocarrot win of the day!

Not only was the original correct comedy genius, but the response gave me vegetables! Love it.

LemonRedwood · 12/10/2023 16:43

Yep, Lakeland deluxe one and love it. Can fit about 4 loads of washing on it and can have it all dry much quicker than just the normal clothes horse (we don't have a tumble dryer at all).

Didn't bother with the cover, just use a bedsheet. But the casters are worth the extra tenner imo.

Edited for typos 🤦🏻‍♀️

We don't have space for a dryer and the Lakeland one has been amazing. You do need a cover, but with a cover it's amazingly efficient.

Do you already have a tumble dryer, OP? If so I would crunch some numbers and see what the difference in electricity cost is.

When I compared my tumble dryer (inexpensive Beko condenser) to a Lakeland heated airer, they worked out around the same. My tumble dryer cost a lot more per minute but is only on for an hour or so. When I had a heated airer (with a cover) I would have to leave it on overnight (12 hours) to get everything dry.

I agree with this! Half an hour of tumble drying isn’t actually very expensive. I read lots of threads lasts year of people using heated airer alongside dehumidifiers for 10-12 hours which I calculated would actually be more expensive.

Love it! 😂😂😂

Yes I don't tumble dry socks (they always shrink) or printed t shirts, certain other bits too. They just go on a regular airer. Because there isn't too much crammed onto it they are dry the morning after I've hung them up.

I didn't even notice carrot.

We have the Aldi ones. Absolutely fabulous. We do layer things rather than hanging them in the winter. You can of course always also use it in the usual way on a sunny day.

BusterGonad · 12/10/2023 16:56

I had the 'dry buddy' by JML (I think) it was amazing. You hang the clothes on hangers, put them on the arms of the dry buddy then zip up the cover. I used it in my outhouse so no condensation. It really was a god send. Minimal ironing too.

BusterGonad · 12/10/2023 16:57

Dri Buddi.

qwerty123454 · 12/10/2023 16:57

We have one and it's brilliant

Wanttobekind · 12/10/2023 16:58

I use a heated airer with a dehumidifier blowing onto it and I can get a wash dried in 6 hrs and the house doesn’t get damp, which is a real issue if you don’t use the dehumidifier as well.

ActDottie · 12/10/2023 17:08

We have the Lakeland one which is pricier but I think it’s the best one on the market. I got mine as a Christmas present!

We don’t have a tumble drier for environmental reasons and just general energy consumption.

Its works well for us and we do a lot of washing as a sporty house!

I have the lakeland one as we don't have a tumble dryer. It has been a godsend for our family tbh, and warms the room up too.

Another vote the the Lakeland !

I use that with a dehumidifier next to it / drys everything super quick

toomanyboxes · 12/10/2023 17:10

I have one but haven't used it much. I would do, but one of our cats has taken a dislike to the thing, and pees on it. Since I don't want either: A - the smell of gently warming cat pee or B - an electrocuted cat, it is now in storage!

I found this too. Not to mention avoiding damp.

I do still try to dry outside even in winter and look out for dry days. Sometimes it just reduces the time needed

GroanWoman · 12/10/2023 17:25

I have an el cheapo Aldi heated rack. I only use it to dry things flat, otherwise there's the previously mentioned lines issue.

I have a heat recirculating condenser drier though, which is pretty efficient.
OP, if you already have a tumble drier (or fumble tits Wink) then you could dry stuff for a little while before hanging on racks, maybe?

But the environmental reasons are negated if they use the same amount of electricity, right?

I can understand the convenience of a heated airer though, as you can fold it and shove it in a cupboard out of site.

GoldenKiwi · 12/10/2023 17:30

Sight, even 🥴

PurpleBugz · 12/10/2023 17:37

I have the drysoon one. It looks like the Lakeland one. It's brilliant. But you have to throw a sheet over it or as others have said it will dry in lines. You can get an overpriced cover for it but a sheet works just as well and also drys the sheet. I also stick my dehumidifier underneath it. I even dry duvets over the top of mine, shit them about every half hour and it's all dry in 2-3 hours. I would not be without it now.

Costs a lot in electric though. I keep forgetting to turn it off which is infuriating when you realise the next day

AmIAutumnalNow · 12/10/2023 18:16

Popping up on the weekly thread about heated airers to say I hate mine

Takes days to dry things and difficult to manoeuvre the clothes onto the airer

The autocorrect errors on this thread keep on giving. Fumble tits and shit your duvets every half hour 😂

Why would you keep an appliance that you hate? Sell it!
