what is the advantage of an airfrier over a microwave, for example. If you have one, why did you get one, and is it worth the space on the kitchen side? Thank you

100% rubbish, and we sent ours back.
It couldn't even make chips.

OhMyDaisies · 11/10/2023 17:25

I was dubious about mine but it's a god send. Great, easy and healthier chips. Freezer food cooks so much quicker and it heats up quicker so easier than doing it in the oven. I can do a whole roast chicken in mine and the skin is so crispy it comes out like rotisserie chicken. Was £60 on amazon.

ShutTheDoorBabe · 11/10/2023 17:29

Boil eggs or even poach them
Reheat pizzas
Potato wedges
Bacon

Angelofthenortheast · 11/10/2023 17:31

They're basically mini fan ovens. Produces the same effect as if you cooked in your normal fan oven on a baking tray with holes in (like those pizza baking trays).

It doesn't 'fry', you have to have oil to fry. But if you're regularly cooking for one it might be worth it as they're cheaper to run just because they're smaller

RandomMess · 11/10/2023 17:31

Love it.

We are a large family but end up cooking a few different evening meals etc. loads loads quicker than the main fan oven.

Very little you can't cook in it tbh.

Stroopwaffels · 11/10/2023 17:33

They are like a mini oven - the name "fryer" isn't right.

They cook faster and use less energy than a normal oven, because you are heating a shoebox sized space rather than a cupboard sized space.

We do everything in ours than you could in the oven - not just oven chips and nuggets, but whole joints of beef or a whole chicken, we've baked cakes/scones in it.

Startyabastard · 11/10/2023 17:33

I haven't got one, but there are different sizes, so take note of that.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2023 17:34

it's a small fan oven so completely different to a microwave.

we use ours all the time.

Soubriquet · 11/10/2023 17:34

We have no working oven right now. An air fryer has been a godsend. Whatever you cook in the oven, the air fryer can do the same and sometimes it’s a lot quicker

Whatsmyusername1235 · 11/10/2023 17:34

Love my air fryer

ReviewingTheSituation · 11/10/2023 17:36

We've had ours a week and so far have done:

toasted bagels (don't have a toaster, so saves putting the grill on)
Potato wedges (way better than the oven)
Fish fingers
Bang bang cauliflower (quicker and better than the oven)
Salmon fillets - easier than frying
Loaded nachos (just because I could!)
Jacket potatoes (way quicker than the oven)
Sausages (quicker than the oven)
Katsu chicken (would have fried before - this was quicker and healthier)
Baked avocado with eggs (wouldn't have made this before - was a quick easy lunch)

Daddylonglegs123 · 11/10/2023 17:36

They do the most fantastic proper chips but thats all we use ours for but personally think they take up a lot of room and are a buggar to clean.

wildwestpioneer · 11/10/2023 17:37

I bought one from Asda for £39 and it's brilliant. We bought it to see if we'd use one with the plan of buying a more expensive one if we liked it. We're sticking with the Asda one as I can't see that the ninja ones being 'that' much better.

Lizzieregina · 11/10/2023 17:37

Agree with the above and will add I’ve cooked a crown Turkey breast a few times and it was fabulous! Really juicy and done in about an hour.

I live in the US and another huge advantage for us is that they don’t make the house really hot in the summer, so you save on your AC bill.

MovedonfromMartin · 11/10/2023 17:48

I love mine, as do my kids because they can use it easily and don't have to put oven gloves on, like they do for the oven!
Bacon, sausages, Southern fried chicken, roast chicken, melting the cheese on top of anything, Yorkshire puddings, the list just goes on and on.
The only thing you have to be careful of is things with little bits on them....a crumble just flew around and landed outside my dish!

MehtotheChristmasrunup · 11/10/2023 17:53

I think they are 100% easier to clean than an oven! You’re just washing a non stuck pan and a non stick pan with holes. Neither gets super greasy like a baking tray.

I use mine everyday for things I would normally put in the oven or under the grill.

Really good for things like croissants which you wouldn’t want the whole oven on for / would burn under the grill / go soft in the microwave.

YaraRocks · 11/10/2023 17:53

We’ve pretty much stopped using our oven now as we do nearly everything in the air fryer. Anything you’d normally put in the oven you can use the aifryer for and then some! It’s also a lot quicker, mine doesn’t need to preheat and meat is always juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The kids make all sort of recipes that they get off TikTok and YouTube. My eldest did chicken fajitas the other day, it was amazing.

I love ours and replaced our cheapo test one as soon as it broke with a better one straight away. I have a friend that has two! 😂

ZeroFuches · 11/10/2023 17:53

@MovedonfromMartin do you mean frozen Yorkshire puds or can you fit a tray with batter in yours?

Soubriquet · 11/10/2023 17:55

I did fajitas in them the other day. Was so much quicker than the oven and they tasted delicious

YaraRocks · 11/10/2023 17:58

Oh yes to the pastries! I can have ‘fresh’ out of the oven pan au chocolate and an almond croissant whenever I want now. They’re also great for reheating left overs from meals out- any fried or grilled stuff comes out like it’s freshly made, even chips.

2023usernameNew · 11/10/2023 18:02

Check out #chefwithpalette (no affiliation, I just live her recipes)on instagram if you want to see what you can make

I’ve made many of her chicken recipes and they come out amazing.

BeansOnToast32 · 11/10/2023 18:03

Worth it just for cooking a whole chicken, takes around an hour and far juicer than when cooked in an oven.

BeansOnToast32 · 11/10/2023 18:05

I might have also used it a few times to revive my lukewarm McDonald's Blush

Soubriquet · 11/10/2023 18:06

BeansOnToast32 · 11/10/2023 18:05

Does that work?

@MovedonfromMartin do you mean frozen Yorkshire puds or can you fit a tray with batter in yours?

I cut up a silicone tray so that it would fit in the drawer
