If you regularly walk 10-12k steps each day, what shoes do you recommend?

Nephew works as a porter in a hospital and is constantly going through trainers!

Any recommendations for something that will last more then 3 months and is comfortable for him to be on his feet all day?

Adidas Ultraboost for walking/ running.

Not sure what the men's are like but I love my chunky soled leather Clark's for ward work. Word of warning though, they took some bloody breaking in! Crocs are very popular.

Sketchers. Hideous but v comfy and v hard-wearing ime.

I have medical professional friends who like Hoka shoes.

I wear ASICS but don’t do that much walking every day.

Skechers

burntoutnurse · 09/10/2023 19:42

Asics here too. Nurse. I do around 15k on shift and wear another pair of ASICS for teaching my 10-12k on my days off

I do 20-30k every day. I wear either black pumps at two pairs for a tenner at shoe zone when working indoors or new balance trainers/regatta boots when I’m outside.

How do you do so many steps every day?!

TeenLifeMum · 09/10/2023 19:55

Most where I work wear sketchers or Clarks.

ReturnOfTheRainMac · 09/10/2023 19:55

I do 10-15 and wear vans. They're a nice fit which I think is why they don't seem to hurt. I have Nike court boroughs and they hurt my toes.

Some people recommend stainless steel boots for long walks such as hiking to protect the feet but I'm not sure.

Rosebud21 · 09/10/2023 19:56

People recommending ASICS, are they true to size? 🙏

papaver · 09/10/2023 20:05

Walking shoes, I have found these are much harder wearing and more supportive than Sketchers. I went through a pair of those in a matter of months. I do have to go outside as well for my job though and the sketchers were not waterproof and when I asked at that time they didn't make any that were.

LuckyLuckyWoman · 09/10/2023 20:06

fitflop trainers, never looked for men's though

hotcandle · 09/10/2023 20:06

I never buy any other trainer that Asics. They are hands down the best walking shoe.

hotcandle · 09/10/2023 20:07

@rosebud1 yes!

minipie · 09/10/2023 20:10

I do 10-20k most days. I wear New Balance 574s, very comfy. I buy the kids ones which are cheaper but I think don’t last as long (but definitely longer than 3 months, more like a year plus).

I walk the school run and back, then I walk to work, I don’t have a sit down job, I walk to the shops every day to get dinner and than I walk home again. I’ll often go for a social walk or run in the evening or walk to town for an event or show. I’m only at 23.5k for today as a friend dropped my youngest back after school. But the bulk of daily comes from being at work, because I rarely sit down.

jamsandwich1 · 09/10/2023 20:13

New balance trainers - I walk a lot and they last forever

fishfingersandtoes · 09/10/2023 20:16

I do 10-15 a day usually and wear either Nike air trainers, well worn in docs or sandals from Clarke's.

OrigamiOwl · 09/10/2023 20:18

I swear by my sketchers boots for work - I do more than 10k a day in them

Haveyouseenthemuffinman · 09/10/2023 20:20

My Skechers trainers are nice but within three months at 10k a day most of the sole has lost its definition.

Yes

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 09/10/2023 20:23

I have Skechers but I only wear them in very limited circumstances, like maybe if I went to a shopping centre or somewhere. Mine can’t do long wear or outdoor wear on anything other than dry, flat, pavements. A sniff of rain or some wet grass and they’re out. The soles or mine aren’t sturdy enough for uneven ground, rocks stones. I can only wear them if I’m going out in the car as my route out from home is field, stony path, field, canal towpath, muddy wood. But maybe that suits for hospital portering?

Lecc · 09/10/2023 20:27

Skechers are super comfortable.
I'm not sure why they would be considered hideous.
I wear plain black slip- on ones and I would say they are completely innocuous!

TheChosenTwo · 09/10/2023 20:30

I wear whatever trainers are closest to hand when I’m going out the door!
usually huaraches/air force ones/adidas superstars, none especially marketed as walking trainers but it’s all I really wear day to day - I walk between 10-15K a day.
